Great music, ceaselessly entertaining combat (At least on hard mode), a ton of charm - which brings with it some slightly cringey dialogue at times - and a surprisingly solid story. Some areas can get a tad bit annoying in my opinion, but then again, I've only played on hard.
Play it on hard, by the way. It's quite difficult in the beginning, but if you stick with it, it's fantastic.

I bought this game on a sale, and left it sitting in my library for a year or more before finally getting around to playing it. Waiting that long was a huge mistake.

Dusk: An Elysian Tail is a vibrant, beautifully made game. With a meaningful, exciting story and a wonderfully smooth, fun to use combat system it offers a great deal to it! Would definitely recommend it for anyone.

At first, I was very excited for this game. I played, played and played for hours. I began loving it, everything about it. The graphics, the voices and the story. I finished the game in Normal mode, so I went for the Tough one. Well, here's what happened: I hated the game once the first battle started. Why? Because every mob was able to kill Dust in an instant. It got more challenging, but that didn't stop me from playing the game. In fact, I wanted to beat the so-called Tough mode. It got harder later on, but the harder it got, the faster Dust leveled up. That's what I loved the most about the Moonblood Camp, the battles. All in all, it was such an amazing journey with this game. Sure it was love hate love, but overall, I loved it. Thank you for making an amazing game, dear developers!

This was an awesome side-scroller. First and foremost was the sensible story that kept me invested througout, along with nice voice work. The addictive nature of the game lies within the loot and crafting system. The items and armor that can be found in this game is nuts, it was one of the reasons I found it hard to quit once I started playing. This was a spectacular playthrough with an art-style to die for.

Writing this review, I feel torn. I want to recommend this game. I like Dust's style and concept, and the gameplay is fun, but I ran into too many serious game issues and design mistakes.*

One caveat - I played the game on maximum difficulty, which has a tendency to amplify any game bugs or annoyances one encounters, particularly if they force one to repeat long sections of game.

Pros
+ Combat system is simple, but fun. Good combination of traditional platformer and fight combo.
+ Characters are cute, which some may find endearing, especially fidget.
+ Small point, but the game does seem to run comfortably at 4k
+ The creator's hand-drawn art style is appealing, and because it was done by one person, it is consistently styled throughout, representing a coherent artistic vision. (Generally speaking, the game's weaknesses are not in its art.)
+ The music is good, if short and not especially memorable.
+ While the story may be a bit shallow (by the standards of a jaded adult such as myself) it is still compelling enough to generally keep my interest. I care what happens to Dust and even the hapless characters he encounters.

Cons
- Forcing your players to repeat tedious cutscenes every time they die to a boss is perverse and unforgivable. On higher difficulties, where bosses can easily kill you in one hit, it becomes quickly infuriating. This very thing is what kept me from completing the game.**
- Characters are cute, which some may find cloying, especially fidget.
- Furry, Disney-like animal people aren't my style, though I know they turn some folks on.
- Many people, including myself, have had intermittent problems with save points and other interaction triggers failing to work correctly, leaving me unable to save the game after long, dangerous stretches of play. I've been unable to resolve this problem.
- The combat system awards extra XP for hits, which directly competes with damage (since you can hit something more times if you hit it for less damage). The result is that fighting to gain XP and fighting for gold and crafting materials are in direct opposition.
- The game makes you repeat areas over and over after movement abilities are unlocked that allow travel to new areas. This was done better in Ori and the Blind Forest, in which a map showed you what areas you had yet to explore rather than having to scour the entire area again and again.
- While the art is nice, it is oddly mixed with 3d-rendered objects (such as Dust's sword) and poorly aliased objects (falling stones) that can be jarring, especially on higher resolutions, which tend to make the difference more obvious. The result is that some things look like they were imported into the game from another universe.

* Note that these could be corrected, in which case I'd reverse my recommendation. I also freely confess that my decision to mark the game down had something to do with the volume of uncritical reviews it has recieved. Uncritical reviews don't help anyone improve anything.

** I find this a bizzare mistake, given that this game has a relationship with Super Meat Boy, a game I enjoyed thoroughly despite its difficulty because it used the genius idea of letting you instantly try again every time you die.

Well.. how do I start with this.
I admit that I buy games and usually don't even finish them.
But this one just held me in it's grasp.
Dust is a game that is in my opinion a must buy for furries and non-furries.
You just feel every single character until the end.

So what are you waiting for?

Despite they say that the game has a complete support for controllers on Mac OSX, they forgot to say that it is limited to the xbox controller. Steam controller and the steam overlay are completly broken and the support refuses to fix the problem or even reply because, I quote from their website, they have no time.
They sell this game for a platform, require a controller, and is not playable.
I can not recommend this game at the moment on anything but windows.

The one most beautiful game I've ever played in my life.

Amazing soundtracks, extraorinary scenery, voice-acting that is like melt butter, and a story - so brilliant that it left me collecting the burnt pieces of my heart spread across the floor.

