Patch 2015-11-24

We have received requests to make it possible to not load the Mountains DLC, for a number of reasons.

Regardless if you want a calmer experience, if it's too difficult, or if you just want a temporary break from the new threats - we want Shelter 2 to be for everybody.

The patch includes:

  • Option to enable/disable the Mountains DLC threats (available in the gameplay options menu)

Happy hunting!

About This Game

The beauty of nature goes hand in hand with its unforgiving rawness. That is central in Shelter 2, and one of the reasons we chose to make a game about a Lynx. They are in middle of the food chain, and there are far more vicious things out on the cold tundra.

The game follows the life of a mother lynx, starting as a pregnant animal, giving birth and continuing in to a journey of parenthood where nurturing her cubs is paramount for survival. Shelter 2 includes more elaborate gameplay features than its predecessor, such as stamina, different types of movements, jumps and a variety of prey to kill. Besides hunting there are several maternal and hunting features, such as calling the cubs closer, smell for prey, making sure they drink water from rivers and lifting and carrying your cubs from harm’s way.

A vast wilderness awaits

Environments in Shelter 2 are much bigger than its predecessor and allow a lot more freedom than ever before, allowing players to find favorite spots to return to. This time weather and seasons change, harsh winters and bloomy summers awaits you!
The music is once again presented by Retro Family, awarded for their work on the Pid Soundtrack, and the visuals have been reinvented by adding dense atmosphere and lighting to the patterned graphical art style.

Had this game on my radar for a while now. Considering it was on sale I thought now would be a good time to buy it.
Sadly, the game is lackluster and way too simple.

Pros:
  • Absolutely beautiful art style.
  • You can start a family as one of your grown kits.
  • Fitting music. Though sometimes it would abruptly stop in a very weird way.
  • For those who like collectibles, there are plenty.
Cons:
  • Camera can be annoying.
  • Gets boring quickly as the only thing to do is feed your kits.
  • To hunt animals all you do is smash your face into them.
  • Can't do anything to defend your family except run/hide.
  • The game gives you no reason to leave the starting area other than collectibles. With plenty of rabbits there, and from what I've seen, no predators, it's the perfect spot.

In other reviews people say they're very attached to their kits, but I don't know how. I'm a very devout cat lover, but the cats in game don't have any emotions or personality. You can't interact with them in any way except feeding. I would've loved to see a way to play with them, teach them to hunt, fight, etc. but there is none of that. You'd be better off playing Wolf's Quest.

I liked this game, and am excited to get the dlc. Definately worth the money, Each generation a different experience. You get good at hunting, and explore more. Not a one run game at all. I recommend at least three play throughs!

This game is amazing, it has a beautiful art style, an pleasing soundtrack, and it has a bit of story. But if you are easily depressed then this game can trigger that pretty quick if you dont take care of your kit's. Good game, but can be deppressing at times.

Love this game with all my heart.

I am very much a cat person, and as a result I ended up getting incredibly attatched to all my lynx babies.
-First time playing, lost 1 to the wolves, then 2 more started starving and I couldn't find them in the snow. Had to stop playing because I was bawling like a baby at my dying pixel-kitties.
-Subsequent playthoughs; got the hang of hunting and eventually raised all 4 to adulthood successfully- bawled like a baby again at my pixel-kitties because I was so pleased.

I have never been so attatched and emotionally invested in a game before...

10/10- would break my heart over this again and again.

Now, can we have a 3rd one please?
