A major update to Over 9000 Zombies! is now available marking its transition from Early Access to full release. But do not worry yourselves fellow survivors, this is not the end of development. The Zombie horde will continue to evolve and grow stronger over time.

You may also encounter several new leader’s of the Zombie horde and your struggles against them will take place on new battlefields. Your battle interface has been improved upon to help aid you in your survival. Various random mutations that caused survivors issues in the past have been eradicated and survivors will find the battlefield to be more stable and easier to navigate.

We welcome all players to leave feedback about the new update in the game’s discussion forum. Also, since we are still moving forward with updates, we invite you to leave any suggestions or features you would like to see in future patches.

Over 9000 Zombies! comes with an easy to use map editor that gives you the tools you need for making new killing arenas to share with the world. Make them funny, make them fiendishly hard, it’s all in your hands.

About This Game

Over 9000 Zombies! is top-down arcade action blown out of all reasonable proportions. An endless horde of zombies is coming your way, how long can you survive?

So you might have already sussed out that there’s a lot of undead after you. To stay alive you’re going to need this arsenal of over 20 weapons. Some you might recognize but others are very experimental. Whether you want to shoot, burn, blow up or microwave the zombies there’ll be a weapon for you.

Keeping the barrel of a gun between you and the zombies is a good start but you’ll want to stay out of the open when things get especially crazy. Scavenge scrap metal to build barricades for protection and deploy automated turrets for extra crowd control.

You don’t have to go it alone. Bring both trusted friends and talented strangers into your fold and team up against the hordes with 2 player online co-op and 4 player local co-op.

This level of slaughter needs some decent beats. Using cutting edge research techniques we have been able to isolate the optimum audio for efficient undead butchery. Scratch that trigger-finger itch to the sound of intense electro-rock from Clearside.

The zombies will never stop. They’re only going to get faster and nastier. Keep your eyes peeled for flaming zombies, highly poisonous zombies, zombie animals, giant eyeballs and even the risen remains of political figures. You’re going to die out there so make sure you leave with a bang.

Create your own unique levels to test your mettle and the power of the zombie hordes. Upload them to the Steam Workshop and show the world your creations.

A solid top down shooter that's better for local co-op. This first impressions was done with a key obtained from evolve.pr.

Being able to build turrets and upgrade your weapons is nice, and the sheer amounts of stuff on screen was pretty good, but the question will be if there's enough here to keep the interest of people over time. Netcode in my experience is shaky, within house it was problematic.

Get if you are looking for a local coop with your buddies. Otherwise, wait until a sale.

It was a lot better back when it was one big map, you had to find a decent building to build in and it showed the potential for some good scavenging features in the future but.... I hadn't played in a while and decided to kill some time(and zombies) and the game I came back to was more like a lame little flash game.

I'd still recommend it, but definitely not for the $10 price. The massive shift in gameplay style turned this game from a $10 indie with a lot of potential to a $2 arcade game with no room for improvement.

Pre-Release Review
Over 9000 Zombies! is a top-down zombie shooter which is played in a horde-mode style game. The zombie genre has had every last bit of originality drained from it in recent years yet this game somehow feels fresh and is incredibly fun to play. As you kill zombies you unlock new guns and scrap which can be used to purchase turrets and other defences. I haven't had a chance to play much so this is more of a first impressions review but I'm definitely going to play more

+Simple art style which suits the game well
+Nice retro-style visual effects
+Loads of unlockable guns
+Plenty of different turret types to build
+Turrets are very useful when playing singleplayer
+Frequent item drops
+Enemies get different buffs everytime you complete a wave making each wave unique in some way
+You get to level up a skill each wave to make yourself slightly more powerful
+Different types of zombies
+Workshop support for custom maps
+Easy to get into
+With each passing wave the game gets significantly more difficult
+Simple control scheme which is easy to use (KB+M)

-The game only comes with one map (it is only in early access) that is pretty small
-Turrets get destroyed very quickly in later waves
-When a wave begins you are completely surrounded by zombies and this is when you are most at risk from getting damaged

A really fun little zombie game with plenty of unlockables, good workshop support and all in all a great time killer.

