This is really a great game. It is complete as it is but if you want you can get those two expansions they made later as well. Not to mention all the mods made for it and the possibility to make your own.

Even the music is epic to say the least.

I consider this game to be a classic and a gem. If you are a person who loves to play really, really, REALLY involved strategy games, then you seriously need to consider getting this game. To be honest, "Divine Wind", which is the final expansion to the game Europa Universalis III, is the only version I know because when I got this game it had all of the expansions with it. However, I am sure that this review can still apply to the base game and other expansions.

The best way I can describe this game is that it is an open-ended grand strategy game, in which you set out to achieve whatever you want - there are no victory conditions and no end game objectives. The fact that you can play as ANY kingdom, principality, republic, etc. within the game's timeframe makes it even more amazing.

The amount of depth that goes into this game is unparalleled by any other game I've ever played. There is so much fine detail involved that I learn something new about how the game works almost every time I play. And that's saying something considering how long I've played. Every aspect of the game from economy, military, politics, religion, exploration, and so on, is very detailed and it all ties together rather nicely.

What makes this game great too is that it leads to epic unwritten stories that take unexpected twists and turns throughout the game. You will be amazed at how a once-proud and mighty country that is a serious rival and threat to you in the early game can end up being completely dismantled by either you or the other computer controlled nations. And when one menace falls, there always seems to be another even bigger and more threatening one that takes its place. And sometimes, this mid/late game menace started out as a puny nation that got very lucky and quietly took advantage of opportunities...only to end up being crushed by another country, such as yours. And no two campaigns are ever the same.

Over the course of the game, you will get hit by dozens of random events that occur. These events can range from beneficial like giving you claims on wealthy neighboring lands, to disastrous like a major rebellion in your country. Many of these events give you multiple options, which can lead to difficult decisions that have to be made.

And beware of neighboring rivals who will declare war on you and effectively kick you while you're down - something the AI LOVES to do to you. You will also notice that computer controlled nations like to form deep alliances, where even declaring war on a tiny nation could possibly lead to a war with half of Europe teammed up against you.

But all of these things are what make Europa Universalis III challenging and entertaining. Trying to figure out how to defeat great alliances, trying to manage your country's economy as you build a global empire, etc., all leads to a supreme sense of achievement at the end of a campaign. Whenever I finish a full campaign, I like to sit back and admire what I achieved, and consider what I could have done differently.

Now, this game is VERY demanding in terms of time and commitment. You need to set aside plenty of time to play this game in order to fully enjoy and appreciate playing it. You also need to have a lot of patience as this is a rather slow-paced game (for good reason though). And if you've never taken on a grand strategy game before (like me, before I played this game), then you will probably find that this game has a major learning curve. But I encourage you to persevere because it is well worth it.

Overall, words cannot describe how incredible Europa Universalis III is; it has to be experienced. If you have the time, patience, and most importantly, ambition, then you should seriously consider playing this game.
I rate this game at 10/10

Great game, better than EU2, slightly worse than EU4. But it is great to know you are playing the final and completed product.

If you don't mind playing a game where 50% of the time you are reading the wiki, or you are able to charge into games without worrying about playing optimally, then this is a great game for you. This is an increadibly deep game that has a huge potential for replayability.

Heir to the Throne and Divine Wind are strongly reccomended purchases. Try get the game and expansions on sale, as at normal pricing is a bit expensive.

An amazing historical(Most games end Ahistorical) game made by Paradox Interactive. The Game lets you play as any country from 1388 to 1800s(Dont remember EXACT date)Anyways im first going to do multiple concepts.

1.Land War
The Land war in this game is actually good theres multiple factors contributing,Your Ideas your Technology,Your Idea Group(Western Beats Eastern)your Generals stats(Shock,Fire,Manuever and Siege)Numbers also count but not as much.Theres also a few other factors but i want to do a brief overview of the game.

2.Naval War
The Naval war isnt as good as the land war but its still got a few factors.Tech,Ideas and Group still count your Admiral also counts but since i havent done much Sea combat i dont know much about their difftrent stats.

3.Economy Your economy is made up by the following Taxes and Trade. These can be boosted by buildings Ideas and tech.

4.Comparison vrs Hearts of Iron III(I have Cd not steam version) Im only going to compare the similarities such as the UI,Map design and diplomacy. The UI in HoIII is pretty much the same as EuIII the map design for HoIII is a slightly larger map and with DLC for both games you can add names to your countries(Not standalones)Overall this game is a Great game.

Good game, which allows to better know the geography and history of the world. Interesting economy in controlling the state, as well as interaction with the world. You do not know who are the Mughals? Then you have a great chance to find out it's. You can see the different civilizations that have been centuries ago. Civilizations, whose legacy is still alive. 10 of 10 ancient civilizations.

