Quick Match? More like BugFIXED Match!

:^)

General
- Fixed Quick Match not submitting any new wins to the leaderboard ever, which I accidentally broke when I made it support 3/5 sets. (thanks BeizlFreiz!)

While looking at how to fix that bug, I found another one.

(I briefly considered just writing this bugfix as "Fixed a bug with score reporting on PC," but we're Lab Zero and we own our mistakes as well as our successes.)

THE FOLLOWING BUG WAS PC (WIN/MAC/LINUX) ONLY. IT DID NOT AFFECT ANY CONSOLES. Every version has different leaderboard code.
Disclaimer: I may not have written this code, but I did fix it! :^P
[deep breath]
- Fixed...a bug...with PC Quick Match score reporting...that has been present since the very first PC build...where the check for when to report scores to the leaderboard was
if(mWinningPlayer == 0)
instead of the correct
if(mWinningPlayer == myPlayerNumber)
...the end result being that if Player 1 won the game, both players would report a win for themselves. If Player 2 won, neither player would report a win. So the PC leaderboard currently reflects the number of times you played a Quick Match where Player 1 won the game, rather than the number of times you won. Heh?

AGAIN, THIS DID NOT APPLY TO CONSOLES. CONSOLE SCORE REPORTING IS FINE.

The game now correctly reports a win only for the player that won, all the time.

I'm not going to reset the leaderboards, though.
*G1antK1ngTurtlE* can keep the huge pile of bodies, even though some of them are illusory. :^)

It's some improvements!

Welcome to Some Improvement!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zbWLMvd_48
I said SOME! SOME!

General
- Quick Match now allows players to play up to 3/5 after the initial game finishes! Players can choose to exit after each game, but if you want that runback or feel the desire to defend your honor, mash dat Play Again button. (Thanks Liam and memes)

- If you're playing on a specific stage, instead of Random, choosing Play Again now continues the stage music instead of restarting it. You can finally hear the solo in NMO Arena! (Thanks Bang Camaro)
- When music continues between games, it only fades to 50% instead of silence. (Thanks POS Industries)

- The initial menu when launching the game with 2+ controllers/sticks plugged in has been improved: Player 1 no longer controls the main menu behind the controller-selection screen, and as long as someone has chosen to be Player 1, you are no longer required to ALSO choose a Player 2 before being allowed to proceed. (thanks a lot of people over multiple years)

(Title screen build ID 13984)

There's no rule that says I can't paste mostly the same patch notes from the Beta. NYAAAAH.

i know what everyone is going to say:
'you've only got 4 hours under your belt, you dont know the game blah blah blah'
well seeing as the steam description says: 'making the genre enjoyable and accessible to newcomers' my opinion should also be reccomened.

first, some basic pro's/cons:
pros:
-unique characters
-great art style
-jazzy soundtrack to fit the game
-inexpensive DLC (thank god)
thats about it
cons:
-newcomers to side scrollers NOT welcome
-infinite combo chains, getting to around 30 at least
-tutorial doesnt give a steady input to each character, instead gives you each character info at chapter 7
-story is boring, a literall 'tap enter' fest.
-over sexualised characters and (im seriously not kidding when a flashy nurse costume is someones DEFAULT gear)
-cutscenes, while they look pretty, are just pictures scrolling.
-only way to have fun is with a friend
-when a game gives a hitbox visible training option, you know your in for something.

now, onto the deeper look at the pro's/cons:
PROS
the characters are anything but your cookie cutter fighters. each has his or her own playstyle, so Parasol for the slower players, Ms.Fortune for the faster players and Peacock for the ranged people. i personally like painwheel for the combo strings and the cheesy backstory.
art style looks like an awesome web-comic or an ask blog, which gives a very good cartoony feel to some characters (like peacock) and adds to the macabre of others (like Valentine)
music is poppy and jazzy (ive always had a weak spot for that music)
DLC when on sale is around 50p and is usually a new character, while now-a-days you gotta pay £5+

CONS:
this aint street fighter or mortal kombat. well, if you took street fighter and made it 10X harder because cetain staples of a good side scrolling fighter are missing, you got skullgirls. this game, as said before, states that it is 'making the genre enjoyable and accessable to newcomers'. this does not do that in any way. instead, it SHOULD say: 'new to these type of games? if so, dont touch this.'

the issue of 'infinite combo chains' has always been in games like this, and has been easy to fix: just make the opponent invulnerable after a certain number or tweak the hitboxes for the spammable combo's to make them non-spammy. this, however, is next to none, and if you mess up 1 time in a match you might as well quit. ive been literally locked into combo's which have hit 30 hits or more and i can do next to nothing about it. in the air? no type of dodging or block if your hit. on the ground? better have frame perfect precision. and, i know this game was made in 2013, but its recent update was on the 25th of june. 5 DAYS AGO. get your shizz together.

