About This Game

NETHER...IS...BACK! We have rolled back the game to Summer of 2014, when it first left Early Access and was still being developed by us, Phosphor Games Studio.

- Single Player enabled: It was not possible before, but now it's working, and it's hard! Have fun surviving the monster-filled urban apocalypse alone
- No more micro-transactions: all items can be bought with in game cash
- Multiplayer via player hosted servers! The old back end ripped out - no need for any login besides Steam. You control your community, and nobody can take your game from you again

- Custom server settings: you decided how many players, how many Nether, how much gun spawns, etc.
- Modding tools![/b]
- Bug fixes (including playing as a Nether, which was always pretty buggy

Nether is a fast-paced survival game that forces you to make quick life-saving decisions in an unforgiving environment. In this post-apocalyptic urban world, death is waiting around every corner, at the top of high-rise buildings, and in the grasp of powerful teleporting creatures known as 'Nethers'. These creatures and the other players are real challenges to overcome, requiring tactical gameplay, awareness, stealth, and cooperation. To navigate this high-tension environment, you must use skill and cunning in order to scavenge, trade, craft or loot for food, weapons, supplies, and other resources necessary to stay alive in a desolate and dangerous city. Team up with other survivors and take advantage of group play, as a tribe, to complete treacherous world objectives, or play as a lone wolf in an attempt to endure the hostile environment. In the end you must decide whether to Prey or Pray.

Key Features

The game's landscape is a beautifully conceived vision of a post apocalyptic Chicago, ravaged by disaster and time. Almost every low and high-rise building can be individually explored in a cityscape that stretches 150 blocks. Beyond the city lies the Wastelands, an unforgiving desolate landscape that is slowly sinking into the earth.

Start off, armed only with a kitchen knife and scavenge your way through an environment on a daily battle to stay alive. Beware the Nether, poor mutated souls who roam the city in search of human flesh. Scavenge for food and water to stay nourished, and search for useful items that could be crafted into makeshift weapons to help in your battle for life. Hunt and kill Nether to trade their body parts to the mysterious Cult located in the few markets that scatter the city. Over time, build up your skills and earn rewards for surviving each precious new day. But always beware of the other survivors who may be only one moment away from death, and see killing you and looting your possessions as their only salvation.

Find safety in numbers by joining a tribe. Only tribes can capture and own territory, and the urban landscape is the perfect setting for turf domination. Compete with rival tribes in territory wars for control of the city by capturing strategic landmarks to reap resources and experience; prove your dominance over all other tribes. Spy on rival tribes or infiltrate and kill them by playing as a Nether. Ambush them from above by swooping in for the kill using the wing suit. Tribes change the survival experience by establishing a true social construct, with all the consequences of behavior that you would expect in the real world. Your actions have real repercussions enforced organically through reputation and standing.

Players can complete an assortment of individual or group missions to earn money, experience and reputation. Perform vital supply runs between the markets, work with your tribe to take down the swarms of Nether lead by the vicious boss Reaper that sporadically surge to attack neighborhoods, or keep the creatures out of the Safezones by working in groups to repair the anti-nether devices when they fail.

Nether offers a wide variety of character customization and allows you to play as a male or female character. There is a huge selection of cosmetic items and player taunts to assert your individuality along with entire outfits to play roles like survivalist, soldier and biker - or even just play in your underwear.

  • Host your own private servers and control your settings and player population
  • First-person perspective creates a true survival experience
  • Meld of PvE (player versus environment) and PvP (player versus player) gameplay
  • New weapons and items become available as players explore the game world
  • Up to 64 players per game server
  • Single purchase, downloadable client allows full game access without subscription

I can only say that I was one of the people who bought this game at its full price only some time after it came out because I thought I saw potential. However, after this game had been ruined in the development process, I knew my hopes of a good, or at least decent game, had been dashed.

In its current state, which it is likely to remain in, I would have to slap a big NO on Nether for whoever wants to buy it. Please stay away if you want to spend your money on a game that is actually good.

After getting this game on the Steam Summer Sale and playing it for about 30 minutes, I have to say it's definitely got potential to be a fun play. I found a PVE server with about 20 ppl playing, even ran into one of them for a second in a safe zone. Despite reading negative review after negative review, I still think this game is worth at least a few hours of wandering around looting old beat up cars and trying to avoid the beastly nether monsters. The atmosphere is awesome and the graphics look better than in the trailer. Nether's silent & eerie post apocalyptic world begs to be explored. I keep finding myself running towards the next embankment to see what lies ahead every time.. might as well see there is.

If your friend ever suggests you try this really cool game that's in early access, DONT! Even if that early access game has a cool trailer.

"But wait this game is on sale, should I.." - NO

"But it sounds like I would really.." - NO

"But all my friends are playing it.." - Get new friends

I bought this game for full price but really even paying $1 for this would be too much.

I love this game i have only had it for a few days but iv played it through friends steam its amazing but i only wish that the entities were nerfed cause the do up too 300 damage per hit, and something to stop then entities to stop chasing you because iv heard of LOS (Line of Sight) being in the game but like ill get on to chase me and then break line of sight but it still knows where i am and just teleports at me.

