Hi all, we just released another game onto Steam (and PS4/Vita), an homage to 8bit gaming days of the ZX Spectrum.

Get ready to take a trip back to the 80s, the 1880s!
Help young Queen Victoria fight her way across Mars and attempt to escape home in this exceedingly retro arcade adventure!

RBDX is a 2D pixel drawn arcade action game, created as if made on an 8bit hardware (specifically the ZX Spectrum), but modernised with widescreen formatting, HD rendering and of course - no colour clash!

“Aqua Kitty-Milk Mine Defender is a cute little arcade shooter that is too good to pass up. The graphics are pretty, the music is awesome, and it felt appropriately difficult on its own merit rather than me fighting the system. I’ve got little but praise for this game and felt it worth the price.”

About This Game

Aqua Kitty is a fast paced retro styled submarine arcade shooter with optional 2 player local Co-op.
Blast through hordes of mechanical sea monsters in your kitty sub and defend the deep sea milk mining kittens!

Due to a sudden shortage of milk, cats around the world are forced to seek out new sources to get their fix.
You and your team of milk mining kittens have overcome a fear of water to drill down under the ocean seabed and begin extracting vast reserves of what seems to be naturally forming full-fat milk.
Get ready for fast paced submarine action, defending the kittens from disruptive mechanical sea creatures.

Key Features

Optional 2 player local CO-OP.
Branching map progression of levels.
3 Main Game Campaign Modes
Normal Mode - the standard game of branching levels full of mechanical enemies with differing behaviours.
Easy Mode - a version of Normal mode in case you found it too hard, with more health and easier enemies.
Arcade Mode - a special survival mode where you must collect gems to purchase powerups.
Depth based power-up systems which gives partial control on the type and location of the power-ups created (allowing tactical advantage).
Classic infinite mode milk-free level, that never ever ends - for the hardcore challenge.
Dual firing submarine with a rechargeable secondary weapon that needs to be managed carefully (upgrades through game progress in Easy and Normal Modes, but upgrades via a shop system in Arcade Mode).
Varying sea depths per level which subtly affect gameplay.
Chain kill combo system allowing the more skilled player to maximise score.
Steam online leaderboards to challenge and achievements to obtain.
Hand drawn pixel art graphics, displayed at a crisp 720p.
Awesome chiptune music taking inspiration from the best of the C64 and Amiga days.

Development history

Hello, here is a short history of this indie games' development which we hope will be of interest.
Aqua Kitty was made by a core team of two people with audio created by Electric Cafe and the game box art by artist David Hankin.
It began as a small modern-retro styled PC game, designed to run at a crisp 1280x720 it was created with a love of the 16bit gaming era and late 80s video arcade games.

There are 3 core versions of the game available of different hardware - PC, XBox360 and Sony PSM.

Sony version is the oldest and smallest version. A critically acclaimed launch title for PSM (Vita).

XBox version is the Sony version with extra added levels + enemies + refinements.

PC version is the most feature rich and improves on the XBox one with new Weapons + Gradius style Arcade mode + yet further refinements and extra details (with the Steam version being unique in having online leaderboards and achievements).

All the new things we have added to the Steam version will also be rolled back into the other PC versions unless Steam specific (ie Online leaderboards, achievements, trading cards are STEAM ONLY).

System Requirements

    • OS: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8
    • Processor: 1.2Ghz Processor
    • Memory: 1 GB RAM
    • Graphics: DirectX 9.0c-compatible graphics card with 128 MB VRAM
    • DirectX: Version 9.0c

The Ultimate Kitty Arcade Milk Defender Game!!

Aqua kitty is a Shoot'Em up retro style arcade game about Cats trying to save the source of Milk in the world.

The game is very colorful and adorable the background and the music are really good.

About the gameplay.
The powerups you find buffs up your submarine, Same for the system of every shoot'em up arcade game.
A lot of enemies to kill and discover on every level.
Try not to get destroyed while also protecting your milk miners from being abducted.
Survive Waves of enemies and bullet hell.
Use the Radar to locate enemies and your Milk Miners

I like how the ship is controlled , buttons to shoot and To use turbo shooting and one to flip it ( so you can quickly face the other direction ).
About 5 Power-Ups for attacking, 1 Bomb aid and a health pickup.
Every few levels you finish upgrades your Turbo Gauge which enables you to use turbo ( Which is a rapid stronger attack) for a longer period.
In the map you progress through levels, you can see it in one of the screenshots of the store page.

3 Modes to pick from
Easy , Normal And Arcade, They are self-explained But arcade is basically a perma-death mode, try to finish all levels without dying, Only in arcade mode you get Green gems to purchase powerups and unlike normal and easy mode they last with you until the next level, you purchase from 3 powerups, Hp+ Or a boost.
And all modes have 25 Levels, I started with Normal mode and finished all levels at about 3 hours, But still there is arcade mode which is really hard to finish and of-course Infinite mode.

