Dust: An Elysian Tail is an awesome action platformer! The story in this game is just fantastic... I felt excitement, compassion... and I even dropped a tear! (As far as I know, only 1 other game made me cry). The feelings are really strong in this game. There's way more to the game then just the story though! The platforming is good and the combat is fine. The art is simply amazing and the music is extremely good also!

I can't believe i've stopped playing about 1 hour in when I bought this game back in 2013. I came back to it just a few days ago and I had to play it until the end when I really got into the story. I've finished the game way past bedtime...

I actually really like the item system and character stats. You have to put your skill gems where you want your strength to be and it affects how you will play the game. I love finding new materials and crafting items too, it's quite simple, but well done. The metroid-style layout of the map is very enjoyable and the numerous save points makes the game a non-frustating experience.

Honestly, apart for some aspects of the combat (such as no food cooldown and clunky movement during melee strikes) and the game only taking 13 hours to 100%, this game is perfect. I would recommend anyone to purchase this game if you want a good story and an amazing game in general!

This game is fun. It has a good story (not exactly deep; meant for younger people). It has cute characters (that should appeal to anyone who is a fan of Disney movies and such). It has decent voice acting. It has fun hack-n-slash gameplay. It has nice art style and environments. It plays smoothly and without any noticeable bugs (at least for me). There really isn't much I can say against this game.

If a 2D hack-n-slash with the feel of playing a Disney movie is your (or your kids') thing, then you'll most probably enjoy this game. :)

Ok. That's out of the way.

What I liked:
+Background Design
+Music and Sound Effects
+Combat* and Control
+Level Design

*Combat feels good but is ultimately pretty shallow. I played on hardcore my first time and by the endgame I was feeling like the game wants you to abuse the Dust Storm and lightning too much. The few combos that are in the game aren't super flashy and the dust storm outshines them really early unless you ignore Fidget and don't craft rings. The dodge ability could have been soley on the right stick and the triggers could've been freed up to modify combos and give some more variety.

What I disliked:
-Character design
-Story is nothing special
-Voice Acting*
-The ♥♥♥♥ing poison shooting plants in Chapter 2 (Seriously ♥♥♥♥ you)

*I actually didn't mind Fidget at all. My issue here might be more with dialog writing than acting. Some of Dust's lines are stupidly edgy and overly dramatic. And the country bumpkin Mudpot people annoyed me a little too. Again that might be a writing issue. I felt a lot of the voices and characters were just fine barring these few.

Overall Dust is a very solid game that I would recommend to fans of action platformers or Metroid style exploration. Made 95% by one dude, it's impressive that a game of this length and scope turned out as well as it did.

One of the best platformers you can get on PC and it's made by 1 person (if you don't count soud designers & Voice actors)

Right when you jump in, you'll have a hard time believing that only 1 person could create this game, and this feeling will last till the end of the game. It's beautiful hand-drawn world that you are going to fall in love with.
You are playing as Dust, which is a boy that can't quite remember who he is or how he ended up where he is right now, shortly his swords begins to talk to him, but it's not going to reveal much. And after that, you are going to meet your sidekick fidget. She can be a bit annoying but it's a cute character that's making the game more interesting. She is not there just for the heck of it, she is a guardian of the sword your hero weilds and she decides to follow you if you are not going to retur the sword and in fact, she proves to be useful on your jurney.

The combat is flawless, fluid and responsive. Even tho there's alot to do, you'll be right at home with the mechanics. you are not only going to be killing stuff with your sword, you are going to learn some magic too and that's where fidget is going to proof useful to you. She cast it, you make it better. It's as simple as that.

You are going to be picking up some loot and coins alog the way, it's a RPG game after all complete with vendors and some crafting. While you can't craft yourself, you are going to meet a blacksmith, that's going to craft you whatever she can, you'll just have to find the resources and pay a fee. In the end, the gear can change how you play and what bonuses your character is going to have. You are also leveling up and each level you get to choose what stat are you going to increase.

You get quests as well as side quests and each is unique in its own way. I'd suggest you to complete every single one, it's worth your time. You can also find challanging places in the wrold. You have to complete certain challanges in them (run through an area fast and destroy all targets).

The story is easy to follow and yet it's great. You may think that you know who your character is after a while, but in the end it's all quite different and surprising. Each character have its own individuality, which makes it even better.

The music is one of the most important aspects of any game for me and here it's outstanding. I love the soundtrack, it's memorable and is making the game even better! I guarantee you are not going to be disapointed.

