Developers update!

July 5th, 2014

Welcome to our developers update for Men of War: Assault Squad 2.

It's time to talk about the upcoming upgrades and new features we have been working on!

One of these features is a new Game Statistics screen that will give you access to valuable information about your last online match. The Unit tab for instance will display the purchase log of every player, be it friend or foe. This way you can study the strategy of your teammates/opponents and how wisely they spent their resources!

We also improved the Player Profile screen and added a new tab called Compare. This tab will allow you to compare yourself with friends or to study the leaderboard and to compare yourself with others on one screen.

We have also been re-designing the singleplayer menu. Now you can select all missions right off the start and the game will show you a preview of each mission as well as your achievements progress. To improve mod support and small screen resolutions, the mission list has now a scrolling functionality.

To further improve mod support, we have also been re-designing the Workshop tab to make it easier for you to subscribe and manage mods. The game does not even need a restart to apply mods you have just finished downloading.

Performance improvements have also been done in regards of the shadows with the help of Intel. We also added an ultra shadow setting to get the most out of high end hardware.

We think most of these features will be ready for you later next week and we are also working on improving Steam multiplayer and match-making. We hope to have news for you in this regard soon.

In the meantime happy gaming and thanks for your support! ːhonorː

“If you haven’t played Men Of War before, then this is a rich and rewarding place to start. And you really should play something in this series if you have the faintest whiff of interest in RTS, because it is one of the great masterworks. To not play it is to waste your life.”

“With a substantial graphical upgrade, a bunch of new units and a fleshed out multiplayer component (as well as skirmishes, finally), every fan is bound to get hours upon hours of fun, visceral and emergent gameplay. In case you haven't had contact with an Assault Squad game and you're an RTS gamer, you will not be disappointed. That's a recommendation right there.”

“Accidentally discovering something awesome will soon become a four-word summary of my time with Assault Squad 2. [...] I love Assault Squad 2, but it was not an easy romance. Its brutal difficulty spikes and hands-off approach to training should serve as a warning to all but the most grizzled of armchair generals: this game is war, and war is hell.”

Since I have been lucky enough to acquire early acess to the Beta of it and have logged over 200 hours on the 1st Assault Squad I figure ive earned some right to comment on this upcoming release. I have to say that I am having very few graphical issues, only one instance where i can remember a serious shader error but it was easily fixed by minimizing the game and re opening it. The graphics do look very nice and there are several small details i appreciate like the ejecting shell and the smoke from the breech of the cannon and other small things that added to the whole. The gameplay is just as good as the first Assault Squad and ive played 3 matches so far and 2 of them had good frame rates and all while one was bad but hey 2:3 isnt to bad especially for pre-release. There is still the fun 3rd person mode and all the other things that make men of war the amazing RTS it is. I would certinly reccomend this game to any fan of the men of war series and really to anyone who enjoys RTS's or stratagy games in general.

Assault Squad 2, the true successor to the amazing first title, is the embodiment of a true WW2 RTS. The in depth armour system and weapon mechanics are complimented by fantastic graphics that are pleasing to the eye as well as improved UI from the previous Assault squad title. Although the current beta is a bit chunky i have the utmost faith in the developers at Digital Mindsoft to continue the fantastic legacy brought by the first title.

The gameplay is in-depth, the setting and units accurate, the gradual increase to the scale of warfare presented in a skirmish or Multiplayer competitive matchup is a welcome test of one’s foresight and planning as more often than not the crucial moment of victory will not come in one distinct period of the game. The ability of this game to allow a player to exploit an opponent’s flaws in defence or his ability to capitalise on his own armoured or support advantage is astounding. A player may use a series of approaches to try and obtain victory, and the games can end up insanely close as players scramble and crawl their way to victory. Nothing beats the feeling of outwitting your opponents and somehow pulling a victory out of thin air.

If you seek a game that compares to company of heroes you must look elsewhere as both titles have their own distinct style of gameplay. If you want an in-depth somewhat realistic WW2 RTS with stunning gameplay, good graphics and a stellar community look no further. All elements of the game compliment your experience to make for one of the best, if not the best WW2 RTS games in today’s market, and i hope that if you choose to purchase this title, that you will enjoy it as much as i have.

Great game , beats the crap out of CoH. Direct control is great & everything is alot more realistic than in CoH . Graphics are amazing and detailed, gameplay is fun & challenging. Skirmish with friends is great timesink and offers replay value just like multiplayer.

After they iron out some of the bugs / crashes / fps issues this will be 10/10

Let me first start off with saying that I do enjoy this game, however in its current state of balance I can not in good heart recommend it to someone at its price. The missions range from ridiculously easy, to impossible, I'll explain this more later in the review.

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 follows in the traditional RTS style of games but decides to add a lot more complexity into the mix. From managing the inventory of EVERY SINGLE UNIT down to keeping your tanks fueled and with plenty of ammunition. The game is a good lot of fun, if not hair pullingly difficult. To put it simply, the singleplayer campaign/scenarios are nothing short of suicide on anything above normal.

So the game is fun, but flawed in that aspect, that a mission shouldn't be impossible on the highest difficulty but just difficult. This game sadly doesn't do this. The highest difficulty being Heroic creates an impossible scenario to complete on defense missions for example. Where a motley group of 2 or 3 tanks, at guns, and squads of two man groups of infantry must hold out against an armada of vastly superior tanks.

This was my experience in the Leningrad mission for example, the historical accuracy of these tanks are top notch, they perform like they actually did, and this is a problem for the Soviets seeing as you don't get nearly as many tanks as the Germans in this mission. The end result for me was actually beating it on Hard by the skin of my teeth thanks to some suicidal Russian URAAAAA charges with dynamite in the mix.

The only way to do these missions is with a friend, and I'll be honest, that seems a bit unfair for those who want a challenge. Easy is a guranteed win, Normal is barely a challenge, Hard is nigh impossible, Heroic you're guranteed to fail without a friend.

So some balancing is in some order, wait till you hear some better things about it, because as of now its just not plausible.
