This game is really superb. While some levels break the immersion by giving rather difficult puzzles, some are extremely emotional, story driven and excellent. The creativity of the developers and designers of this game is out of this world. This game is a true gem in storytelling. It uses beautiful visuals and sounds to convey a message and its does that perfectly.

I highly recommend this game if you are looking for a unique, near perfect, story driven puzzle game.

Very heart-touchingly good. This game proves that war story does not have to focus on combats to be good, a rarity among video games about war. Appealing visual and excellent music go hand in hand to keep the player interested in following the storyline. The only thing bugging me about this game is the mandatory uplay installation.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War allows you to follow along the side of numerous different characters. The storyline is very well written considering none of the characters through the whole game say a single word. This game relies on its beautiful art style, its carefully chosen soundtrack, and its educational cut scenes to tell its story.

The game is inspired by letters that were written during World War I. You will have the opportunity to be 4 different characters as you aid a German through his journey through the war. This story is about friendships, sacrifice, survival and true dedication. The story will tug at your heartstrings at times, since it does often focus on how the war would tear families apart. However you will also be moved by the acts of heroism from complete strangers that become unlikely allies on your journey.

This game was developed for all sorts of players. Gameplay can be difficult at times since this game is a puzzle solving game. Not all the puzzles are too difficult, but they do offer somewhat of a challenge. I did find myself asking for help on a few occasions due to the level of detail some of these levels have to them. Aside from the difficulty of a select few levels, you will really come to appreciate the creativeness and beautiful scenery illustrated in the story. As you complete the various levels in the game, you are presented with boxes that contain historical information that is optional for players to read further if the topics are of interest.

Overall this is a great game that ties in many different components to attract all sorts of different audiences. The story does not overwhelm you with violence, but a story that allows you to hold onto things such as hope and heroism. You will have more of a focus on the characters and their experiences rather than the violence associated with the time period, which makes the game suitable for all ages. This game is definitely worth giving it a try. It is most likely not like other games you have experienced before.

Absolutly LOVED this game, both fun and very educational and tells a very emotional story based on actual letters from the Great War. Feels like you're living through a children's book, but one with a very artistic and powerful tone to it that makes the gamer take it seriously. It makes you wander through the destruction and horror that scarred the earth in the years of 1914-1918 which shall remain as one of history's most crucial and pivotal time period. This game is EXTREMELY emotional, and I finished the game crying. A true masterpiece of what educational games should be. If I were a history teacher, I'd have my students play this to learn about the Great War. Like I said, this game is a Masterpiece and shall remain as memorable and heartwarming one. Follows Emile, a grandfather and a father-in-law to a German Soldier (Karl) as he fights in the French Army and endures the horrors of one of greatest conflicts that has forever shocked this world to its deepest core. Loveable characters with simple yet fun gameplay and a story that every gamer must play through. Warning: You will cry playing this game, trust me. If you think the endings to both the Last of Us or the TellTales Walking Dead are sad and emotional. This one tops them both combined.

Valiant Hearts is an absolutely incredible game. It's the only game I really felt I needed to review.

The Story
The story is the sole reason why you need to play this game. It follows a small group of people, each of which had separate lives at the start, and shows the war through each of their perspectives, how it affected them, and how it caused them to come together. Valiant Hearts does an excellent job at conveying the characters and really makes you feel deeply for each one. It spends lots of time showing the horrors of war and all the sacrifices that go with it. Probably the best part about the overall story is that it depicts war not as people vs people, but as a force that craves human death and sacrifice. It has truly changed my view on war, forever.

The Art
The art is absolutely incredible in this game as well. So while the style is somewhat cartoony, the artists selected the perfect color palette to truly sell the mood that this game is going for and prevent it from being light-hearted. That's not to say this game is ALL serious though. There are some small comedic parts that lighten the mood and have some "cartoon physics" in them. You can also just look at the screenshots if you want to know more about the graphics. They're great.

The Gameplay
Unfortunately, this is Valiant Hearts weakest part. There's certainly nothing wrong with the gameplay mechanically, but it can get dull and slow at times. The reason for this slow pacing is to keep the atmosphere serious, realistic, and grounded. While it is a smart move for the atmosphere, the gameplay overall suffers. I personally am ok with this. I do think this is a worthy trade. One nice part of the gameplay is traveling through all the beautiful background environments. They are all gorgeous and they all help build the mood. Just know you won't be coming back to this game for the gameplay like you would for a game like Ori and the Blind Forest.

The Music
This is another high point for Valiant Hearts! The soundtrack is on par with every moment and can really pull you into the action and drama of the world. Hard to say anything else here, just know, its really good.

The Verdict
If there's one thing that I mentioned in just about every section, it was the mood. All the various parts of the game build the mood. Even though it can be rather depressing, its a fantastic experience. Like I said above, it has completely changed my views. Perhaps the story might not hit you as hard as it did to me but, this was the first game ever to truly make me cry. Now I've played some sad games before, but this game, threw me over the edge. It will forever have a special place in my heart.

This game deserves so much more praise and publicity than it has received. Hopefully they will make a part 2!

How to play "Valiant Hearts: The Great War":

Step 1: Lie down.
Step 2: Try not to cry.
Step 3: Cry a lot.

The only game, where it`s worth to instal Uplay.

10/10 would dance to band at train station again.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a great 2d animated sidescroller game, which will make you relive the war times,

Pros
1) Interesting and deep story which you will take part in with different characters
2) Game teach you about past war events our ancestors lived in person
3) Easy to play (Except some quick time events which require a bit of skill)
4) UPlay points to buy even more content for the game for "free"
5) A great amount of collectibles, which will explain you how war times were
6) Great artistical locations and music

Cons
1) A bit too short, would've loved more content of the game, as it's quite good
2) The feels ! The moment you think it's going to be good, it turns downside

The game uses UPlay client, but it's not even noticeable, and by playing and progressing the game, you even get UPlay points which you can spend on other Ubisoft games to purchase In-Game content.

P.S. Ubisoft did a great job with this game, thumbs up.

Intense, touching, emotional. A jump'n'run which not only captivates the player because of its easily accessible layout but also because of its storyline. If you are interested in "the war to end all wars", you will have to get this game.

Wow, what a beautiful game. I really loathe Ubisoft, but I have the utmost respect for Ubi Art. Make sure when you play to try to pick up all collectibles and press TAB to read about them. Read all historical facts and diary entries as they come along. These things gives so much information and depth to the game. I have learned more about WW I than I thought I would and in the best way possible, as a game.

There is a lot of emotional depth as well and we get to understand and feel for all characters in the game.

Highly recommended.

This is an absolute masterpiece. Every aspect of Valiant Hearts is a work of art. I'm so friggen glad I finally got around to playing this.

If you're 1 of those people protesting against UPlay. Do yourself a favor & move that picket line on to the next game. You're doing yourself a disservice by avoiding this title.

Valiant hearts: The great War... This game will kick your feels HARD. Like really, REALLY HARD.
The gameplay is simple and allow to full immerge in the story, low replayability in itself (only the hunt of the collectibles or wanting to read the story again) but one single play... One single play of this story ALONE is worth in full the cost of the game.

Buy it and play it, you will NEVER regret the money spent for it.

(Only cons: REQUIRES UPLAY TO PLAY IT EVEN ON STEAM... But it's so worth that this should not stop you at all. On a side note I didn't had any issue with UPLAY at all so it didn't really disturbed me.)
