About This Game

Betrayer is a first person action adventure game that takes you to the New World at the turn of the 17th century.

The year is 1604. You sailed from England expecting to join a struggling colony on the coast of Virginia. Instead, you find only ghosts and mysteries. What catastrophe blighted the land and drained it of color and life? Where are the settlers and tribes who lived here?

Clue by clue, you must piece together the story of what befell this doomed settlement and find a way to set things right. You will be hunted by corrupted Conquistadors and ravening shadows as you explore an expansive wilderness in order to trace the brief, tragic history of the colony and search for survivors.

Key Features

  • Explore large, open environments teeming with danger and discovery. Chart your own course in search of clues and treasures.
  • Switch between two distinct worlds featuring different enemies, obstacles, and threats.
  • Wield early 17th century weaponry including muskets, bows, crossbows, and tomahawks. Upgrade your arsenal by purchasing or finding faster, deadlier, longer-ranged weapons.
  • Charge headlong into battle with guns blazing or pick enemies off quietly. A novel, movement-based stealth system lets you hide in plain sight or use the wind to mask your footsteps.
  • Equip ability-enhancing Charms to complement your play style, granting anything from extra health to faster movement to improved stealth.
  • Play with the default visual style for maximum eeriness and tension or customize the color and contrast settings to suit your tastes.

Very eerie atmosphere.
Areas are completely open.
Interesting mystery to solve.
Scary twist.
Weapon variety and mechanics are good.
Alternate equipment options are very well thought out, useful and add to the game play.
You can rambo, steath it, mix it up. Anything goes and encounters are exciting and fun!
Price is so low for what you get.

Enemy variety could be better.
Nothing is voice acted, allot of reading.
Replay value is limited.

Totally recommend. Would love to see what the devs would do with a big budget. This is a great game from start to finish. It sucks you in at the very beginning and doesn't let go. I would have payed more then $5 for this game after having played it.

I long-bowed with 2x pistols, first play though very fun!

Definitely a Thumbs Up for Betrayer! I've played through it twice - once when it was released & again 2016 for the 100% Achievements, and both times I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I don't say this lightly - THIS GAME IS UNIQUE. I don't think I've played anything that I can compare it to, and that is a GREAT thing. It's fresh. The story is interesting & sooo twisted - (spoiler - it seems the natives were the only 'good guys') LOL. ALSO, the game was creepy as H3LL when going over a map after ringing the bell. I'm not a run 'n gun player, so I just eased around slowly & stealth killed most of the bad stuff. Fav moment was coming across a hunting party of 10 natives in the woods & dropping them 1 by 1 without the others ever getting a clue - Nice! (Also, to take out all the Thieves, I'd recommend stealthing it up - they're too quick otherwise). You'll have an interesting assortment of primitive weapons to choose from and different ability combos with the charms you find, too. I went for Health, Stealth, & Speed, and felt bullet-proof <grin>.

So, Betrayer is a memorable game and time well spent. It was absolutely worth the originall selling price, and now it's a steal at $5 or lower sales. Try it - I think you'll like it. Cheers

Oh well, what can I say? This game was one of the many I have on my backlog, and I would not have thought it would stand out from the rest. I was wrong. Playing at max settings and with good surround headphones I got completely immersed in its world. Stealth mechanics are not explained properly in game, so I had to check online to know exactly how it worked. After that, the experience became from good, to magnificent. If you like to take your time in games to watch at the scenery, feel complete immersion, read and learn about mysterious lore and plots, and investigate areas, then this game is for you.
You can also play stealthy or just face on the enemies. The accessories you can use make your build be either stealthy, or action wise so it catters to both audiences. For me, when I became bored of sneaking, I just faced the enemies head on. I played the game on medium difficulty, and I can say I found it a bit hard if you dont know what you are doing. Since I like to challenge myself in games, I loved the difficulties.

If you see this game not getting too good reviews online, that is because the game lacked many features and options when it was first released. This game has been through many patches, and the experience I got was of a complete game with almost everything I wanted it to have. The devs really listened to the fans, and polish the game super neat.

You can stealth it, or run and gun. Either way, it was so much fun.
And the story is incredible.

A desperately artsy survival horror that ends up being neither survival nor horror, but rather a depressing graveyard of unrefined ideas.

Around 90% of the time you'll spend slogging through the forest from one map marker to another fetching assorted junk to read some bland 17th century felony reports as a reward and then backtracking for more markers until the plot decides to just drop it at some point and roll out the credits.

The other 10% is dedicated to awkwardly paced abrupt combat encounters, most of which are all about slowly kiting around in the open or side-stepping behind a tree and hoping for the best, while trying to use a severely limited assortment of unwieldy “realistic” killing tools against small groups and waves of repetitive enemies with Diabloesque AI, dodgy unpredictable hitboxes and rng-based deflections.

