Rise of Nations

Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy game that spans all history.
Start with a single city in the Ancient Age; gather resources; build an infrastructure; research technologies; construct Wonders of the World such as the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower; and expand your military might across the world, conquering hostile nations with bombers, battleships, and tanks—all over your lunch hour!

In Rise of Nations there are:
  • 18 Nations—each with special abilities and unique military units.
  • Over a hundred military units operating on the ground, sea, and air— from Hoplites to Frigates to Helicopters.

By far one of the most memorable games I have ever played in my lifetime. Don't let the hours fool you; I played this game and the add on from the disk way back when it was originally released.

I really enjoyed playing coop with friends and advancing through the ages while maintaining your tech and resources was the most fun I ever had. Granted this presents rush scenarios but with multiple maps, play styles and Steam Workshop, this game cannot be beat!

Highly recommended from me!

Age Of Empires and Civilization had a baby.
It's everything you could wish for in both franchises, tired of how aoeII has you going only through the medieval eras? Annoyed with waiting another turn in civ when you could just tell that f*cking worker to come here?
RoN is the logical extension of that, it goes beyond the tried and true modalities of standard rts fare and achieves something hardly any other rts or for that matter game has tried.

With the tech tree removed, the player doesn't have to wonder what logical pathways the authors followed when they had you go from wheel to the binocular to the atom bomb. What you've got here is streamlined: Pop cap bothering you? Military upgrade. Wanna expand? Civics. Commerce cap? Economy. Production too low? Science of course!
And then you advance to the next age.
Which does look substantially different. The architecture, the playstyle (in part), the units all look like they're really from the future compared to the loincloth wearing barbarians you started with.

There are races, and they do get bonuses, which feel more like personalized cheat codes. What else would you call instant worker spawn (china), extra city expansion (zulus), 3 free horse archers per stable (mongols), 2 extra max farms (egyptians), no borders (some indian tribe), double capital (persians) etc.?
WIth so many nations it's not hard to find one to suit your playstyle depending on what you feel in the morning.

Little caveat: The game is ideological, the two types of government have a clear bias, one "libertarian" (democracy/republic/capitalism) against one "authoritarian" (despotism/monarchy/socialism). But it's not as visibly overbearing as what civlization does, where the difference between being LITERALLY FASCIST NAZI HITLER and a snarky liberal late night talk show host is wether you pick assembly line or the scientific method.

What's more like age of empires is the warfare, it's the good old rock paper scissor we all love to hate: cavalry beats archer, archer beats infantry, infantry crushed beneath the treads of a tank, tank is nuked by the science civilization.
The difference between one age and nother is evident, especially in gameplay, if you don't catch up you're dead behind.
Castles and towers and barracks and siege workshops all work exactly like they did in aoe2, with the thing above as well as expanding and contracting borders.

Especially with the HD re-release, everythign is polished and overpolished, with one click you can get into multiplayer or stream on twitch or start a mod up.

Honestly I just wish to see a new version of this game made with New Units, new naitons, and genrally just some new contient. Rise of Nations 2 Just wasn't the same.
It'd be cool to beable to build Walls and Maybe add more single player options.

This game is basically the child of Age of Empires and Civilization.
The nations are all very unqiue, and I particularly like how they don't have just standard skins in late game. If a faction historically died out before a certain age, they design the units to fit how the creators thought the faction's troops would have looked.
This game has everything I loved about the Age of Empires series, and throws in Air combat and missiles. What's not to love?

This is a game from my youth that I always seem to come back to. I have always loved the strategy and advancement along the ages. It is a great game to play with your friends also. The mass of settings and variation in nations gives a lot of diversity. The graphics are a bit dated but that is sort of a given for its age. However I would always recommend this any strategy gamer no matter how old it may be.

The true followup to Age of Empires II, Rise of Nations incorporates some nifty complexities from empire-building games like Civilization while reducing the amount of micromanagement you need to succeed. If there's a complaint I can level against the game, it's that all the civilizations start feeling pretty samey once you reach the Modern Age and the chariots, Roman legions, and war elephants give way to tanks and howitzers. But even that complaint sort of disappears when you can drop a nuclear ICBM on a bunch of medieval peasants.