I thoroughly enjoyed Europa Universalis 3 since i first got the game, from the beautiful map and sprites to the chilling music that plays everytime I start up this masterpiece. When I am in game i get engrossed in the game and often imagine if I was in charge of the Ming Dynasty or the Duchy of Burgundy.

I would recommend EU3 to anybody that would want a game that would challenge their ability to run a country through the eras from the end of the middle ages to the post napoleonic era. the gameplay is solid with many years of replayibility.

Multiplayer however is not recommended for casual players who just want to play this game for fun.

Run a medieval nation, complete with Peasant uprisings, pesky natives, and vulnerable piggy banks ready to rob to continue to fuel your Military-Industrial Complex!

EU3 is a game that has little in the way of graphics (effectively a map with small chess pieces scattered across it) but it more then makes up for in Content. With five expansions (three included, two separate and available to buy) 200+ nations to try, and more then 400 years of time-frame, there is plenty of fun to be had in EU3.

While EU4 has been out awhile, EU3 is still worth a look if you answer yes to the following questions;
Are you thrifty?
Do you want a fun Grand-Strategy, but don't have enough for EU4 and its myriad of DLC?
Do you already have EU4, but are tired of all the constant gameplay changes and game-shattering updates?
Do you want more games you can play offline?
Are you okay getting a game with outdated Multiplayer?

If so, this will satisfy any and all of the above dilemmas!

When I first tried Europa Universalis 3, I got bored of the game within an hour. I was considering to get a refund for it, but decided to give it another go. And am I glad I did. This game for me feels like the grand strategy of the Total War seires on steriods. It requires patience, as just going on a massive warmongering spree will just end in half the nations on your continent starting a war with you and you nation being excommunicated. I still have know idea what I'm doing at times as at time of writing, I'm still waiting for Henry V to take the throne (King Henry IV just won't die!).

To cut to the chase, if you don't mind the complete lack of action and are a big fan of strategy, this is a title you should keep an eye on.

I really like this type of game. Many hours of fun but sometimes crashes on my saved games like it was a corrupt save. Due to the kids i have to save often and come back to the game later. Not being able to pick off when i left off was a downer if that save point kept crashing after being loaded. Only fix i found was to save more often and if the specific load crashes i load an earlier save and cross fingers. Love the game enough to overlook the setbacks. win10

If you can master this game... or come remotely close to mastering this game, then you should be deemed King of Strategy games.

A multifaceted strategy game that will keep you busy pulling out your hair for hours; the complexity of this game is both a strength and a source of limitless frustrations. :) With that said, it is well worth the $15 that is now being charged for it.

Works seemlessly on Windows. Perhaps one day I will get around to installing it on my Linux box.

Misleading title: expected to be able to build an empire of pikemen and farmers on Jupiter's moon Europa but the game's setting is apparently stuck on Earth with no options for a 14th century space program because the Pope says it is heresy.

I would still recommend anyway if you're into petty earthly conflicts.

I want to create a nation of peace and prosperity but some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ declares war on me, I destroy them, my infamy goes up. Another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ declares war on me, I destroy them too and my infamy goes up. Then another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ warns me not to go on any wars because my infamy is too high, then attacks me, I destroy them and my infamy goes up. And again and again.

I felt like the silent kid that sits at the back of the class and gets bullied all the time and when he finally gets fed up with the bullies he rips the balls of the bully and feeds them to the dogs of the neighborhood.

♥♥♥♥ you France, ♥♥♥♥ you Hungary, ♥♥♥♥ you Castille, ♥♥♥♥ you England and most importantly ♥♥♥♥ you Austria for declaring war on me even though I ♥♥♥♥ed the ♥♥♥♥ out of your country couple of times and still going on to the war with me with your last two remaining provinces.

Still the one of the best games in the grand strategy genre and this was only my last playthrough with Mecklenburg, I thinkhave 400 hours more in this game just not on Steam. I enjoyed very good campaigns with Mecklenburg (3 times after counting this last game) Utrecht, Milan, Denmark, Bradenburg, Luxembourg and Sweden.

I haven't played EU IV yet, but III is very good nonetheless.

P.S. Although they seem like an underdog, Mecklenburg is ♥♥♥♥ing great to play and the easiest nation to form German Nation.

P.S. France is too OP.

First off, this game is very complex and takes some time to truly understand how it works. In the end I have to say it is one of my fav games of all time. Yes EU4 is out, I would recomend EU3 over EU4. I own both and 4 is great but its missing all the stuff thats in 3. This is one of the best strategy simulation games out there. If your into this I recomend this game.
