What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Robocraft has been built with a dedicated community of Robocrafters from the very beginning. It's first release was in April 2013 and had no multiplayer and no combat. From that point and to now the game has grown to it's full MMO state and whilst we still call it a 'Live Alpha' you will find it a very polished and fully featured experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to remain in Early Access for at least the next 6 months after it's initial release on Steam. This way the Steam community can help to shape the game as the rest of the Robocraft community has so far.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“When Clan Battles, Tournaments, Megabots (players as bosses in Boss Battles vs. other users), plus integration of Steam Leaderboards and Steam Achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We call it 'Early Alpha' but we expect you to find it as polished and fully featured as most 'Beta' releases.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, Robocraft will always be Free-to-play and our prices won't change as a result of shifting from Early Access to a full release in future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Freejam (the developer of Robocraft) has community in it's blood. The work Freejam is a combination of 'Free' and 'Jam' where 'Free' shows our dedication to keeping Robocraft always Free and 'Jam' stands for 'Jamming'. We like to think of Robocraft as a game that has been built from the ground up with the community and 'Jamming' with the community is ingrained in everything we do.”

Tanks Are Rollin' Out - Hotfix #1

TARO HOTFIX #1

Tanks Are Rollin’ Out (TARO)’s first hotfix.

This hotfix does not require a sever restart, however it may require you to restart your client to obtain the update.

The following issues have been fixed:

- Lag / smoothing position of other Robots during latency, very jerky, going through ground, etc

- Issue above can also cause some bad physics reactions, such as being launched high in the sky on collision with another player

- Duplicate notifications in the battle Event Stream

- ‘Heroic’ spelt wrong in the Hero Bonus screen

- All Tesla Robots reporting as ‘Scouts’

- Wheels sliding / behaving significantly different to previously

- Fliers relying on loads of thrusters that are finely balanced seem to fly poorly after this update

- Fliers using lots of Aerofoils and Rudders are not flying the same now

Pros: Great concept, the ability to craft your own robot and battle other robots online is really fun. The graphics and particles are neat.

Cons: In regards to their security protocol, i uninstalled RC due to their EAC "sercurity", its anything but that. Its completely unsafe and invasive of your privacy. The program collects your online data and personal information ie. browser history, downloads. There has been numerous cases where users couldnt sign in after the EAC update as well. Honestly i think the developers should instead have a report system where users can report other players if they are using cheats or hacks.

Conclusion: RC is fun and the more items you unlock, the more you just want to keep on playing. The only suggestion i have is the eradication of EAC.

Completly addicting game. It's legos meets Twisted metal, by way of team fortress. For a free to play it has alot to play around with. Absolutly love this, the only limit here is your imagination.

Negitives

Game is broken and they are selling micro-transactions insta warning RIGHT NOW.

The third party anti cheat is like malware prevents and many people from even playing, the damned so called anti cheat logs your keystrokes takes random screenshots, and posts them online.

Game has several net connectivity issues. lack of connection stability and further pc complications after closing game.

Game is very grindy, you need to grind to get more parts.
The devs have forgotten the community and it is clear this game is just a cash grab.

THIS WOULD BE A GREAT GAME IF THE DEVS CLEANED UP THEIR ACT BUT LIKE ALWAYS THEY HAVE NO MONETARY INCENTIVE TO DO SO.
removed the malware and the micro transaction endorsing grind, and fixed the pc issues that keep on happening after your close the game.(ect. wireless internet stops working until restart but that's just my issue, others have had way worse)

Positive.

game play is solid, blowing up other bots is really satisfying.

Great team strat is part of the game.

Great stuff to put on your bot with more to come.

Amazing game. Original idea. Fun, exciting and creative.
So why dont i recommend the game?
Becuase of the EAC update.
Reason:
Ruins your experince playing, computer and is the worst way one can deal with hackers.
EAC had a purpose to stop hackers.
It failed HORRIBLY and is now not allowing fans to play their game.

A fantastic game for anyone with a creative mind. Build anything you want and throw it into the battlefield with about anything you could not expect to fight.

Maybe a giant darth vader with laser machine guns against a giant flying pirate ship? Yup it happened.

The game does however require a huge amount of grinding to unlock new types of blocks to build your robots with, which willl take a lot of time to acquire.

Pro:
- Do anything with anything! Very few limits
- Tons of different types of weapons & blocks to try out
- Active devs with tons of big updates

Con:
- Grind, grind and some more grind
- Balancing, getting hit and killed by one shot from the other side of the map is not very funny
- Expensive premium content (not by any means neccesary to play the game, but it is quite expensive anyway)

