Like Greek Mythology? All those crazy creatures from those stories, you can summon. Like mulitple heads? Get a Hydra that grows new heads after battling. Like stones? Medusa turns your enemies into statues. Hercules your man? He's fighting your battles. Get the game if this sounds like something you'd like.

Age of Mythology is the classic, mythology based spinoff of Age of Empires, and boy was it fun. But does Age of Mythology Extended Edition live up to the original? In many ways, very much so, though the price tag might dissaude you unless you're a huge fan, (like I am).

If you've played Age of Mythology before, you know exactly how this game works. If not, here a basic gist of it. It plays much like Age of Empires 2; you have to collect resources, specifically food, wood and gold, in order to fund your armies, economies, technologies and advancement. sounds basic enough, and all the races work similarly in regards to these resources. The difference comes in the fourth resource: Favour. Favour is generated differently depending on which race you are playing. For instance, the greeks generate favour through worship, the egyptians through building monuments, the norse through heroes and fighting, and the atlanteans through having more settlements.

Favour is the special resource, which ties into the major mechanic of Age of Mythology: Gods and God Powers. There are 12 major gods, 3 for each of the races, and these determine starting bonuses for you when you start the game. the gods also have minor gods to choose each time you advance an age, with a total of 36 minor gods, each offering different bonuses and god powers. For instance Hades gives you the Sentinel God Power, that creates stone sentinels to watch over your town centre, but in the second age, you can choose Athena, who allows you to train minotaurs and the Restoration God power which can heal your units.

Aside from the new favour mechanic, for the major part it plays like the age of empires games. Build Army, upgrade, and take care of your population cap and economy. Rock paper scissors, for basic units, (cavalry beats archers who beat infantry), but add heroes and myth units which can turn the tide of battle. Both the singleplayer and multiplayer are fun, and with the new release, there is a rebirth in the multiplayer, though not as big as the heyday of AoM.

As being essentially a remake (a la Age of Empires 2 HD Edition), AoM:EE is actually fairly bug free, and while it definitely shows its age, the added subtle lighting effects, water and shadows do help to make look better. It is definitely very playable, and for fans of the original, it shouldn't even be a bother.

The campaign is just as memeroable as always, a hunt through Greece, Egypt, Scandinavia and finally Atlantis in order to stop a power hungry cyclops from releasing Kronos, King of the Titans; followed by A New Atlantis, set a number of years later, where you are tricked into releasing the Titans, and must stop them at all costs .

Overall, Age of Mythology: Extended Editon is fun, unique and offers up plenty of value, with 50 singleplayer missions, skrimishes, and now revived multiplayer, though for those who still have a copy of Age of Mythology and The Titans expansion, it might not add a great deal. Definitely recommend everyone else (who's a fan of older RTSes).

I've played AoM since I was a kid and when the offer came up on this game i simply could not pass it up. This was part of my childhood lol That being said its a fun game, loses its pizzazz if your not really playing with friends and i could imagine most of the people who play it on a regular basis are immortal gods at it now (like Starcraft) but if you can get past all that you can definitly burn a few hours into it if you like simplictic mythical strategy games :) Contra Says: 7/10

If you still own your original copy of AOM I would reccomend not getting this. Unlike AOE2 HD this plays like a real botch job. Nowhere near the amount of care has been taken with this as was with AOE2 in making it "better". This is just altering a few things and charging for it.

Excellent job of destroying a wonderful game. If you want to only play the campaign with mediocre textures that were for the most part allready available this is you perfect waste of money. The multiplayer is available and the company that brought this to steam (sky box) is half ♥♥♥♥♥ and just cash grabs by poorly integrating old clasics on steam. Don't waste your money and just download the original and play on voobly.

It is a great game but the remastered edition lags a lot, even in LAN multiplayer games.
I do not recommend AoM until a patch is released which will fix most of the lag issues.

When I saw the AoM:Extended Edition, it seemed like the perfect solution. We've played the game for years, but three CD's later, it was time to get another one. And I was tired of buying plastic media to play a game I paid for.

Steam's digital download seemed perfect. And then we actually tried playing the game.