I 100% the game and I would play it again, any time! It's full of nice references from other games that don't get in the way. It's working great with both a controller (it's ported from xbox after all) and keyboard. The PC port is one of the best ports out there, some major AAA devs could learn a thing or two (I am not kidding).
If you like platformers and you don't own this game yet, for the love of god get it! It's well worth the 14€

The game looked beautiful, the combat was pretty seamless, but I found that I would use the same moves over and over because some were innately more powerful, and it got boring soon after. This would be a good game for someone looking more for storyline and to be dazzled by graphics, the character types and dialogue just weren't for me - a bit child-like. Still a decent game.

There's not much for me to say about this game that hasn't already been said; it's a masterpiece. Dust is one of those games you have to play and if you don't at least enjoy it not fall in love with it then you must not like videogames. At first glance the story seems pretty lack luster and for some it still might even as you play more, but for most it is a masterfully executed narrative backed up by impresive voice acting. There so much more I could say; like how the combat is the most simple yet massively rewarding fight ing I've ever played, or how I couldn't stop playing.

12/10 GET IT!

Dust is eye candy. Dean Dodrill is a great artist and it shows in this, his first and only game.
To boot, the controls are fluid, the maps are well thought out, and the side-quests are rewarding and straight-forward.
It really shows that Dodrill and I grew up with the same mind-bending 8-bit adventure games. Castlevania and Master Blaster are obvious influences.
The story and characters are solid: nothing too out of the ordinary, but not cheesy, maudlin, or too over the top.
It is well worth the $15, and if you catch it on sale don't hesitate to buy it!

This game remains as my second favorite game, right under Counter Strike : Global Offensive. It has an amazing story line and the gameplay was also very enjoyable, the game has very beautiful graphics. I would play this game alot more if i had some time up my sleave, and who can forget Fidget, sometimes it makes you remember how annoying sidekicks are. This game is definetly worth the money.

This is the ONLY game I have EVER played where I actually read the credits at the end. Why you ask? You probably havent but I am going to tell you anyway... This game is so beautifully done that I felt by the end of it it deserved the time to read the names behind it. I really can't find anything to fault with this game. It is, simply put, charming in its delivery.

The characters are great, the story is very well delivered and keeps you invested in the what is going on while giving adequete spaces between story for action and mini puzzles.

The combat, while simple, also has a degree of complexity that does take some time to master but when mastered makes you feel like such a bad*ss while also punishing your mistakes (keep in mind I only played this on the hardest difficulty setting and quite frankly, at times, it was a f*cking nightmare. It may well be quite easy on the easiest setting).

Level design is very well thought out with a great mix of miniture puzzles (to find loot and 'friends'), hazards and a great assortment of enemies to go through.

There is even a simple crafting system and an RPG style levelling system that is also VERY well done as it is simple yet effective in what it does. What does it do? Gives you what I would call 'Freedom Control'. Your free to choose the way you are controlled. 'This armour is the best you can get at the moment (controlled)... now would you like to buy that, craft it by hunting enemies for materials by grinding or buy the materials needed?... Your call chuckles.". It works very brilliantly. Even with the leveling system for Dust. While you can be a powerhouse hitter and kill everything in a few hits, you cant be SUCH a heavy hitter that you die in one hit yourself.

I would recommend this game to everyone. Not that I think everyone will enjoy it on the level I did but because it is so well done that it deserves to be played by lovers of games. It is masterfully done.

this is a looooong overdue :) ...well now.. let's see...preety decent graphic considering that is only 2d perspective...although, sometimes, it has to many visual effects (when in a fight) so u can't resemble what is Dust and what is the enemy. (someone was overcompensating for that one ;) ). Gameplay is very fluid, but it lacks speed in some areas. One would disagree on that matter, but i love fast 2d sidescroller ;). The story is really interesting, combining the mystic past of Dust (and Fidget) and (of course) the amnesia of main character is a good recipe for rockin' some major in-game hours. It's definitely worth every penny. (wait for the discount of course ;) )

Dust: An Elysian Tail is an amazing 2D side scrolling combat game. Not only does this game have an awesome combat system but it has a great story as well. There are also RPG like elements in the game as you level up with experience and can upgrade your gear. Great sounds, music and artwork throughout the entire game. The game took me ~15 hours to play through which includes getting 100% in all the areas and completing all the quests. I highly recommend this game!

A more than decent side-scrolling beat-em up with RPG elements that is overall fluid but somewhat overstays it's welcome and grows repetetive in the last chapter. The story is deeply, deeply trite, but the characters and their dialogues are charming enough to make up for it.

Gorgeous backgrounds and sound design.

All in all, a very impressive feat for a single developer.

A visually immersive, but casual gaming experience.
Decent enough stoy line to keep you intrigued, but I was still able to remove myself and get on with my life if needed.

The gameplay is cutesy, the dailogue is a bit one-dementional with the occasional geek-culture reference thrown in, but overall it's a great game. Its simple mechanics and to-the-point hack and slash gameplay have you hooked within minutes.
