About This Game

Follow a gripping, surprise-filled journey as two dissimilar characters form an uneasy partnership in order to survive through a perilous, post-apocalyptic America.

150 years in the future, war and destruction have left the world in ruins with few humans remaining and nature having reclaimed the world. Mysterious slave ships harvest the dwindling population and take them out west, never to return.

Trip, a technologically savvy young woman has been imprisoned by a slave ship but manages to escape using her mental prowess. Monkey, a strong, brutish loner and fellow prisoner also gets free by virtue of his raw power and brawn. Trip quickly realizes that Monkey is her ticket to freedom and is her only hope to survive her perilous journey back home. She hacks a slave headband and fits it on Monkey, linking them together. If she dies, he dies and her journey has now become his. ENSLAVED centers on the complex relationship between the two main characters. Players take on the role of Monkey, utilizing a mix of combat, strategy and environmental traversal to ensure he and Trip survive the threats and obstacles that stand in the way of their freedom.

I was surpried by this "hidden gem"

Great visuals
Fun combat
Interesting Story
Great platforming
Interesting characters
Really fun boss fights, especially the last one.
Loved the snippet's of "memories"

The camera control's were a bit annoying at first but i got used to it.
The aiming sensitivity when shooting was really bad, had to max out the sensitivity.
Only goes to 1080p or 1200p, - Can Edit the files to get Higher.
Under 10 hours gameplay.

I would recommend if you like Platforming, fun combat and a interesting story.

This games awesome for a number of reasons,
+The environments are beautiful,
+ story is a big ole homage to "Monkey: Journey to the West" and they make that very clear (so don't go b!+*hing about it and claim this is a rip-off)
+With a gamepad its pretty smooth for platforming and the combats good, and gets progressively difficult in a good way.

But the one big pervasive issue with this game ... is that it's just painfully sexist. Hear me out.

Lets look at Monkey as a character- He's so strong that he can rip countless metal killing machines apart with his bare hands. He's so agile he can do crazy swinging flips and jump such enourmous gaps that even Nathan Drake might get jelous. And he's so level-headed that he stays calm in the craziest situations, he doesn't freak out or become spiteful .. he just deals with the problem he's faced with. Basically he's absolutely frikin awesome.

Now lets look at Trip. - Despite her phisique, She can't fight. At all. When a situation comes up, she just cowers and hides and leaves the male to deal with it. She can't jump a lot of gaps, so Monkey has to constanly deal with puzzles and enemies just to give her a smaller gap to cross. ...NOW can she cross tht gap herself?? Most often the answer is NO. So Monkey has to pick her up and CARRY her, or literally THROW her across the gap, or up to a ledge.
Oh and for most of this game she's either crying, acting irrationally or calling out for Monkeys help!!

So to me the biggest plot hole is the question "How did Trip possibly survive in this world for more than an hour without a macho male to take care of her???"

It would have been so easy to make Trip a badass, who can help Monkey out during (actual) combat, or maybe give her some unique skills and make her playable from time to time during areas that Monkey isn't suited to deal with.

I hate Trip. It would've been better if Trip was a straight up villian, enslaving Monkey coz shes evil. Instead shes a damsel in constant distress... and she enslaved monkey coz shes just awful and doesn't realize it.
....she is hot tho.

This game was on sale and I heard good things about it. Unfortunately it's a horrible console port. Absolutely disgraceful. The game lacks any sort of graphical configuration options. It's framerate capped by default. Key bindings don't stick and reset themselves after each cutscene. Sometimes they automatically map themselves to the same keys making simple actions impossible to complete. Controls are glithcy, the mouse acceleration is all over the place, camera angles switch constantly to the point of nausea. FOV is terrible and you'll get motion sick within minutes. Cutscenes are unskippable and the checkpoint system is so poorly implemented that you'll have to watch the same scenes and kill the same robots over and over again.

The gameplay is repetitive. Platforming sections are boring and unimaginative. The combat system is simplistic and not much more than button mashing. Fighting the same cartoonish robots becomes a chore very quickly. The story seems good and the voice acting is amazing. It's unfortunate that numerous technical issues and poor gameplay design make this game an exercise in frustration. I find it to annoying to finish.

