About This Game

NETHER...IS...BACK! We have rolled back the game to Summer of 2014, when it first left Early Access and was still being developed by us, Phosphor Games Studio.

- Single Player enabled: It was not possible before, but now it's working, and it's hard! Have fun surviving the monster-filled urban apocalypse alone
- No more micro-transactions: all items can be bought with in game cash
- Multiplayer via player hosted servers! The old back end ripped out - no need for any login besides Steam. You control your community, and nobody can take your game from you again

- Custom server settings: you decided how many players, how many Nether, how much gun spawns, etc.
- Modding tools![/b]
- Bug fixes (including playing as a Nether, which was always pretty buggy

Nether is a fast-paced survival game that forces you to make quick life-saving decisions in an unforgiving environment. In this post-apocalyptic urban world, death is waiting around every corner, at the top of high-rise buildings, and in the grasp of powerful teleporting creatures known as 'Nethers'. These creatures and the other players are real challenges to overcome, requiring tactical gameplay, awareness, stealth, and cooperation. To navigate this high-tension environment, you must use skill and cunning in order to scavenge, trade, craft or loot for food, weapons, supplies, and other resources necessary to stay alive in a desolate and dangerous city. Team up with other survivors and take advantage of group play, as a tribe, to complete treacherous world objectives, or play as a lone wolf in an attempt to endure the hostile environment. In the end you must decide whether to Prey or Pray.

Key Features

The game's landscape is a beautifully conceived vision of a post apocalyptic Chicago, ravaged by disaster and time. Almost every low and high-rise building can be individually explored in a cityscape that stretches 150 blocks. Beyond the city lies the Wastelands, an unforgiving desolate landscape that is slowly sinking into the earth.

Start off, armed only with a kitchen knife and scavenge your way through an environment on a daily battle to stay alive. Beware the Nether, poor mutated souls who roam the city in search of human flesh. Scavenge for food and water to stay nourished, and search for useful items that could be crafted into makeshift weapons to help in your battle for life. Hunt and kill Nether to trade their body parts to the mysterious Cult located in the few markets that scatter the city. Over time, build up your skills and earn rewards for surviving each precious new day. But always beware of the other survivors who may be only one moment away from death, and see killing you and looting your possessions as their only salvation.

Find safety in numbers by joining a tribe. Only tribes can capture and own territory, and the urban landscape is the perfect setting for turf domination. Compete with rival tribes in territory wars for control of the city by capturing strategic landmarks to reap resources and experience; prove your dominance over all other tribes. Spy on rival tribes or infiltrate and kill them by playing as a Nether. Ambush them from above by swooping in for the kill using the wing suit. Tribes change the survival experience by establishing a true social construct, with all the consequences of behavior that you would expect in the real world. Your actions have real repercussions enforced organically through reputation and standing.

Players can complete an assortment of individual or group missions to earn money, experience and reputation. Perform vital supply runs between the markets, work with your tribe to take down the swarms of Nether lead by the vicious boss Reaper that sporadically surge to attack neighborhoods, or keep the creatures out of the Safezones by working in groups to repair the anti-nether devices when they fail.

Nether offers a wide variety of character customization and allows you to play as a male or female character. There is a huge selection of cosmetic items and player taunts to assert your individuality along with entire outfits to play roles like survivalist, soldier and biker - or even just play in your underwear.

  • Host your own private servers and control your settings and player population
  • First-person perspective creates a true survival experience
  • Meld of PvE (player versus environment) and PvP (player versus player) gameplay
  • New weapons and items become available as players explore the game world
  • Up to 64 players per game server
  • Single purchase, downloadable client allows full game access without subscription

Good idea, not even that bad of an excecution but avaricious developers.

Game was very buggy, and after having a lot of copies suddenly sold when youtubers started playing it, they stopped developement. I was rather sad, because I thought this game was going somewhere. Oh well, many games online, I would just move on.

A LOT of time later the game got resurrected! Wow, they're actually still going to do something? Nope. They just wanted some more cash is all. Developement stopped rather quickly after the surrection, and the game has now died twice. Not worth a single dollar.

I would like to give this a good reccomendation. I also would like a lot of things.
This was, and sadly was never, what I was hoping would be a game to follow in the footsteps of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the likes. Simply put: it is not. It is a laggy, half dead piece of crap that I honestly forgot I had bought. When I had first played this game (in early 2014) I thought it was ok, I had hopes that maybe, just MAYBE it would improve. But, after it "dying" and "being resurrected" (it was neither alive nor dead to begin with) I had given up on it. First impressions were mediocre. When I saw microtrasactions I knew it would be another MMO shooter that would be strangled by the devs thirst of money. Fast forward to later this year, hurrah! Micro transactions are gone....but the devs are silent on refunds for those who bought the gold, servers are still there...yet dead (oh, hey, a russian server with a ping of 6000 ♥♥♥♥♥!!!), the game takes up like 16gb of space for....what? Unoptimized textures? Glithcy assets? Yeah, basically, DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE A BRAIN. :D

A game that lived, died, was ressurected and left behind as a lifeless shell of a carcass that not even vultures would pick at.

Do yourself a favor and buy a 5 dollar foot long from subway instead, you would enjoy it better.

I vividly remember how, when the 'resurrection' by Phosphor Games was announced, all the fanboys came crawling out of their holes and cheered, claiming that PureFPS were the bad guys who are responsible for all the mess. When I dared to remind them that Phosphor Games aren't the 'good guys' either, who made countless empty promises and wrong decisions during development, everyone was bashing me for it.

And here we are a few months later.

'Resurrected' my ♥♥♥.

I remember that I paid a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money for this ♥♥♥♥ed up game. Even monkeys could code a better game than this piece of ♥♥♥♥. The game is not optimized at all and it was dropped once.
In short: Scamming on a new level.

To be honest this game needs lots of work.
1. Not enough loot (I've never found a gun and i barely can find food)
2. Game is dark
3. Player control seem very weird
4. More loot
5. I think the devs spent more time making the trailers than the games

Stop. Do not get this. It was fun once. Unfortunatl this Game is Dead. There are NO Updates to this unfinnished let-down of a game. Mininal Servers remain and the players who still play are mainly fanboys who refuse to accept they got taken like the rest of us when we paid for this game.

-It was fun when people still played and the hope of updates and new content fromt he devs was still alive.
-Was a fun concept
-Decent Graphics
-Cool Ceratures and NPC's

-Terrible and Toxic Community (Makes Rust isalnd seem like not such a bad place to live)
-No Updates
-Gets Old
-Lacking Mission Variety
-Few Servers
-Few Players
-Developers favorite song is "take the money and run" we should have known...
-Terrible XP System

back in the days a few years ago, it was really fun to go out and survive, traveling to different safezones and liberate them of the nether enemies that roam there when the devices are needing repairs. As well as that it helped to get the special edition back in the day. Us players who have gotten the game in special "Chosen Edition" (There are other editions), We got a 2nd currency that would give us perks such as the Soldier skin or other skins. Instead when they rolled it back, They completely got rid of that. usually when game devs gets the game out of beta the people who paid the extra cash for the special editions, they get extra bonuses if they stuck around. Nope not us, we wasted 30+ dollars getting an edition we essentially didnt keep. And the game isnt that good anymore. Despite that what was the point getting the game back when it was $10 base price without special edition?