It's a good game!

Gioco veramente bello. Basta pensa ad Age Of Empire. Da provare assolutamente!

One of the greatest strategies ever developed. If you like games like Age of Empires or Empire Earth this is the one you don't want to miss. A game where you gather resources, research technologies, improve units, fight, command and conquer! This is a dream!. Rise of Nations comes with exciting campains where your goal is for instance to conquer 330 BC known world as Alexander the Great or conquest of the world during cold war for either CCCP or USA.

For instance, I've played Alexander's campain for a while and it was very entertraining because every location on the map had it's own special rules and ways to win, so it kept the game interesting and not repetitive. The game offers much more than classic beat your enemies modes such as Assassin (FFA with special rules), Musical Chairs (every few minutes player with the lowest score looses) or Sudden death. I loved classic version and this -extended- is even more entertaining.

Do I recommend this game? Well.

It was the 27th of Febuary 2016, it was saturday... The battle of the warring states (thats the map).
Korea 1 and Mongolia against Korea 2 and China
So the game started off slow asf with nobody doing anything for about 10 minutes until the Chinese decided to ♥♥♥♥ and pillage the Mongols because it definitly wasn't the other way round in history.. Anyways Korea 1 which is me decides to turtle whereas my ally Mongolia gets bum rushed by crazy Chinese infidels from Chinaaaaa! While my ally gets destroyed and loses a city which I both cannot remember or pronounce the name off I decide to build a lovely statue in memory of classical era Kim Jong Un or the correct name for it is the Colossus but I wanted it to be the supreme leader therefore it is the supreme leader. After I built this incredible statue, my ally was able to push the blasted Chinese back and was then able to capture their city back. Where is Korea 2 you maybe asking? Well they literally just sat there watching China do all the work whilst they listened to PSI's Gangnam Style because that song is the true meaning of peace within south Korea. Eventually Korea 2 and China decided to double team my ally with an endless wave of firework shooter people things, this made me react with my supreme leader and his army of merry men! We pushed them back again only to have lost half of our army... "Stupid Mongolians!" The game went on for a good half an hour with constant border disputes which made our match be like the Korean War with both sides at a stalemate. Both teams were both expanding and colonizing islands whilst everything was going on, this allowed us to get more dumplings for our soliders to fight in battle. As both sides progessed to the industrial era, me or Korea 1 and my ally Mongolia were able to take the Chinese city Chengdu which created a foothold for our armies to give grief to the enemies. With the Forbidden City built by Kim Jong Un on one of my islands I was able to research nuclear weapons whilst my ally worked on fortifying the frontline with a giant army with the enemy doing the same thing. Eventually I was able to build several silos which enabled me to Korea the s**t out of everyone because I could press the red button and unleash thermonuclear warfare on the Chinese cities of Shanghi and Beijing along with 2 other warheads blowing up their military facilities which were luckily all clumped together. This finally allowed both me and my ally to push forward and take their cities with no hassle at all. While all this was going on I decided to choose my newly appointed president of north Korea, Kim Jong Un who was also the Despot and King of Korea several hundreds ago to lead this epic advance into the heart of China. With China uttely F****d, Korea 2 was the only one left standing with a useless army and low resources. Eliminating them was quick due to the ultimate ability to utilize nuclear weapons. F**K YOU KOREA 2! YOU SUCK MA KOREAN BALLS!

SO! Would I recommend this game? Yeah I would! Its basically like Age of Empires only in my opinion its more in depth. The research tree is quite big and you are able to go from the stone age I think it is, all the way to the Information age allowing you to experience all styles of play. One age is full of swords, slings, bows, horses, crappy boats and pebble throwing trebuchet whereas the other age allows you to use rifles, bazookas, planes, helicopters, tanks, warships and everybodies personal favourite... Nukes! There's awider rang of unit types but there's a lot sooo if you get the game you can find out what they are!
I would definitly advice you to get this game due to the fact that its just generally awesome.
10/10 would Kim Jung Un again.