Other then that would recommand and you dont needto pay for anything in game to have a good time

boy where do i start
this games got quite a history.
being passed from one dev team to another then back to the originals
originally it was on the fast track to being a good decent survival game
then they were forced to pass the torch to another dev team
from phosphor games, the original devs, to pure fps, another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dev team with a history of ♥♥♥♥ games
they turned this would be potential game into a ♥♥♥♥ game a fast cash p2w game

they released dlc and pretty much banned anyone who spoke out against them on the forums
hackers were and always are a problem for any early access game
but with them they pretty much flat out ignored the subject
they pretty much ran the community out since no one wants to be killed unfairly
throughout their reign they had constant game crashes as well as lagg spikes and just flat out connection issues which drove the other half of the community not runned out by hackers away

fastfoward, eventually they decide not to run any more official dedicated servers since they're losing money (surprise SUR♥♥♥♥INGPRISE). they closed down nether servers for the last time.

then when all seemed lost, phosphor, the old devs posted a message on the forums about being upset about the way the devs handled the game and eventually got the rights back
they added single player and player hosted servers as well as pve and admin controls.
since there are player runned servers most if not all hackers left were banned immediately.
some people came back
and things were all hunky dory.
they said they were gonna add stuff and try the best they could
even adding things to compensate for the people who bought premium versions of the game

however, unforunately they stopped at VR headset support

now the trail has gone cold and grown dark
they still interact in the forums and you can reach them

in several posts, however, they pretty much confessed that there were:
-few people working on it, pretty much just 1-3 people
-the people who were still working on them had other projects to do
-anything implemeneted, espeically map expansion on the current map is impossible and a lost caused. ITS ♥♥♥♥ED as the dev said
-progress is incredibly slow. i wouldnt blame them. with the old devs pretty much milking the game dry theres no money left in repairing the game

its still playable and theres servers that people run as well as you can make your own servers
but sadly, replay value is short
about 300 hours max
then you pretty much have done everything there is in the map
from killing reapers, which are basically the "boss" or sub bosses in game
to crafting or obtaining every weapon or cosmetic
taking part in all the events in game
and flat out exploring every part of the map
every single nook and cranny of it

also whatever community is left is a bunch of whinny cry babies who can't just let the game die in peace. to this day they keep bashing on it and trying to get some compensation from an early access game that flopped

still for atm 5 bucks, i'd say its a good walking simulator to play if youre on the road or anywhere where you're bored or dont have internet connection.

other than that i now highly do not recommend the game until they implement some sort of offical modding tools
which at the moment are the only thing that can save the game
as the community will take over
and they'll do much much more than just 1-3 people are trying to atm

I had bought this game some odd 2 years ago when it went on sale during Christmas time, and at the time it was genuinely enjoyable to run around with a couple friends and partake in both PvE and PvP. Unfortunately the game which had alot of promise lost it's original team working on it and everyone who owned the game had received no word as to what had happened until they hired the current team and this team has done less ♥♥♥♥ than the previous. No real updates to the game, unprofessional customer support, and my experience with it wasn't even that bad, I didn't have to go through a buggy launcher that worked little to none of the times, I didn't have to wait 7 ♥♥♥♥ing days upon purchasing the game to actually be able to play, and even through all the monumental amounts of ♥♥♥♥ the devs had given us with this game and then abandoning it like a dying puppy, I wanted to have hope that maybe they would give us something worthwhile to keep playing this game. Instead, they feel VR support was a more important feature than fixing the actual problems. This game had such great potential to be something extraordinary, just by being able to get in and looking at the small segment of the map we had available have hope for the vast open world and amazing content that could have been included in this game. I wish there was some glimmer of hope for this game, but the devs have seemed to stop caring about the players
3/10 was a great idea but they never took the time to really polish it

This is basically a game where you run around doing nothing for 20 minutes, wondering where the stuff in the trailer is, before uninstalling it and wondering why you wasted your time in the first place.

TL;DR: No. Whatever you are thinking, just no. "What if it's on sale?" NO! *slaps wallet out of hand*

Its sad to see this game go down. I liked it, I really did. But everyone knows nowadays how these sort of games play out. First come out in early access, get updates constantly along with tons of players everyday enjoying the game. Then comes all the money and slowly seeing updates come less frequent until the game is completely abandoned BUT still on the steam marketplace so they can reap the developers can take the money of this trusting community. The creepy feeling entering the subway system for the first time was genuine but the how cheated and stolen from i feel from this game (and not so genuine developers) has made me not too trusting of any seemingly legit independant developers.

In all honesty, this game was fun while people played it. However it seems lonely and feels the only reason they created a solo play is to keep the fan base from learning that people are stopping what their doing and getting rid of the game. This game had so much potential and i was under the impression it was only gonna get better after i got it. Sadly all they did was release another portion of the map and give up. They said ♥♥♥♥ the fans and moved on to something different i guess. I dont know i stopped caring about the devs when they let this game die.