A relatively fun game with a simple concept: survive as long as possible. Using the same weapons unlocks new, similar ones along that tech tree and leveling up will allow you to choose an increase in one of four attributes. There's a map editor, local co-op, and multiplayer in addition to single player. The graphics are a bit, well, lacking and could have admittedly been a bit better for the $10 price tag. There's also a plethora of different turrets and walls, though the map sizes are relatively small (like in Smash TV). Along those lines, I'd probably pay $5 for this game and not $10, though everyone's mileage varies on what they're willing to spend on something in particular. If you enjoy games like "Nation Red", then you may enjoy this one.

A very fun and addicting top-down zombie shooter. This game is fantastic in Co-op. Many different weapons to use, different zombie types, different turrents to place to defend your position, and more to come since it's in Early Access. Also the soundtrack is freaking epic. I have high hopes that this game will turn out even better with more content and maybe more modes to play? Either way, very awesome game that I reccomend to any zombie shooter gamer. Worth the price in my opinion.

Edit: Also the Developer(s) are very kind and helpful for any questions I had and responded to me directly with more help than I expected! :) Thank you again Loren!

This game is really intense and good. It's a lot of fun and I can only see it getting better. At the time of this review I have not played with any friends but I can only imagine that it makes the experience better.

Good retro graphics, a nice soundtrack, retro sound effects make this game a must have for the retro gamer. If you like top down shooters then pick this up, you won't regret it.

At the time of this review as far as I can tell there is only one map, which is kinda bummer, but devs plan on adding more plus they plan on adding steamworks support so players can make their own maps.

I survived for three days and just couldn't take it anymore. I felt no impending doom or desire to keep shooting the zombies down. It's simply too repetitive, boring, and uninspiring.

This game is stale - music's good, but graphic tiles look like if taken from some free library and/or drawn in paintshop on windows 3.11. Sound is as cheap as graphics and gets annoying too damn fast. Weapons don't feel powerful, progression system is primitive, gameplay is slow and repetitive.
Sadly not much had changed from early access, not recommended.

Early Access Review
Early Access games come in all manner of different states. I would say this one is in a perfect place to be entering Early Access. The game itself is already playable and fun, but I can still see where they can add even more in the future. The co-op works flawlessly, you don't have to jump through any hoops to play with a friend. I ran into very few bugs while playing and none of them were game breaking.

Over 9000 Zombies! is a Tower Defense like game, where the thing you're defending, in essence is yourself. You can place turrets, of which there are currently 6 to choose from, you can place a block barricade, and there are roughly 20 weapons to collect. Zombies drop health, grenades, scrap (with which to build), and on the rare occasion, new weapons.

I played only co-op, but I can see it being a little difficult for someone in single player. After one play through, we found ourselves searching for a more defensible building, as well as working out strategies to survive specific zombies on later, tougher days.

I look forward to future updates. I hope to see more turret types, more maps, a map editor, perhaps more zombie types and more zombie 'bosses'.

Overall, I highly recommend it!

Early Access Review
It's not bad if you're playing to reach Day 10, after that it just becomes an (easy) grind-fest. I made it to day 27 (12th place on the leaderboards for kicks) before I gave up. Once you get a powerful enough weapon, you can just stand there and hold the mouse button while using your other hand to feed your mouth with chips.

I can see this game getting a lot better, but:

Nays (as of now):
- I found very little use for most of the weapons, there's a lot, but you'll probably never use them.
- Items that give you temporary stat bonuses don't last long enough/aren't very interesting, I couldn't justify picking them up.
- Block placement is fun, but I never seemed to be able to collect enough resources to build more than 8 blocks at a time.
- Music starts to get annoying, it's not a bad track, I just wish there was more than NUNUNUNUneeeNUNUeeeeeNUNU...
- You can't be bothered to look at the UI early on, it's very small and should be more noticeable.
- The cursor/crosshair is also difficult to spot, I never know where it is after blinking.

- The A.I works very well, I can see there is some AGGRO involved.
- Bullets don't simply go straight, there's some realism.
- Hit testing is spot on for walls/structures.
- Various mobs, the game is not limited to zombies.
- I don't regret paying $4 for this.

Basically, this is Bird's Eye Serious Sam, but the weapons will eventually need some major balancing.

- Map Maker, especially for a tile-based game like this.
- More items: fences, mines, det-bombs, bla bla.
- Bosses, bosses that don't like it when I spend that past 3 hours camping in my 7x7 structure.
- Leveling and more stats... Make this game better than Diablo 3!
