Why Early Access?

“Developing a puzzle game requires putting a lot of care into balance, especially for head-to-head play. Feedback from players has been and continues to be invaluable for improving Polymino's quality of life and balance.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect the game to be finished in 2025.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are two main areas which need improvement before release: completing all game modes and adding more visual/audio content. Examples of visual/audio content include unlockable cosmetics, more music, and alternate sets of sound effects.
Once the game's soundtrack is completed, the plan is to also make it available as a seperate purchase on this Store page.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game modes which currently exist are:

Classic: 1-4 players, try to get the highest score possible as the game gets progressively harder. This mode is mostly complete, future additions are expected to mostly be quality-of-life changes.
Junk Attack: 2-4 players, the goal is to outlast your opponents and use special abilities to tip the balance in your favor. This mode is substantially complete but still requires testing and balancing.
Gauntlet: this mode is essentially Junk Attack for 1 human playing against 1 bot. Each time you beat the bot, a new round begins and the bot's AI becomes more challenging. This mode will be tweaked alongside Junk Attack since it uses the same basic rules and abilities, but will likely receive some tweaks of its own, such as to the bot's AI.
Puzzle: A more relaxed mode for 1 player. You start with a full board, but no more blocks are added. Your goal is to get as many points as possible with the starting board. This mode is pending a major rework to make it more distinct from Classic mode.

Current unlockable content (gained by earning Steam achievements):

Alternate appearances for blocks, junk pieces and projectiles
Alternate backgrounds and HUD themes
Alternate particle effects when destroying blocks and junk pieces
Sound effects packs (in addition to the default, there are currently two which can be unlocked as of writing)

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I may raise the price of the game by a small amount once it leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I want players to be involved in steering the direction of new game modes and helping to balance the game modes which already exist. It will also be very helpful if players take the time to report any bugs they encounter in the game. I want to accomplish this by communicating with players in the game's and the Steam Community Discussions.”

About This Game

Polymino is an intense puzzle game with a simple premise and a high skill ceiling. Match blocks of the same color to destroy the large junk pieces that are continually dropped into your board. If your board is too full for the next junk piece to fit, you lose!

Get creative and develop your own playstyle: use gravity to your advantage, chain huge combos, and line up satisfying shots that cause huge amounts of destruction!

Earn Steam Achievements to unlock bonus content, including cosmetic items and alternate sound effects
Challenge your friends locally or over Steam Remote Play in matches with up to 4 players
Experience versus mode solo by playing against bots in Gauntlet mode
Compete against players around the world by climbing the ranks of the Steam leaderboards, and get in-game rewards for reaching certain milestones