Great game, and definitely worth picking up during the current sale. I keep hoping Ninja Theory will revisit this world with a larger advertising budget so it gets more of the hype it deserves. If you liked Heavenly Sword, you'll definitely like this.

+Interesting world
+Graphics are solid even though it's a bit of an older title
+Controls are smooth and easy to learn
+Unique abilities and character development / progression
+Not just a button masher, there's a good bit of platforming and exploring the world

-They decided not to make a sequel

Need some tweak for Extended graphics. I cant find the advanced setting option in Display settings where i can enable MSAA or FXAA. Use shift+Esc for pause menu. They forgot to mention that.

This is the sort of the game that will not win any game of the year awards, and yet, I still have a blast with it. The action is not deep, but it is just satisfying. The crunch and clanging of metal as you beat up mechs just sounds good. The little parts where you fly on your "cloud" are a blast.

The game also looks gorgeous. I have never seen a post-apopalyptic game look so damn colorful. The broken down New York is full of greens and reds. It also has a sense of humor, with only a total of 3 characters in the game. Do you want to spend 30+ on this? Probably not, but catch it on sale and you will have spent your money well.

Great game, lots of fun

After having read tons of reviews here on Steam I decided to give it a go and got it during one of the innumerable crazy-for-whatever-reason-on-steam-sales. Then it got stuck on my library for ages until I found the time to actually play it (which was the past week during autumn vacation) - and I loved almost every part of it. I'm not a fan of console ports and usually avoid them. This game was clearly designed with controllers in mind and when you fire it up, you get a nice welcome message remembering you "not to shut down the console, because this game saves automatically". PC gamer pride aside and some initial struggle playing with mouse & keyb I quickly fell in love with it. It's basically a sci-fi hack'n'slay with a nice plot and some AC badass climbing (with pre-fixed anchor points you can't miss mind you) in a Mad Max'isch environment. The characters are likeable though I lack the background information about the universe, the past of it, how everyone got where they are and who they are basically. Think of entering LOTR on the last chapter, where you figure the Ring is evil, you understand who's good and bad and you know it has to be destroyed - you just don't know how everyone got there.

  • The fights are fun though there aren't real combos
  • You have a series of finishing moves and one allows you to take a mech as shield or throw him
  • The environments change, you can take cover and figure out how to approach the next fight
  • Likable characters, though the girl is utterly vulnerable
  • Nice plot - probably part of a larger story
  • Extra: The pigsy plot line will add an extra story (though tiny) and different moves (grapple hook) with extra gadgets such as EMP's, friendly mechs, mines and decoy bombs once you have finished the main story. Pigsy, instead of Monkey, uses a sniper rifle and no hand-to-hand combat at all - so it's a different play

  • Nice plot - but lacks some sophisticated background story (I would have liked to understand more
  • Camera behaviour had me almost puke sometimes
  • At some spots it wasn't all clear how to proceed in the otherwise completely linear levels

I would recommend the game at any time. Despite some minor flaws it was just plain fun and diverse and never really felt repetitive. Though from a graphical perspective it doesn't live up to today's standards, it's an utter delight in colors and fireworks.

Short and sweet single-player game. The opening chapters and the final chapter are great. The middle chapters slump a bit the story is fairly well-paced overall.

Platforming is a little too low-risk, but the parkour animations are very well-done. Combat is not always very engaging, although there is a decent amount of offensive options (some combo attacks and ranged abilities and defensive options (evading and blocking with counter-attacks). Enemy variety is very low, there are maybe 5 types of enemy in the game, with a couple variants of each. Boss battles are straightforward but make for decent set-pieces and memorable story beats.

The areas where this game really shines is in art direction and characterization. The levels are gorgeous, full of bright greens and deep blues, and are very refreshing to look at. The characters are believable and the way that their personalities and relatonships develop over the course of the story is convincing and feels natural.

On the first look is this game just a fight-platformer with some RPG...
On the second look... this is a very good and interesing game. What makes it really better more than jumping / fighting is very good visuals and very interesting story.
... plus if You like giant machines, add some more point. :)
Personally what I like the most about this game are the "characters" moments. Some jokes were really cool!