Ensemble Studios should be (and probably is) ashamed to be associated with tis product. The refresh rate is pretty near 5 frames per second, despite my machine running brand new high-detail 3D games at 60 fps. The multiplayer data connection is so slow it's unplayable.

This was a complete and utter waste of money. Can't un-recommend this game enough. Just don't buy it.

I would recommend this game as it is immensly fun, but seeing as how alot of ppl are having trouble (including me) starting the game up i would say just dont waste your money on this game. I have had it for about 2 days now and havent gotten a single second of play time, even let it load for 7 hours with nothing to show. All in all its a great game but it probably wont work, so i would recommend just buying the cd's or torrenting the old version, save your money.

Age of Mythology is pretty fun. If you like to kill dudes with hydras and mountain giants (or kill hydras and mountain giants with dudes) then this is right up your alley. The story mode has some witty dialoag, too!

This is the game that sparked my love for both RTS and Greek mythology. I must have completed all the campaigns at least 5 times each. It is probably my most played game of all time, and had a profound impact on my life. This is a great HD remake too, with shinier graphics, dynamic lighting, mod support etc. Definitely worth buying.

The game is good. The old game then. I still have a copy of the original and it works fine on windows 8. So what does the New HD versions brings you for 27€? The answer is nothing. The new Improved water grapsichs are not special and only offers more lag. The day and night options also offers the same thing. none, it only make things darker or lighter. Sometimes the game even crashs or freezes. Its less stable then the original one. Oh and I forgot, you get 63 Steam Achievements! wonderfull, great! Completly useless.

So to make a long story short. If you still have the original game or are able to buy the old game for less money, doint but this one. Buy it only if it is 75% off (6,99€)

One of the worst gaming experiences I've had when trying to play online. Got heavy crazy lags and there are no way to fix it by changing the options.
In single player mod the game works just fine, but it´s nothing better with it then with the old AoM games. Actually they worked better in every way.
And the new graphics dosen't make the game look better either, it´s worse than the old graphics.
A complete failure.

Fix the online features, so you can play. That's the whole reason people bought the game. I had the old game and could have played the single player without buying this remake.

DON'T BUY IT, you will just be disapointed!

Good old fashion strategy game with a sprinkle of fantasy.

As all games in the age of series, the campain is really easy if you played any strategy game but still fun.

4 different factions (vikings, egyptians, greek and atlanteans) each with different perks. For instance, with my favorite faction, the norse break from the standard rts as the basic fighters for the norse are also the one building the structures.

The great feature of this game is to select the faction then in game pick the gods from your pantheon you want to follow, each on having different traits. This way you can select which gameplay to follow by selecting an upgrade path every ages (or level 1-4) that will give you specific troops and powers.

AI games are good to try the combinations and will keep you playing for many hours. The multiplayer is definitely the added value there.

Ah, Age of Mythology. A wonderful game I have many fun memories with. Playing with friends in person before the Multiplayer was added, just bombing nations with Bawk Bawk Boom chickens was pleasant, but, however, the exploits never define the game. The game itself is wonderful, tending to be more difficult than AOE 2 or 3, but also giving you the immense power of the gods. You can summon Titans to destroy bases, throw earthquakes and meteors, build massive armies of monsters, lead by Heroes to defend them. The enormity of the game is insane, and allows for tons of fun. Highly reccomended for anyone who likes RTS' or Aoe in particular. 9/10

A classic. It was one of the best of its time and when comparing it with its contemporaries and successors, it has held up as one of the best of all time. Very strong single player with great campaign modes and generated map games. All the cultures have different playstyles which allows for dynamic gameplay. They even support online play! The only downside to this game is that the online culture is much different than the ESO days, with a lot less creative custom scenarios being present. So whether you're looking to get into RTS games, relive a classic, or expand your library, this game is for you! If you're looking to play classic ESO era scenarios like Sims, Art Contest, Nottud maps, or any of the orginal escapes, then this will be lack luster for you. That said, if you still have the scenario files and are willing to share them with the community, you never know what will get popular again. There's plenty of us out there that would love to play them.

If you buy it, you really only buy it for the single player. ANY online play(lan or no) lags sooo badly that it is unplayable. Single player is fun though(Just not 30 bucks of fun).