the tutorial seems ok, but the fact that it doesnt introduce the roster until chapter 7 bugs me. introduce them after the basics for god sakes! movement, attacking, blocking, throwing, specials, characters. NOT everything in the game that you can do THEN characters.

story. only one's i have played is painwheel, peacock and parasol. painwheels was delightfully cheesy, and i found it honestly funny when she fought herself in her head. peacock was a genetic experiment. parasol is some cop lady. literally all i got from the tap Z fest of the cutscenes. they had a budget to use fully animated sprites in the majority of the game so why not in the cutscenes?! at least then you'd have something to look at.

speaking of something to look at, the over, sexualization of most the characters. biggest and most obvious ones are Valentine (a nurse with more jiggle physics than beach volleyball games) and parasol (who is apparantly too poor to buy a longer jumper. literally panty shot in most moves). this is not apparant in characters like parasol, painwheel, ms. fortune (who is the only loveable character there due to her comical 'om nom nom' move) but characters like cerebella and filia are still sexualised, cerebella wearing a bottom of boobs only top and is continuously hunched foreward and filia's down middle kick move in a SERIOUSLY provocative manner. now im not complaining about this to the point of 'NO BOOBS! NO SEXY! ALL FULL CLAD IN CLOTHING!' in fact im the opposite: if a character is supposed to seem flirty, thats ok. but it seems as if the developers took a little TOO long on the jiggle physics, nudge nudge.

go online, get ♥♥♥ whooped by a 50-80 long combo streak. get up, it happens again, rinse an repeat. only way to have fun is with a friend. nuff said.

finally, if the negative reviews are coming from people with less than 30 hours in the game, yet posative reviews are coming from people with 100+ hours and your game says its for newcomers and veterans, theres something wrong.

ps.i played with a friend. me painwheel, he peacock. i used combo's. he buttonmashed. i only JUST won by a single match. GG skills, GG.

If you like Street Fighter and Marvel Vs. Capcom, this is for sure the game for you.

There's some huge combos you can pull off with tag teams, not a whole lot of characters, but it's more than bearable with the memorable characters, and it even has some cool ♥♥♥ art made by fans.

So, it's not too late to get this damn good 2D fighting game.

Skullgirls is a game where you learn how to really play fighting games. Don't train by playing those fighting games that allow infinite combos as thats just easy as remembering the combo and repeat it all over. Skullgirls prevents you from doing that opening you up more choices to do when your combo gets denied. I really recommend this game.

This is the game that got me into fighting games. It has an amazing tutorial explaining the mechanics of the game and fighting games in general, there is a very well made Infinite prevention system combined with a system to prevent Touch of Death combos. The inputs are very forgiving, to the point where I can do the 360 motion on a keyboard. Plus, all the characters feel unique, including Fukua (A joke character made as a half April Fool's joke half shot at Capcom's Decapre reveal who the players liked so much she was made a permanent addition to the cast). Going beyond the mechanics, the game is amazing to look at, with every frame of animation in the game being hand-drawn, and there are a TON of frames in this game. The only downside is the online, but not because of the netcode (The netcode is pretty damn good, you only really have problems if your ping is 200+). I am going to be blunt, this is the kind of game you only play quick match on if you REALLY know what you are doing. Still, for $10(Originally $15) to start off and another $10 for all the DLC characters (Who were free for the first 3 months after their release, so Lab Zero was still taking a pretty big hit to their wallets after releasing them, all things considered), there are far worse titles on this platform you could buy and play with your friends.

Skullgirls is a fantastic fighting game, with an intricate input list and an overpowering amount of combos that would make "Super Smash Bros." jealous.

For the people who use the keyboard, I commend you. For others (Like myself) take advantage of the partial controller support. Your gonna need it.

This game is one of the best if not the best fighting game since a few years.
Its fighting system succeed at being both simple, accessible, and quite deep for the seasoned fighter. Both your spammy little sister and your kof fanatic friend will find what they need to have fun.

Speaking of new player, this game also feature an extensive tutorial and training mode, it will teach anyone how to go from just spamming punch to actually combo in a smart way.

The art style is definitly a strong point of this game, it is beautiful, the animation are both detailled and fluid, the stage are full of life, every character and even background filler npc have is own personality. trully a work of art.

This game is not without default, the story mode is quite monotonous, and finish with one of those unfair and unfun boss. (Honestly, Jinpachi was more fun than Marie). The scenario itself coud definitly be a good story, specially since it know when to joke, and when to be dramatic. But, for most character it is quite empty.
