About This Game

The second chapter in one of the most loved and respected Japanese shooting game series ever: The Tale of ALLTYNEX by Japanese indie developer SITER SKAIN. Carefully crafted play experiences, destructive fun, and absorbing gameplay have made the ALLTYNEX trilogy renowned in shmup / shooting game communities, both in Japan and overseas.

Story
Many years have passed since the ALLTYNEX incident and humanity’s resettlement of the Earth. The world’s nations have joined to form a unified economy and a global militaristic government. However, in opposition to the worldwide mass oppression, a resistance organization arose: Valkyness.
The decades long conflict between the Global Unified Army and Valkyness is suddenly interrupted when an alien force arrives seeking vengeance on humanity for atrocities inflicted upon their people.
Earth's war against the Raiwat leads to a surprising ending that reduces almost the entire planet to scorched earth, brings mankind to the verge of extinction and sows the seeds of the events to follow in KAMUI.

RefleX is a bullet hell shoot-em-up with the traditional oldschool graphics and inferface. Secondary attack activates a self-recharging shield which blocks or reflects enemy attacks. Everything here is excessive - the explosions, the starting firepower, the enemies. And while a lot of this has been done to death, there were actually quite a few moments in RefleX that made me say "Wow that's pretty cool." Admittedly the game didn't hold my interest for very long, but I think it's still one of the better titles in this genre.

Fairly decent shoot-em-up with an interesting shield mechanic (absorbs some shots while reflecting others) and scoring system. Like any shoot-em-up of this nature, it's very challenging, but still fun for a while. Recommend using a controller for this game.

FANTASTIC vertical shmup with an instrinsically satisfying gimmick: Your button that isn't "shoot" reflects projectiles and laser beams allowing you to focus on combat rather than power-up collection. Great graphics and mesmermizing Mode 7-esque sprite rotation sucks you in as you respond to manic bullet threats from all sides and all dimensions. I much prefer horizontal shmups but this one grips me like few shooters can. I can't really compare it to anything properly but it definitely brings me back to playing Truxton on the Mega Drive or 1942 in the arcade.

It is a good shmup. If you like shmups, you got it. Nothing else needs to be said really.

Short Answer: Yes, this game is amazing. Buy it now!

Long Answer: I picked up this game last year from Nyu Media's website, and I'm glad it finally made it to Steam. Yeah, I've got a few buddies I'm going to corrupt with some Alltynex goodness.

There's a great sense of design behind this game. From the way the levels flow into each other, to the progression of escalating boss fights, everything looks in place.

Even the unique bullet colors have consistent meanings; some can be absorbed, some can be reflected, and some can be shot down. Knowing when to shoot, when to reflect, and when to just let off the fire button and recharge, is the key to victory.

The scoring system comes naturally. Use the reflect feature well, and get big multipliers. It's great fun sending off a mass of reflected bullets and homing lasers, followed by some giant x64 kills. Or for those who just want to play to the end and enjoy the spectacle, continues are awarded on a regular basis to aid progress.
