About This Content

Disharmony brings a brand new experience to Endless Space players. A new faction with a unique play style, “The Harmony”, will make its appearance. Battles will be even more intense with the addition of fighters and bombers, battle formations, a new targeting system, a redesigned weapon system and enhanced invasion mechanics. The AI opponents will be significantly more unpredictable with the implementation of the new ‘Adaptive Multi-Agent System’. Prepare your empire for epic space battles!


The Harmony had been moving since the birth of the universe, passing through the galaxies, seeking The Core. Their migration was deliberate, calm, inevitable.

Dust was their downfall. In the galaxy of the Endless they were ensnared; this strange technological creation that affected particles, fields and waves broke the single movement of the Harmony into a cacophony of gravity-enchained individuals. The Harmony sees Dust as a menace or a plague, and has set out to rid the universe of its effects.

For the rest of the galaxy, this cleansing is a minor apocalypse. The Harmony, creatures of mineral, see no difference between "inhabited" and "uninhabited" planets -- they are simply "infected" or "clean." And those that are infected will be dealt with ruthlessly…

The Era of Disharmony has begun!

This was previously posted as a review under the Endless Space - Emperor Edition. Oops.

First of all, I'm writing this as I listen to the ES soundtrack which comes with the Emperor Edition. Really enjoy it. As for the game, well...

I downloaded the two Amplitude titles, Endless Space (Emperor, with Disharmony, etc) and Endless Legend at the same time. Started playing EL first. And it's a good way to learn the Amplitude FIDS system (Food, Industry, Dust, Science). Dust = money in the Endless worlds. It introduces the world of the Endless, Auriga, which makes an appearance in ES Disharmony. Disharmony is what I'll review here; it's newer, better and has a faction you may want.

- Good looking game.
- Great sounding game.
- Fairly flawless play system (a couple of hangs in 80 hours, I can live w/that).
- Enough factions and options to make almost any custom setup you want. And you WILL want a custom faction if you play this for very long. A bunch of galaxy styles? Yes, please. Random galaxy and system events keep things non-linear early, as do, uh, pirates. Yeah, pirates.
- Disharmony has tie-ins to the Endless Legend game, so if you have played that, it feels more complete. Auriga, the Vaulters, probably a few other aspects I've missed. No pushy super-diplomats like the Drakken in EL, thankfully.
- If you miss the old MOO games, this should fit the bill.

- In comparison with other 4x games, space and flatland both, this is probably the most aggressive universe I've played. Factions will go from Peace to War in not so many turns, if they think you can be taken on the battlefield. The result is a flurry of early shipbuilding by everybody, including the player if they want to get past 50 turns in w/o a war. No leisurely stroll through the stars here while you throw upgrade after upgrade onto your planets.
- Because of that, I have a hard time believing some victory conditions are doable. Namely the diplomatic victory. And diplomacy is fairly flavorless.
- The tech tree takes several playthroughs to understand to full advantage. And the tree in Disharmony is different from the one in the base ES game.
- I wouldn't say the AI cheats, but even on Normal difficulty, there is a noticeable difference in the nearby planets the player gets vs the AIs.
- Certain features are left either to accidental discovery or forum browsing to find out about (Ctrl-RightClick for fleet warp movement is one).
- Fleet management. Easy to add ships to a fleet, but to pull one or two out, seems like you have to select Disband and then put the fleet back together.

To win: So far, all I've won is a couple of games on Scientific Victory, with a custom faction based on the Vaulters; they have a jump/portal system improvement which brings back some balance against the pesky AI. In the research tree there is also a Wonder Victory (which may vary by faction?), but that requires research and then building it. You can win Supremacy by building ships from the get-go and taking out races before they do the same to you, not my personal style. Haven't made it to 300 turns which I'm assuming is the same default game end as EL; it's kill, be killed, or research the heck out of the tree and win that way, and most of that will happen well before turn 200. ES has few autosaves and no natural interval to save games at (vs EL, where every 20 turns you have empire decisions to make); I'd advise doing regular saves.

8/10. It's a nice clean space 4x game which will frustrate at first, but is fine once you get to know it. I'm 80 hours in and have just scratched the surface.

A great Strategy Sci fi 4X game.

The DLC adds a few new things but unfortunately it breaks more than it adds. You can expect extreme load times (2 minutes instead of previous 10s), disappearing UI elements and even more random AI behavior. I just had an alliance with very friendly AI turn to war in one turn due to "high score" even though my score was dropping constantly.
The Harmony race is also a problem - they can 'purify' a planet so that it can no longer produce dust. The problem is that if you conquer such system it will work normally (produce dust) for dozens of turns until suddently the game goes "wait! it's purified, you can't produce dust here" and slams your dust delta from +70 to -1500 in one turn.
Also the fact that you cannot ever remove the dust impariment from the planet makes Harmony pretty much OP - once they conquer a system it becomes an endless dust drain for any other empire (it does not produce dust but it does cost dust to upkeep all the buildings). In the end if you play as Harmony and conquer a big part of galaxy it's nearly impossible to defeat such a player as it's too heavy a burden on dust to handle.

All in all like I said - it breaks more than it adds so unless you're fine with random sh!t happening randomly at any point, save yourself the nerves and keep to the basic version of the game. It just seems like they release it in beta stage...

At first i remeber that i found the game okay, but buggy as hell. But now, after having a few complete games with it, i can say i really enjoy it. It's not perfect, far from it but overall i discover new elements each time that makes me want to continue.

The main issue i see is its learning curve:
This game has complex rules, but does not assist new players to understand them. This lead to situations where new players are "blocked" to perform actions, but nothing in the games tells him why they can't perform that action. Logically, it looks seriously bugged for those new players. (e.g "Why in hell can't i move this fleet that moved so well so far ?" - the game could have told some way that there was no "open borders agreement" )

In the same manner, you are allowed to customize heavily your ship design (yay!!), but you can end up with pretty stupid designs you learn too late (that is after having build tons of those) that it just can't work.. For example you can design pretty nice invasion ships with modules to raze buildings and reduce population, but it is only then when you are trying out your new fleet to an enemy system that you are told that it doens't work because you didn't have any figther or bomber in your fleet.. Really frustrating.

So yeah, htis game is quite rough at first, but once you have mastered it, it becomes very diverse and complex, really funny to play.

For example, i remember having some fleets blocked in the system, unable to move.. the game could have told me why that move was forbidden, but no.. it's later than i understood the concept of "open borders agreement".

In the same manner, my first war was also a disaster, i was swarmed by enemy fleets going freely between my systems, blocking my ship production, evading fights when faced in battle, and fleeing to the next world and start the blockade a little farther. It stopped as soon as i figured what the "blockade" button was for :p .. just wish i discovered it sooner. Once again, the game could have assisted me on that point..

Since it allows me to play as the Vaulters (and fight the Harmony) I guess I'll permit the existence of this DLC.
