Assetto Corsa update 1.2 + Bonus Pack available!

The new build 1.2 of Assetto Corsa is available for all users on Steam, at the URL
http://store.steampowered.com/app/244210/. The new version provides a considerable update and adds five new cars and one circuit as free bonus content. The free bonus pack does not introduce only new content but, more importantly, new features and sensible improvements, in all sectors: artificial intelligence, physics, multiplayer features, graphics and general performance.
The changelog lists all the updates, fixes and modifications applied to the new build of Assetto Corsa, that now is even more stable, and includes new physics algorithms regarding the tyre model, force feedback and artificial intelligence.
Here is a description of the main areas of fixes, content and features included in the Assetto Corsa v.1.2 update:

General
The updates related to the physics engine and force feedback allows to appreciate even more the new cars included in the bonus pack and rediscover the old ones, since all the previous and existing content available in Assetto Corsa have been updated to take advantage of the latest improvements. Some graphics glitches known since the 1.0 version have been fixed: motion blur feature now works properly on any circuit, tyres “glued” to the road in multiplayer have been corrected, and two new features have been added for the driving view: now the dedicated app allows to find automatically the proper eye position, showing also a visual indication for suggested eyes position and actual eye position for Driver Eyes, in order to help gamers to find the correct match, if they desire to set it manually. All content has been updated in order to set a better driving view position with any car. Also, the limits from Driver Eyes Positioning app have been removed, in order to allow players with dedicated rigs or cockpits, free to set their prefered driving view. A huge operation of fine-tuning has involved all the car values, including lods, instrumentation, 2D/3D details, skins, and so on. Furthermore, continuing the general process of improvement, the game now features glowing brakes for high performance and racing cars.

Physics
Differential were updated with the latest electronic wizardry in order to simulate the intricate torque vectoring system at the base of the Nissan GTR incredible handling. Tyre model was also improved by refining the pneumatic trail math model to generate a more self aligning torque, together with improved relaxation length model it will now feature a much smoother ride and more consistent steer feedback.

Artificial intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is sensibly improved both by making it closer to humans performance in corner exit and in general race craft during the race; AI is now able to choose the proper tyre compound for a given session, better handle turbo strategy during qualify and race, improved DRS usage. Driving lines have been improved, as well as the ability of AI drivers to overtake each other and the player. Now they are more aggressive, and they take advantage of any mistake to take your position.

Multiplayer
The update of multiplayer is the result of the feedback received by the community, that asked for more stability and better tools for a more consistent multiplayer experience and leagues organization.
Amongst the various bug fixes included in this update, like the corrected checksum for circuits that use the new configuration system, better collision samples triggering, tyres that properly jump together with the car and so on, we also get some brand new and highly requested features.

We now offer you the possibility to limit the tyre choice, weather settings on the server side, lock of new players joining races, complete last lap in qualify and practice, add ballast for players and much more. Even more importantly a new complete server side UDP plugin for real time data input/output has been implemented. This particular feature will be of great help to all the league organizers and could bring very important developments in AC multiplayer in the near future.

New content
Regarding the selection of the new cars, the Alfa Romeo Mito Quadrifoglio Verde joins the fight versus the 500 Abarth EsseEsse and can also teach a thing or two against some older RWD machinery; the Audi Quattro is a legendary car so loved by car enthusiasts. The Audi had over 300bhp and 4 wheel drive in the mid 80s. A tuned step1 version with locked differentials and more power has been added to satisfy the hardcore car enthusiasts! The Lamborghini Miura SV is the first Lamborghini model officially added in Assetto Corsa. It defined the term supercar back in the 60s and now we give you the opportunity to drive this million value piece of car history. The Toyota GT86 is a very balanced car, and for this reason, maybe is one of the most wanted model included in the new package. This car has been developed in
cooperation with RSR Nurburg, that knows each single secret of this modern hachi-roku (eighty six), a car that makes every car enthusiast yell with excitement and every tyre tremble with fear. The Nissan GT-R Nismo introduces in Assetto Corsa the active central differential and it's the second 4WD car now available after the Alfa Romeo 155 DTM.

The Circuit of Zandvoort, a well-known motorsport race track located in the dunes north of Zandvoort, Netherlands, is the latest addition of the new build: the circuit gained popularity because of its fast, sweeping corners such as Scheivlak as well as the "Tarzanbocht" (Tarzan corner) hairpin at the end of the start/finish straight. Tarzanbocht is the most famous corner in the circuit. Since there is a camber in the corner, it provides excellent overtaking opportunities. It is possible to pass around the outside as well as the easier inside lane.

Best racing sim ever.

- Fantastic GFX, reflections, smoke etc etc
- Cars look amazing
- Engine sounds that actually get under your skin
- Superb G27 support
- Native tripple screen support and track IR
- All cars FEEL like actual cars
- Great tracks
- Well optimised (apart from the smoke ;))
- Decent multiplayer track days and events

I've been playing AC for a while and it has been my go-to game for that racing buzz on the G27. No other game comes close in terms of making you feel that you are part of the car and giving you that racing buzz.

My favorite racer for some time was GTR2, but it was getting a little old and tired in the looks department and it's feel. I've got a ton of racing games on various platforms and it is safe to say that AC has the best feel hands down of any.

