"Long" Version:

Ah, "Coma Mortuary"... A game about death! Sounds interesting.

Ok so, I got this game for 50 cents or something and I really wanted to like it...
Unfortunately, this game is, as many people pointed out before me, a walking simulator. Yes, there is some very basic fun to be had but, in the end, this game managed to bore me to... DEATH (heh)!

Anyways, you play as a nameless guy who lost his girlfriend. He decides to commit suicide, but finds himself trapped in a bizarre world. Sounds interesting, right? Unfortunately, nothing really delivers. Everything starts off intriguing, but after a couple of areas, you realize what you are in for - a snooze-fest. The game doesn't really have an ending because it was meant to be a trilogy, so you're pretty much playing a third of a game.

Gameplay is trash. You can walk slowly or walk... Slower... I am serious. I pressed shift to run and the character walked even slower - the fastest walking speed is painfully tedious and, considering the game has a few parts where you need to backtrack, this was even more annoying. I get it, walking CAN build tension but in this case... Frustration ensued.
You can also interact with levers but it's all really easy and dumb. The "puzzles" require a certain lever sequence to be solved but you can't even press the wrong lever or anything, you just need to find the one that can be pulled and you're done.
There's a part towards the end that allows you to run - it comes out of nowhere and the soundtrack turns into a heavy metal cacophony that left me "WTF".

Voice acting is serviceable but the guy goes on and on about some nonsense about "the place" he is in. I mean, I'm all for a deep understanding of death and hidden meanings but this bordered on ridiculous. Also, there are a lot of parts where the character is quiet and the only thing you can hear is your footsteps - yet again, not scary , boring.

"Coma: Mortuary" looks really good. Even though the flashlight effect only works close to the character, the game world had an "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" feel to it and everything looked better than expected.

So yeah, a cheap, hour long game with pretty graphics, where nothing else works.

Do I recommend it? No. I'm sort of easily scared by games and I didn't even flinch once with this one.

Final Score: 3 out of 10.

I play and test many games on my Youtube/Twitch Channels and this was a game I have had on my list for a little while now. I gave it fair chance, but there were some game breaking problems for me. Overall I did enjoy the narrative and atmosphere the game had to offer, I have nothing against the style this game was going for.

My main issue with the game was the couple times it glitched out on me for no reason causing me to decide to not pursue the game to the end. The fact it had no jump function caused me to get caught it certain locations and with no way to get out I had the restart the game and lose progress. There also areas where the player could walk over raised surfaces but then from the opoosite side of the same little ledge I couldnt walk over it. Little things like that ended up making the game not fun to play.

Like I said though, I do like the idea of the game and the deep narrative as well as art design. If it wasnt for the problems I ran into trying to play it I would recommend it, but for the reasons I posted, I cannot recommend this game.

I don't want to spam links or anything, but I think this video I made will do a good job of showing why I do not recommend this game and why I was furious that I purchased it.

Ok went into this game with lots of hope that it would be a very atmospheric horror game and to some degree it is,but and its a "BIG BUT" this game is very short as a matter of fact PAINFULLY SO.Now let me say this that the game does do a good job with atmosphere and i can see where the developers are going to take the story and it looks like it will be really good but only when all three acts are out and can be played one after the other as my total play time will tell you,1.5 hours is neither here nor there and is very short even for a seperate episode.
Now i get to the pricing and at £7.99 its way overpriced for the ammount of game (more like an interactive story to be honest) that you will get,so therefore at the moment is overpriced (in my opinion-no replay value as once you have seen it all thats it).
Ok lets gets to the brass tacs so to speak, the graphics are nice and look really good (your torch offering the only source of light down in the caves and cattacombs that the game is set in),the gameplay is very slow and methodic and to be honest i think i spent upwards of between 20-30 minutes walking places (the game has a very slow walk function, whether intended or not it actually bumps up the playtime).I wont spoil it to much for those that are going to play but there are some nerve changling scenes and these are of the chase variety (no guns or weapons-so it does share that in common with AMNESIA but little all else). There is no true freedom in game and at times you just feel like you are along for the ride. The sound in game is top notch with some of the noises actually getting to you (screams and other noises are all quite nerve shredding at times).
Interaction in world is quite simple and only occurs to advance the story and at times you will wonder where to go but a little trial and error soon sorts this out in time.
So on the one hand i would like to reccommend it but with hand on heart cant as whats there is good but really doesnt warrant such a high price tag for what is actually a shorter experience than most movies, sad as like i have said i can see where they want to go its just whether enough people will buy such a short game to help them get the following episodes out so that we can finish the story and see what actually does and is going on.

(JUST TO ADD-SINCE PRICE DROP)

The game has since dropped to nearly half price so it is now better value for money (but all the above still applies).
This is not a very good sign though as people have paid the higher asking price and it hasent even been out for more than 8 days (not a very good sign of either the product or the developers faith in it)
Lets hope that this doesent become the norm as to be honest this reveiwer will just wait for his games instead of forking out money for a game to just drop less than 9 days later.
(all games drop eventually but not this quickly and lets just hope that the next episodes remain free for the people who bought this game early and that it remains so for everyone else as well)

If you want to hear a bored, off-brand Ron Swanson narrate generic dialogue about the afterlife, over VIDEO GAMES SLOWEST WALK CYCLE, then definitely check out Coma:Mortuary. If you're looking for a game where literally anything happens, maybe look elsewhere.

Oh, and if you do decide to check it out, stick around for the most comedically misplaced death metal music, while you walk slower than someone can crawl.