So, i have very much to tell about this, wonderful, fantastic, funny game :D. So, about the game. This a free-to-play game, its an MMO state and its still in ALPHA like wtf :D, i can't believe that they are still adding things to this game. This game has wonderful graphics, (almost any computer can run the game out). The awesome thing is, U CAN BUILD WHATEVER u want, yes, even ♥♥♥♥♥, :D.U can build: Tanks, bikes, planes, hovercrafts, plasma tanks, rail tanks, hovertanks, anything, u , can imagine, I have made like 30 tanks, cuz the possibilities (sorry for my english, im from Estonia c:). Ok, now, the things Robocraft needs, MORE MAPS FFS, only 2 types of maps? robocraft are you kidding me? it needs more beatiful and awesome worlds, like an moon map, where is lower gravity or smth, grassland, with water ETC, More maps please! <3
My older computer, it has wierd pink textures on the blocks, ONLY the blocks. The guns, pilot seat, radars, thrusters, wheelst etc don't have pink textures, only the blocks, can Robocraft fix it please? :) <3 <3 <3
As the game says, BUILD - DRIVE - FIGHT (BDF) i like to call it. you freaking create a laser shooting tank with friking hover blades and giant thrusters and friking T10 electroplates and friking giant wheels just full speed rushing at you, u can even build better xD, I really love this game because of the fun, tanks, jets, planes,HEALERS, yes, they can heal you and destroy enemies at the same time, i have played it for 20-30 hours already and im almost T5 :D... okay, i think some people have told you this, but, Please <3 increase the CPU limit :( its too small... and please also increase the RP u can gain completing levels, :c i get max 500 RP, its so f'ing low :PP Btw, about the maps, i might even help you Robocraft, but i cant like in person come to your Office, :D i live really far from you :PPPP but thats it i can say about robocraft :)

Half lego, half team deathmatch driving/flying combat.

Well executed, good use of the freemium model (pay for faster access to new toys, but it's not pay to win)

I got a lot of enjoyment out of just building lots of different weird robots.

It can get a bit grindy once you hit the higher levels, but I figure that's just trying to incentivise people to pay.

Extremely fun. I found this game 2 months ago and... well, you can see how many hours I played it.

For one, the game is really unique. Kind of like World of Tanks, but with a Space Engineers/ Starmade building style. I find it wonderful to duke it out until both teams are almost completely trashed, then coming out on top and winning the game.

Physics are a bit quirky, but that's ok. It definitely takes a while to figure out how to make flying vehicles correctly. You can do some crazy things with thrusters, such as gyro jets (look it up, it cray).

The dev team at Freejam seriously cares about this game. A ton. I've posted privately to the developers and they responded within about two days. They release new content into this game quite often and they (attempt) to balance it as much as possible. It seems like a daunting task to do though because of all the variables they have to deal with.

Pay to win? HELL NO! I got to tier 10 without paying a cent. Freejam gives out free premium every time they mess up with the servers and at almost every holiday. I love them for that. The only thing I would seriously recommend buying is garage slots because 3 just doesn't cut it.

All in all, it's a wonderful game to play, it's free, and just sooo cool. 10/10 would bang.

I would recommend this game but at the time being it's just not complete. Players are either having trouble launching the game, EAC software, or both. Above all it's an awesome game but it's not fun if you can't play it or wary of invasive software.

Sorry if I hurt anyones feelings.

Pros - Ability to use your imagination to create many different bots.

Cons - Terrible customer service to the degree where it doesn't exist. (which is why I cannot suggest this game to people I care about, and yes I love you too.)

The gameplay experience overall was fun, but this connected to the issues with logging into my account, I then emailed them about it, I kept getting the same automated reply. My last email to them I expressed that I enjoyed the game while I could, and I wished them good luck. In addition to the new issues with the privacy in connection with anti-cheat software, but meh, I suppose everything happens for a reason.

You have the right to take a risk, pray for the best, I had a good run of having no password / account issues, but they've lost my trust so I've moved on. I say, if you want, heck try the game out, maybe your overall experience will be better than mine, as mine was mainly soured by a vital issue, which was customer service, or lack there of.

(I may change this review if I am provided with a solution rather than an automated response, but even so I still may not play the game itself.)

Thanks for reading.

Don't bother with this game in it's current state. If the concept interests you, wait to see if it ever comes out of Alpha.

The game currently seems to be getting worse with each update:
There are rather blatant balance issues (an overwhelming majority of players will agree that SMGs have been overpowered for six months, and Railguns keep getting even worse after each patch). The fixes that are released to try to adress supposed balance problems are blunders at best, nerfing seemingly random types of vehicles and with extremely arbitrary implementations that result in things like only one type of gun mattering at all in boss fights. Old players also get a massive advantage in versus matches against new players, which will torment you during the entire grind to tier 10.

It's very often that an update completely breaks the game. Even after hotfixes, it's obvious that the developers are very inexperienced and lack any sort of quality control or testing, for example, accidentally moving the killfeed to cover the minimap (and the following admission from the responsible developer that nobody had actually even bothered to try the change in-game!), apparent lack of pre-constructed bots to test their changes (they claimed they didn't realize wing mechanic changes could affect bomber planes...), and serious netcode issues.

But what makes me worry about the future of this game the most is the fact that the developers seem to completely avoid player feedback. The subforum specifically dedicated to gameplay feedback is completely barren of developer insight, nearly all threads go without an official response and when there is one, it's never positive or willing to change anything about the game. The only topic that seems to bait the dev team out of hiding is monetization. You also might as well forget about cheater reports...

EDIT: Since this review, the developers have paid more attention to their forums and responded to feedback better. Unfortunately, this is somewhat of a mixed bag, as they've promised to fix some stuff but refused to touch some other important issues (such as the anti-gunbrella effect or the obvious SMG domination). Still wouldn't recommend the game until it comes out of alpha, sadly.
