About This Game

... on that blindingly bright day ...
... on that very day of winter ...

This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than "on 7F" or "at home".

This is a story of so many things.

But most of all ...

This is the story
of a girl whose heart was standing still
and a boy whose breath was being stolen away,
both of whom die.

The hospice, when the life starts to wither and no ways back.
The hospice, when death is knocking the door and no ways to shoo it away.
Make it short, narcissu shows the relationship of dying people, the role they play (to be left, leaving, and bystander).
The story is so rich, so deep and give new meaning of regret, hope, condemn. pray, and helpessness.
And if, just if, your time is decided. What is your list of ten things to do before dying?
Is making peace with yourself included?

You may have wondered sometimes what's the meaning of life. This question takes a whole other sense when you'll die young and you're aware of it. Narcissu explores this theme, the fatality of death, and it does it very well.

Both games are heavy, but the second one is somewhat a little more light-hearted. The characters have more personality and more drive, and one of the protagonists even manages to be funny, or at least tries to. However, both are beautiful stories. They show people trying to make the most of their life despite how short it will be, and despite how sick and weak they will have to face it.

Even though those are very sad stories that made me feel down, I enjoyed them and recommend to read them to anyone interested in dark stories that make you reflect on life and the absurdity of it. Aftwerwards, it made me feel good and optimistic: yes, there will be a point in my life where I have few things I'll be able to do in my remaining time like the characters in Narcissu, but contrary to them, I have the chance to live a fulfilling life filled with many experiences until then. I hope that's how you'll take it too.

This game definitely reminds me of my grandma's death, she died of ALS; and she also died in 2007, the year this game was released. It brings back memories, and the 7th floor made me think back to that room my grandma was staying in. Also, love this game because it reminds me of how far along visual novels have come in gaming history.

As much as I like visual novels, I can't bring myself to recommend this game with anyone. The plot is very slow moving, the characters aren't very likeable, and the 'save' function caused me to drop this game permanently. There was definitely potential for this game and a great idea, but the execution failed to make an impact.

Pros:
- The plot is makes sense with minimal plot holes. Doesn't leave the reader with many questions
- The audio clips were appropriate
- There were no bugs or lag in my playthrough
- The imagry was executed very well, all of the images for the background were beautifully drawn
- Appropriate audio clips were played when a character needed to perform an action

Cons:
- There was no autosave function, which might not be a big complaint for most people, but I forgot to save and closed the game 50 minutes in
- The plot was very slow moving, if you can't handle turtle-paced execution and slow character development, this is not the game for you.
- The looping soundtrack was distracting, especially when the audio cut and replayed
- The text scrolled really slowly
- Again regarding the plot, the goal that the two patients were aiming for seemed forced, like it was just to keep the story running

I gave up on this game when I got to the seashore, accidentally closed the application, and was forced to restart all over (the game does not allow you to start a story from a certain chapter/checkpoint if you haven't saved). I found the plot uninteresting and boring after a while and could not find the motivation to pick it up again. While this may be a great game to fall asleep with, I can not recommend it even if it is free.

It's an old game, but it tells a very interesting and touching story, definitely worth a try.

Prepare a box of tissues before starting the game.

Hmm, Narcissu, where to start...
this visual novel encaptures depression in a very profound manner - on a journey to discover what it means to live again. The characters' sadness is rather felt than said. Highly recommended as a visual novel.

This game was really sad. But it was very enjoyable to read. I, a very visual novel obssesed guy enjoyed this game to an extent which people wouldnt comprehend. This game teaches you so many things in life that you will see the world in a whole different way. Although i must say...i was dissapointed in the ending. I had a better ending in my head but i guess...that would have never happened. This game teaches you that you should never give up, and dont give up on your loved ones. Even if they are saying stuff like "forget me" or "just leave me alone". Not to mention that people who are healthy are having it the best. People who have a job, car and basically everything which you would "normally" have.

Nonetheless i recommend checking this game out. I recommend it to everybody, and i guarantee you that you will learn things which you would have never learned before.

Narcissu 1st & 2nd is a Japanese visual novel developed by stage-nana and written originally in Japanese by Tomo Kataoka. This VN tells the story about the residence of 7th floor Setsumi Sakura and her experience during the last moment of her life.

This game includes both the Narcissu 1st & Narcissu 2nd. 2nd being the prequel and 1st is the main story of Setsumi.
The 2nd tells the story of Himeko Sunohara as her life take a 180 degree turn when she was diagnosed with a diseased that can't be cured, thus she's moved to the 7th floor. Himeko used to work as helper in 7th floor so she kinda used to the situation, but then it all changes when she met Setsumi.

Narcissu 1st set appx. 6-7 years after 2nd. The story is focused on the anonymous Protagonist (just think of him as us) who is terminally ill & Setsumi as both of them realizes their feeling of not wanting to die in the hospital or at home with their respective families. The two of them begin a long journey accross Japan until they find that place...
NARCISSU

I have completed the game 2 years ago and when I found this game on Steam Greenlight, I immediately vote it up as I think this COULD BE first step of introducing the Visual Novel medium to the West. Currently the game is in Early Access but don't let that bother you because the story itself is completed & translated. I'm also part of the Closed Beta tester and I could say that Sekai Project did a good job of making the game engine compatible with Steamwork.

Definitely a must have if you are an avid VN player or you are interested in this medium, even after 2 years of finishing this, I still get dem feels moment :') a Masterpiece indeed!