There is a rather rudimentary stealth system to serve as an alternative, but in practice it is only applicable to make your gameplay time 3-4 times longer than it has to be, while in most really challenging encounters where a stealthy approach would be desirable the combat is script-forced on you anyway.

Overall while being an obviously budget-crippled and mechanistic but passable and at some points rather enjoyable and suspenseful experience Betrayer is very hard to recommend gameplay-wise. Especially so since its plot is pretty hard to get invested in while both the protagonist and the Maiden in Red have all the personality of a windows system cursor and a 90’s chat bot.

Far Cry meets Silent Hill in 1600's America. Really unique game, black and white with just the enemies and certain important things in red. Worth a shot, especially if you get it in a bundle.

Game is pretty clean looking and runs like a dream. Well worth the price and more than what it offers. The gameplay is pretty unique. Cudos to the Devs for this one.

I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this game. I feel like this art style of everything being gray is kind of cool and kind of annoying at the same time. It feels really lack luster. For 5 bucks it's definitely worth picking up, it's worth a few hours of fun at least.

Betrayer is a first person adventure game mainly in black, white, and red which sets in 17th century. You'll arrive in a land lacking of people and you'll have to find out what happened in that place. Although the game starts in black, white, and red, it can be adjusted to color, although imo, it's easier to play it in default color.

This game's bgm gives off eerie vibe with some environmental sfxs such as rustling grass and breezing winds. Some sfxs can surprise you with its sudden noise, especially when it's combined with the eerie graphics. Personally, i think that this game's music is one of the best part of the game.

Although the game doesn't have an AAA style graphics, the black, white, and red color gives of an eerie atmosphere perfectly. However, i have to admit that the graphics look weird after you change the default color to a more colorful setting. The in game text might be quite small, although it's still readable.

The game has a separate story in each area, although the story in the last few areas stay connected with each other. The game mainly tells about betrayals which are done by the people living in the area, which are resulting in death. There are also some clues which are written in a piece of paper about anything that happened in the area. This game doesn't have a fixed ending which makes you to have to interpret the ending and some part of the story by yourself.

The game
You'll arrive in a land with no people and all you have in your hand is a bow. The game will start teaching you a few controls, although it missed some controls, such as the sniper mode which is initiated with right click. Although the game teaches you some of the game controls, i ended up forgetting most of it.

You can do stealth kills in this game which can be either done from close or afar. There are some items which can help you to not getting noticed by your enemies and there is also a wind which will help you to blend in with the surroundings.

In this game, you'll mainly collect some things in the area and kill some enemies. Most of the area requires you to do the same thing which can make the game quite boring.

The game environment is very gloom and dark, which sometimes can surprise you when something shows out of nowhere. The battle sfx can also surprise you, although you'll get used with it in no time.

Because you'll mainly use long ranged weapons in this game, ammos can be quite costly. I didn't know that you can get some ammo by dying, which will help me to upgrade my weapon instead of spending the cash for ammo. Some of the ammo that you are using will also remains the area, although sometimes the ammo will stuck in some places which makes you have to rebuy the ammo.

I experienced some frame skips in this game. It's quite annoying, especially when you want to snipe the enemies from afar. The mouse also runs slowly and i'll get more frame skips if i try to make it faster. The game also loads very slowly when it's transitioning from and to areas. The game lags after i'm alt tabbing and it will be not responding if i'm alt tabbing for too long. The weapon can also fire randomly by itself when you change maps.

There are 5 kinds of weapons in the game, which are crossbows, shortbows, longbows, guns, and muskets. All of them have their own strengths and weaknesses which can be covered with charms, tomahawk (mid range single targeted weapon), explosives (mid range area targeted weapon), and melee attacks (which is mainly used for stealth kills). The charms can give you some buffs, such as health boost and movement speed boost. There are 3 unique weapons for each type of weapons which can be considered as ultimate weapons. All of them has different stats which can be chosen based on your play types.

This game is focused on two worlds, this world and the other world, where the spirits resides. You'll have to travel between both worlds to uncover the mystery in the land you are in.

Lastly, you can adjust this game difficulty with 3 difficulty settings in the options, with normal being the default.

- 5 different type of weapons
- 15 unique weapons
- 3 difficulty settings
- Great atmosphere

- You'll do almost the same thing in every maps
- Frame skips
- Loads very slow

This is a thriller adventure game where you have to find clues about what happened on the land you are in. There are no jumpscares, but the sfxs can surprise you.

Should you buy this game?
I actually want to recommend this game, but this game has nothing to offer besides the eerie atmosphere. Although the story might be interesting, the game play doesn't really satisfy me very much. You can get boring after you traverse through several areas because you have to do the same thing in each area. The technical issues i'm experiencing also gives another reason for that.

However, if you want to play a thriller game with no jumpscares in it, buy this game.
