Epic Battle Fantasy 4, originally a Flash RPG game on Kongregate, now comes on Steam. If you have at least played EBF3 or EBF4 on Kongregate, then you will know how this game is run. It is one of my favourite games on Steam and I do not regret buying it. Also, it has all the DLCs that are available in Kongregate, with some stuff of its own.
STORY (SKIP IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THIS GAME AT ALL. JUST HOVER ON IF YOU DON'T CARE AT ALL.)
Despite my low playtime in this, I have finished this game on Kongregate and I can explain the whole story to you, but be warned, because I haven't played this game in a long time, I may not remember some of it.In EBF3, the gang (Matt, Natalie and Lance) defeated Akron in an attempt to save the world. Skip a lot of moments than a tadpole's tail can wag at you, and right now, they pillage the whole world around them because they can just do so, they're heroes anyways! However, the Greenwood Jewel, which is apparently supposed to stop Ashwood Forest from spreading into Greenwood, has been stolen - and it is up to Anna the feminine Robin Hood wannabe with magical arrow powers to find the Jewel. As she pushes into Ashwood, she finds Matt, whom she takes hostage until she finds the whole gang. After the first boss, everyone is here. They keep pushing on to different areas in search of the other Jewels. Anna reveals that if all the three Jewels are taken, something extremely bad will happen to the world. To avoid more spoilers, I'll shorten it down.At the end, you come upon Godcat's Temple, which is filled with kitty cats with no limbs ready to kill you. At the top, you see that it was the no-limbed kitties that stole the Jewels and proceed into the final battle - Godcat. The "something extremely bad" I mentioned? Yep, it's Godcat. And she's going to end the world if you don't kill her. Oh wait, there's two Godcats actually, one is the Creation one, and the other is the Destruction one. It's kill or be killed, quite literally - only much harder than your typical final boss.
This game has a bunch of mechanics that are useful. There are 4 difficulties, Easy, Medium, Hard and Epic. Epic being the most difficult. There are even achievements for killing bosses in Epic difficulty, but be prepared, because those bad boys hit extremely hard on Epic. If the game lags for you, you can turn down the quality down to a halt. You can make your quality low (Flash game, what do you expect?) and turn off the idle animations for everything. It helps a lot to me, even with a 1.65GHz and 4GB RAM laptop.
After you beat the first boss, you already know that the whole gang is here. However, with there being 4 main characters right now, you can press on the button that shows all their stats in a nutshell on the bottom left - your entire screen will be then covered by all the characters showing off their equipment and stats. Fun fact: if one of the heroes has low health, they will be shown with a scared look on their face, and if they have high health, they will have a ♥♥♥♥ eating grin.
That screen-covering thing I'm talking about? It allows you to switch between any of the four heroes around. So you can have Matt, Natalie and Lance for an EBF3-esque feeling.
As it is in all RPGs, each character has their own skills to be used against enemies. However, there are special skills that others can learn - for example, one Limit Break can be learned by Anna or Matt, but only one of them can have it. This makes you think about strategies to use against the enemies.
+ The game has a number of configurations
+ A lot of achievements for the completionists+ Natalie's bouncing boobs ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+ Achievement for touching the big body part of a woman ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+ Combinations of different characters and skills allowing for different strategies.+ Panties ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+ A lot of different items to collect and upgrade.
+ Lots of quests because NPCs can't do ♥♥♥♥ themselves.
+ Various anime references (I'm looking at you, Alphonse Elric...)
- Because of the high system requirements and the game is a Flash game, there is always inbound lag if you have a bad computer.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4 is a truly amazing game, filled with various references and many bosses to slay for dat precious booty ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) swiggity swooty
. Its mechanics allow to create many strategies to use against bosses, and with the amount of equipment available, the strategies are literally endless. With its quirky dialogue and epic battles (see what I did there? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ), this game is worth to be picked up.7.8/10, too much water.
In all seriousness, 10/10.