And This is a special level infinite espresso basically an endless survival mode with no Milk Miners to defend, just survive endless waves and dont get killed.

So The Good .. the Bad .. and the tl;dr.

Pros :
1 - A shoot'em up arcade game style with really great music and an addictive type of shooting.
2 - Very challenging and increases as you go on, And has Arcade + Infinite mode those are great.
3 - Having achievements to grind for, Trading cards and leaderboard system, But mostly the achievements are designed well.
4 - Diffidently fun to play alone, But even greater with a Local Coop Buddy.

Cons : ( they are not that bad but )
1 - Its one of those games that even if you play with a keyboard it shows controller buttons when promoting for next level and other things.
2 - Not having rebind-able keys because the controls on a keyboard are not that great ( Although I played it with a controller just thought I'd let you Keyboard only gamers out there ).
3 - I don't mind the 720p I love it its just having a forced 1280x720 resolution looks a bit foggy when using the steam-overlay to chat with friends, BUT the game looks totally perfect.
4 - The level balance is not that perfect, For an example level 14 you'd die a lot at but from 15 to 20 you can do it without dying once.

Its a very classic looking arcade game that is fun to play and having an endless mode is good because you can test yourself and see it on leaderboards, Bring a local coop buddy and grind this baby.

Recommending this to all arcade type game lovers out there, This is adorable and fun and challenging, A good experience I had : ).

< Disclaimer!! I got this game for free for reviewing purposes >

I'm Not a cat person but I sure love this game.

It reminds me of the old Retro Arcade games I used to play, And this one is undersea, which is weird because cat don't like water.

The game-play, You get power-ups to buff up your submarine And health pickups to .. you know .. heal, And a bomb power-up that auto explodes when picked up to clear the area.

The main goal is to not die (Duh) and defend those little kitties that are working the Milk Miners from being abducted.
Discover more enemies as you move further in map, Defend 1,2 or 3 milk miners it differs between levels, and a Boss fight at the last level.

25 Levels in 3 Modes.
Easy - Normal - Arcade.
I don't think I need to explain the first two, But Arcade mode is PermaDeath mode, Try to finish the 25 levels without dying once, Its the only one you get gems as money to use to purchase upgrades or heal your ship.
And an extra level Infinite Espresso which is an endless survival game but you have no Kitties to defend, Just fend for yourself.

Pros :
1 - Wonderful designed game, Very cool soundtrack, Animations And Effects.
2 - Addictive Style, That comes with achievements and trading cards and a leaderboard system for all 4 modes of the game.
3 - A challenging game and a blast to play with a local coop buddy.
4 - I really liked this feature when a kitty is being abducted when it says ( Meow ) To alert you, The sound comes from its place so by listening to my headphone I can tell where to go left or right without having to look at the Radar.

Cons :
1 - Its the type of game that will keep showing you controller buttons even if you are using a keyboard.
2 - Has no re-definable keys and the game kinda needs it for a keyboard user because the base ones are not that good.
3 - Forcing 1280x720 resolution is okay in the game it looks good but while using over-lay to chat it looks a bit blurry in my 1366x768 native resolution.
4 - It felt like some levels are waaaay much harder than the more advanced levels > as in level 10 being 5 times harder than level 15 ( my numbers are not accurate because I forgot which but you get the idea )

The butter of the review :
A Very colorful Retro Arcade game, Even if you're a dog person you'd still love this game, Its fun and challenging and gives you time to grind for achievements and The Endless survival map.
Recommending this for all you Retro shooting Lovers out there who'd love to get an adorable fun game like this.

Average Completion Time :
I'd say around 2-3 hours to finish normal mode maybe less on easy mode.
And it depends on you on how long it takes to finish Arcade mode because its quite hard.
And endless hours to get a leadboard ranking and to show how far can you reach in Survival.

Cute cats underwater mining milk while a cat in a sub protects them. A clone of a arcade game with a classic feel, worth a grab during a sale.

Sweet little game.

Amazing sounds and graphics, like really top notch, and I love kitties!!

Unfortunately I'm not to bad at these types of game, and after playing 20 minutes was worried I'll complete the main game in just over an hour, it's like a gourmet meal, very good, but you don't get enough, 6 hours in and it feels like I've nerarly sucked the teat dry, but it was a good 6 hours!

I got gifted this game from a giveaway. So bare that in mind.

It's an old school side scroller. Cat humor. Pixelated graphics. Not bad though.