Dust: an Elysian Tail will always have a special place in my soul. I will remember this game to the day I die - and hopefully even after that. I'd like to send my warmest regards to the people who made this; thank you for the journey of my life. How much I ever payed for this game was too little when compared to the experience I had playing it.

This game was gifted to me by a friend and I just had to give it a try!

Now first off the story is rather interested to say the least. Some of the plot you can kinda guess what is going to happen, but it does a good job of throwing some twists and new surprises at you to keep things fresh. The battle controls are fun, fast paced, and filled with excitement to try new combos. There are oodles of quests to complete, many hidden areas to explore, and secrets to unlock; I'm making it a challenge to find/complete them all!

Found this to be an enjoyable game with a pleasing aesthetic design. I was drawn in by the animation and had fun playing and learning the different skills. The storyline was also interesting. Definitely recommend this game.

Great Metroidvania platformer with a Brawler style combat system. Dean Dodril did a great job with the animation and really makes you feel for his characters with solid voice acting and a good storyline. I would recommend that any experienced gamer play on the toughest difficulty setting. I made the mistake of playing on normal and it was far too easy.

I really enjoyed the game "despite" the gameplay issues I mention below. To be honest the atmosphere simply sucks you in and the mix of platforming, combat and RPG works out quite well.

Positives
- A game with a signature mechanic which looks and feels very, very cool.
- A good amount of combat and platforming. The latter becomes increasingly trickier.
- Stunning graphics. Basically all of them are hand-made.
- Great music and voice acting is well-done.
- Cliché story (homage to retro games) with a good twist.
- A good mix of serious and cheesy/funny dialogues.
- RPG Elements such as customizing your different pieces of armor. Upgrades are available throughout the entire game.
- Very gamer-friendly mechanics. No material grinding or unnecessary backtracking!
- Talking to NPCs is literally rewarding as each dialogue grants exp - and often a side-quest.
- Opening treasure chests is fun as each of them requires you to beat a mini-game.
- Completing the game grants you a rather unique reward!
- Many Easter eggs and references to older games.

Negatives
- Gameplay... is the biggest issue as the combat becomes very repetitive.
1) Spamming two moves is not only the strongest, but also the most-exp-earning move in the game.
2) The main character doesn't learn any new combat moves.
3) Later on in the game, most of your regular moves will be blocked, so we're back at 1).
4) Intermediate and chapter bosses don't feel that much different from regular mobs.
- "Normal" gamemode is not challenging at all, even for average players like myself. There is no difficulty spike. I'd recommend playing it on a harder setting from the very beginning.
- 1 mandatory BS Indie game secret (which the game openly admits with a cutscene).
- Only one coin of the story is shown. Unfortunately the other half was cut due to time pressure (more information available in the post-mortem which you can find on the discussion boards).

Only one word can be used to describe this game: Beautiful.

A marvel in it's genre, Dust: An Elysian Tail is without a doubt the best indie game I have ever played. It is one of the few games that have their own unique atmosphere. Every aspect of the game blends so well, that it creates an immersive experience like no other.

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a game that I would describe as a work of art. After completing this game on normal difficulty, I can say that the gameplay, while refined, is not the easiest to get the hang of, or master, but the game is extremely fun none the less. The art and story are unique, making the game quite memorable. My only gripe about the game is that the story is quite short.

When I first saw this game it caught me off guard with the whole side scrolling RPG adventure style, I bought it and played through it from start to finish on hardcore on my first playthrough, it was quite fun with the small flawless challenge. You could die just as easy to enemies as you could kill them, I had my fair share of deaths as well as victories. But I can't deny how beautiful this game is. The unique worlds and weathers that comes with it, biomes and new challenges all around the corner. Characters you can grow to love and hate. You feel feel emmersed in this game as you can't help but feel like Dust. You're thrown into this strange world with no memory or clue as to what's going on or what you're doing. And with a gentle little shove from Ahrah, you're well on your way into a journey around this glorious landcape. I love it's simple yet facinating design and exploration. You can explore places that has NOTHING to do with the main quest line, just to feed that inner adventurer in you or do a good deed. I'm honestly surprised by the amount of potentioal in this game despite being locked in a side scrolling dimension, it still manages to show off so much. It's incredible how well they combined all the genres into this one massive scape. Exploring this beautiful world that surrounds you, filled with details and epic particles. While fending off foes along your journey. You grow close to the characters in this world and really notice the unique traits and personalities. Which makes it so much more emotional for you as you continue onwards. I highly recommend this game to anyone who's looking for a challenge, adventure or simply just want to enjoy the beauty some things can offer. The experiences I had from this game will be some I will never forget, I will carry them with me til' the Life Thread calls. And I hope anyone else who sets out on this journey will come to love and hate it as much as I have! Farewell for now though, dust to dust, ashes to ashes. I've become quite the fanboy, haven't I?

Really enjoyed this game. The mechanics are repetitive, but oh are they ever stylish. Action packed, pretty good story and great art.

A+ would play again.
