Due to a sudden shortage of milk, cats around the world are forced to seek out new sources to get their fix.
You and your team of milk mining kittens have overcome a fear of water to drill down under the ocean seabed and begin extracting vast reserves of what seems to be naturally forming full-fat milk.
Get ready for fast paced submarine action, defending the kittens from disruptive mechanical sea creatures.

Normal Mode - the standard game of branching levels full of mechanical enemies with differing behaviours.

Depth based power-up systems which gives partial control on the type and location of the power-ups created (allowing tactical advantage).

Dual firing submarine with a rechargeable secondary weapon that needs to be managed carefully (upgrades through game progress in Easy and Normal Modes, but upgrades via a shop system in Arcade Mode).

Steam online leaderboards to challenge and achievements to obtain.
Hand drawn pixel art graphics, displayed at a crisp 720p.

Development history

Hello, here is a short history of this indie games' development which we hope will be of interest.
Aqua Kitty was made by a core team of two people with audio created by Electric Cafe and the game box art by artist David Hankin.
It began as a small modern-retro styled PC game, designed to run at a crisp 1280x720 it was created with a love of the 16bit gaming era and late 80s video arcade games.

There are 3 core versions of the game available of different hardware - PC, XBox360 and Sony PSM.

Sony version is the oldest and smallest version. A critically acclaimed launch title for PSM (Vita).

XBox version is the Sony version with extra added levels + enemies + refinements.

PC version is the most feature rich and improves on the XBox one with new Weapons + Gradius style Arcade mode + yet further refinements and extra details (with the Steam version being unique in having online leaderboards and achievements).

All the new things we have added to the Steam version will also be rolled back into the other PC versions unless Steam specific (ie Online leaderboards, achievements, trading cards are STEAM ONLY).

For those of you that remember the original Seaquest game (circa 1983), for the Atari 2600... Your little submarine was charged with the task of rescuing divers and blowing up anything else that stood in your way. (Loved it!) At long last, and many years later we elders of gaming and our whipper snapping next, next, next generation (I forget what the latest and hippest term should be...), now has a true and worthy successor!

Ohhhhh, the utter charming and adorable cuteness of the many cats and kittens in this game, should by no means detract you from the sheer fact that this is a bloody hard and brilliant Arcade epic! It's so awesome and so much fun, I barely know where to begin. Is it fast paced?! And how!!!! Will you become addicted?! Oh my yes indeed! Will you forget the world around you, and that you have to cook dinner for a hungry family?! *Cough, cough... errrrr I might have.... errrrrr a time or two...* Will your trigger finger be glued to the controller?! Oh yeah!!!!

Gameplay is divine. Graphics and sounds are wonderful. Storyline and plot are all about saving the cat miners, and undersea milk farms from destruction... Really do you need anymore than that?! Now be off with ya and have a blast me hearties!

cats are forced to brave the waters when the milk dries up.
its like defenders but cuter.
with all the shmup on steam this is definitely one of the better produced ones.

you can flip your ship so you can shoot right or left with your gun or a power shot with a recharging power gage.
you'll also find power ups for your gun or health droped by 2 differant enemies.
they have a color indacator on the front so you'll know what power up it will drop when shot.
the point of the game is to take out all enemies and stop the kitty minors from getting catnapped without getting blown up.
you'll have a small map that shows all enemies and the minors and when one it snatched they meow and the map will blink red.

The graphics of the game look really charming and it runs really smoothly. Also the BGM isn't superspecial, it's just all solid and nice music. It's not the type of game that I'd play for days in and out, I just like to play an hour or two and later in the week go back to it and play it again.

I personally haven't tried the easy setting because I like the normal one. You have the exact proper amount of difficulty in my opinion like that, challenging yet not insanely hard. Sometimes you have to play levels a couple of times before you succeed to decide the most simplest of things by example to clear left or right first. There's also a nice variety of enemies that play into the strategy part of the game, by example exploding enemies that you want to setup near high hp enemies so you blow them up more easily. You have your enemies that drop powerups with different variety in them but controlable by shooting them at the correct time with the color of the powerup you want. Besides all this there's also an Arcade mode for a little bit of variety but it's still in essence the same game.

The game isn't a Triple-A masterpiece with engaging storylines and immense plot-twists, it's a nice and simple shoot-em-up that sometimes looks like a bullethell kindof game when you messup and leave too many enemies on the screen.

I haven't tried to play this with local co-op so I'm not able to judge that. I have tried it by myself, and it seems to work fine.

In spirit of the game I'd rate it 7 out of 10 milk miners, and think it's worth it's price.

This game is really fun! One of the cutest shoot-em-ups ever, and it has such a weirdly endearing concept. It's challenging, even on easy, but by no means unbeatable. While there are only subtle differences in how each level looks, the game introduces new enemies and becomes progressively more challenging so it doesn't feel overly repetitive. And the color scheme is very pleasing to the eyes, whether the moon is high in the sky or the sun is setting.