Aqua Kitty is a side-scrolling shooter that reminds me of a classsic arcade game called 'Defender'
The art style reminds me of a lot of classic Amiga games and all in all this is a great and fun little title.

Well, it looks pretty, but pc port is weak, there is no any form of support for 4:3 and promts are for xbawks.
Controls are strange and mechanics are kinda imbalanced.

Well, pixelart is still good.

I have a really bad milk fetish. So it only makes sense that I would look up milk on Steam. This game was the first thing that came up, so I got it. There wasn't alot of milk in it but it's ok I guess.

Fun and cute.
Difficulty curve is not half bad. Dime-store arcadia variety game, just like you used to play.

Trying to shoot enemies in this game is a pain in the ♥♥♥ as they're either too tiny or take too much damage. The turbo weapon's a waste of time since it runs out so quick and feels like it's only there as a half-hearted apology for how bad the default weapon is. The default weapon's stuck to that terrible firerate regardless or whether you hold or tap fire, this basically means you can't just tap and shoot multiple enemies in a row with any sort of precision. Instead of power-up dispensers being big and flashing power-up icons it instead is tinier than everything else in the game, flashes colours and can HURT YOU, which is of course, WAY more convinient for the player since, who wants to pay attention to that whilst in the middle of trying to juggle bullet/enemy hell and hauling ♥♥♥ to whichever cat's currently being abducted at that time? Then in your mad rush to get to (almost always) the direct opposite side of the map to rescue that cat you take loads of damage from crashing into everything, you can't beat the level's high score no matter how high you can get your kill-chain and keep all the miners safe, then you keep dying trying to beat it even faster, then you just quit the game before you burst a blood vessel.

tl;dr this game would be more fun if it didn't have all these annoying design flaws.

This game shines with lovely pixel-art, a great soundtrack, a fair learning curve concerning the "campaign" mode and enough difficulty for bullet-hell and arcade veterans. Worth the price!

Must I save All the kitty milk miners? Yes! In my heart I know I must. I shall not let a Kitty miner perish on my watch! For if I don't save all the kittens, I ask you who will? Will it be you? Well? Will it? It's more than just a game it's being a hero, a savior if you will. I ask you please, heed the call and take up arms with me, become a MILK MINE DEFENDER!!!!

I read all the all-positive reviews, this sounded like a safe bet... but I ended up regretting this purchase, so I'll write up what I wished some of the reviews would have warned me about. The concept is great, the music is fantastic, and the graphics are colorful and appealing. Where Aquakitty failed for me was poor gameplay and lack of content.

The game starts off simple, but as the difficulty ramps up, excessive quantities of bullet-sponge enemies appear and the player isn't given enough firepower to take out all of them effectively, which you MUST do for each level. The game becomes an exercise in waiting a LONG time for things to die in front of the ship while more enemies spawn in which gets increasingly tedius and unfun. The original 'Defender' makes you feel fast and powerful despite how hard it is - Aquakitty just makes you feel impotent due to the ridiculously low fire rate.

The game spawns enemies suddenly with absolutely no transition, and is shameless in putting them right over the cats you need to defend. As a result you end up succeeding more if you ignore the main game screen and focus on the RADAR, which does not center on your ship; if you don't look at it constantly you will have to look for the orange dot every time. Enemy patterns feel erratic and are generally a pain to deal with, and feels unrefined compared to de-facto classic shmup style games. Getting farther in the game offers no significant new fun or gameplay elements as you advance, adding to the tedium. The only upgrade it gives you for advancing is a bigger "turboshot" bar which you never have enough of anyway. Once you get 10 levels in and a few mere minutes of play, you've pretty much seen everything, and thats not much different than how it starts. In general the game isn't even that difficult - its just comes off as being boring and annoying.

Presentation is strictly bare-bones and there's no controller config so I had to use JoyToKey to let me use the shoulder triggers to reverse direction. One of the biggest problems I have is that despite the clever theme and cute cat art, there's no story, not even a still picture with text to drive a narrative as to what you are doing, why you are doing it, or incentive to keep you interested. As a result, the cats are more or less a graphic skin with no bearing on gameplay and no story content. I expected more. The trailer made the game seem a lot better than it is, and I really wanted to like it. Maybe for a $3 price point I would have been fine with the mobile-app level of production values and features but not for $7. Hope this review is helpful in making your purchasing decision.

A really fun side-scrolling shooter game! Graphics are nice (pixels), music is cool, and of course - it's about cats! It's not as fast as Syder Arcade, but it does get challenging, even on Normal Mode. The first few levels are quite easy, but it does get harder pretty fast. I really love the different "Meow" sound effects - the "call for help" meow when a miner gets kidnapped, and the angry meow when you save him.

So if you like either side scrolling shooters or cats, Aqua Kitty is your game!