Step into the legendary 98T lotus as an example, up the boost, watch the engine strain, hear the tyres screeth and feel your car squirm as the boost comes in and you fight to keep the car facing forwards on the track, whilst meanwhile that beast of an engine sound is giving you a rush. Limit the boost to save the engine, fly into a corner too hot, try to take someone on the outside and up the boost again trying to outdrag them as you fly past and look to the left screen seeing the engine flashing red and them dropping back in your mirrors - you know you are pushing it hard and the engine won't last like that forever!

Honest this game is a credit to the developers, and for anyone who thinks it doesn't have enough cars or tracks, this game is all about quality and not quantity.

Now they have added the Yellowbird it is a fantastic addition. Such a tailhappy fun beast of a car to drive and drift around in.

You've got your sporty production cars, tail-happy beasts such as the mighty Cobra, and limited production cars / race cars. All of the sounds are unique and the charteristics of each car make it a different game with each car you step into.

Absolutely spot on, and worth it for anyone who is into their racing sims.

It's worth noting that if you want to push the visuals on multi screen setups you do need a fairly hefty system though. I am running an I7 4770k under water and two GTX 780TI AMP's. I can max everything out apart from the hi-res mirror reflections and smoke needs to be turned down. I would imagine for a single screen though that somehting like one 780 would be plenty.

Assetto Corsa is a realistic racing simulation game developed by Kunos Simulazioni. In Assetto Corsa you get behind the wheel of one of many realistically recreated cars ranging from the little Abarth 500 (upgraded version of the Fiat 500) to the beast that is the Pagani Zonda R. You'll push these cars to their limits as your storm around the tracks this game has to offer including the legendary Nurburgring (part of the Dream DLC Pack 1).

Before I get to the main part of my review I want to point a few things out which have had an impact on my opinion of the game. Firstly, I'm not a racing sim expert, far from it in fact, most of my racing experience comes from the arcadey side of the genre so I'm less used to the level of realism found in AC. Secondly, I played using an Xbox 360 Gamepad rather than a wheel and pedals since I don't own a wheel. Thirdly, I own the Dream DLC Pack 1 so my review will include things only available as part of the DLC. Finally, I haven't followed the game through it's development and I've only played the most recent version which is v1.1.6.

+Good graphics and visual effects
+A good selection of cars which are all well modeled
+A good variety of tracks including a laser-scanned Nurburgring
+Quite a lot to do, including: drag races, solo track practices, time trial events, race weekends a career mode and much more
+Surprisingly good controls for a Gamepad
+A fair amount of customisation options for the cars in regards to tuning and paint jobs
+Great sound effects for the cars
+All of the cars, even different versions of the same car (e.g. a production model and a GT model), feel very different which makes driving each one unique to driving the others
+It's very easy to get into for beginners like myself
+A huge amount of mods
+Lots of info displays which you can choose to use when racing
+Despite AC being out of Early Access, Kunos are planning to continue adding more and more content to the game which can never be a bad thing
+AC supports Oculus as well as three monitor setups, while I personally don't make use of these I know they're important features for a lot of people
+Reasonably quick load times

+/-Penalties feel a little too harsh to me but perhaps that's just because I'm not a racing sim buff

-The AI are pretty bad, they seem to have a path which they absolutely have to take and don't feel at all like they're actual drivers which is what you would expect from a racing game. On top of this they're also very 'timid' when it comes to overtaking and unless you go off the track chances are they'll just stay behind you for the rest of the race
-While you can change the time of DAY that your race takes place at there's no night time in the game which is rather disappointing
-Weather effects go no further than clear skies, clouds of fog so there's no rain which is again, rather disappointing
-The soft-body physics is really bad, doesn't look at all realistic, for example driving 150mp/h into a solid wall left my bumper with some small dents and scratches
-The controls which can be bound to the Gamepad are very limited, for example you can't bind pause to your Gamepad so you have to reach over to the Esc key every time you want to pause which gets frustrating very quickly
-The mouse cursor is always visible on screen, one my biggest pet peevs

Verdict:
For regular gamers - Worth Purchasing (8/10)

For Racing sim veterans - A Must Have (8.5/10)

A fantastic racing sim which can be enjoyed by those new to racing sims as well as veterans of the genre, though it's far from flawless. If you have any interest in racing games I suggest you pick this one up.

Very realistic physics, the best simulation in the last few years. The graphics is very good but not top notch. For those looking for a real simulation.
I recommend, worth every penny!

Good game if you are willing to mod it, as alot of features seem to be missing.

I like to think that maybe in a year the game will be finished and as promised and be as good as this game could be.

But at the moment it seems that the Devs have rushed the game out of early access so they could start work on DLC the "Dream car pack for example" Keep in mind there isnt many cars in the game to begin with (Alot of the same car with small changes) Keep in mind the cars in game are very VERY well made but i fell they sould have added atleast a few more types and models before making a car pack DLC.

Also please fix the race starts (Especially the Drag race start) A normal drag race tree light will start at red, then go red once more then 1, 2, 3 ,4 gold lights light up one after the other then green GO!, so if you are a good drag racer you can time your launch correctly but in the game it goes Red... Yellow... yellow... yellow... Green... Wait.... Wait.... Wait.... wait.... Wait...... Go. Its more of a guessing game i'm not even sure if the wait after the Green light is even the same every time it feels random and waiting 4 seconds after Green just makes no sence.

Overall good game especially for Drifting (only really two cars for drifiting.. No silvias.. I know right?! a Drifting mode but not Silvia? blasphemy!) Just feels like it needed more content before taking it off of Early Access.

11/10 - IGN Skyrim with wheels.
