Price Drop and Standalone DLC!

Hello everyone!

Ahead of the launch for We Happy Few we are excited to announce that we are permanently dropping the price on Contrast from US$14.99 to US$9.99 on all the platforms (Steam, Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3 and Nvidia SHIELD).

We are also (finally) offering the DLC as a standalone upgrade to Contrast for US$5.99 (Steam only), which contains:

Shadow Music
A Soundtrack to Contrast: Enjoy the digital version (MP3) of the 16-track original soundtrack, featuring the lovely Laura Ellis. Every track is featured in the game and highlights our unique world, atmosphere, and style.

Contrast Official Art Book
The Art Book explains the background to the game, including the conception and production the game, official art, unused concept images, and the story behind the music and sound. And pictures of all of us who worked on it. Look out for Sam, he’s really handsome. Also a bit deluded, but what can you do.

Contrast was our first game and we hold it close to our heart. If you didn’t get a chance to play it, it’s a good way to understand what led up to We Happy Few and to take a glimpse into the Compulsion world :)

About This Game

CONTRAST is a puzzle/platform game where you can move between a fantastic 3D world and a mysterious shadowy universe in 2D in the blink of an eye. Delve into a dreamlike and surreal 1920s world, inspired by the performance art world of vaudeville and film noir, and cradled by a smooth and sultry jazz ambiance.

You have the power to slip from the 3D dreamscape into the parallel 2D shadow world bound to it. Cast light on a shadowy story by manipulating light sources in the 3D world to distort, enlarge or stretch the 2D shadow world. Manipulating and shifting between light and shadow will be the key elements that you will need to use to solve our world of shadow-based puzzles and help progress Didi's story!

Key Features
  • Shift between the physical 3D world and the 2D shadow world, at any lit wall surface
  • Create unique shadow landscapes by manipulating light sources and real world objects, and use this ability to solve mind-bending puzzles

  • Immerse yourself in a lush vaudevillian world of cabaret singers, circus performers, and magic

I'm having a hard time recommending this one.

Cons:
- Feels a bit unpolished
- Controls can Bea bit tricky at times, the protagonist pops in the non-shadow world

Neutral:
- A bit short, for the price
- SimplePlatforming
- Mediocre story

Pros:
- Beautiful design
- Short enough to not get dull and repetative
- Noir setting

All in all I'd say wait for a sale and get it, if you like the art design and you're at least somewhat into puzzle platformers.

I really enjoyed the game play and puzzles. The art work was amazing. I enjoyed the story, a bit of mystery here and there and it kept me busy for a couple of hours :) I would recommend this to anyone who likes a puzzle challenge. This game reminded me to think outside the box. Contrast gets a BIG thumbs up in my book.

Great concept, great visuals... but is it worth its price?

Contrast is a fun single player Platformer with the great concept of switching between 3D and 2D. At one moment you wander around in the colourful yet desaturated noir style world, when you have to plunge into the nearest wall to let your shadow finish a certain puzzle. For me, the visuals, and the way certain parts of the game are changing throughout the level was pretty cool.

While providing 2-3 hours of gameplay (depending on how skilled you are as well as how much time you spend exploring), Contrast tells the story of the girl Didi Malenkaya. In the 3 acts provided, the player gets to play as Dawn - Didis imaginary friend - and learns a bit about their past as well as discovers new details about Didi and her family's past. While not being the most complex of stories ever told, it's still an interesting tale that gets completed by gethering collectibles throughout the levels.

The puzzle and platforming elements themself are pretty well executed but sometimes lack of difficulty. I do know, that Contrast was not intended to be an overly difficult game, yet some parts seemed just too easy, while some had the perfect mixture of difficulty in figuring out what to do and actually doing so. Sadly, like in many other games, there were one or two plain frustrating parts in the game, when the objective was figured out quickly, but the execution took a lot of time because of "bad" level design or more often bugs.

As just mentioned, bugs were one of the only negative aspects of the game. While (most of them) most of them were not game breaking, they were pretty constitant throughout the game. By that I mean, wierd clipping through walls (that can be performed on purpose to get some stuff earlier), gettig shot out of the wall when being in 2D or getting stuck in places you shouldnot reach. For me, especially the Pirate Cove part was a bit of an issue as I got stuck in some of the ships placed throughout the level several time withozut being able to get out again. Because of this I had to repeat the level three times, as Checkpoints are sometimes set a bit weirdly.

While being a bit short and having some minor flaws that could be fixed "easily", 10$ might seem a bit pricy, but in my opinion, when bought on sale, Contrast is a great gaming experience, if not for just it's Shadow Puppet part and general visuals alone.

7/10

Wonderful game. I've only ever had one problem with the game and that was being booted out of it and having to start over due to a corrupted save file.
All in all, very good.

I absolutely loved the artstyle and story of the game. Some elements and puzzles were a bit difficult to understand at first but thankfully not enough to destroy the gameplay. Definitely something I would reccomend for the puzzle/platform lovers out there though.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, really quite compelling and had me addicted within the first 10 minutes of gameplay. I enjoyed the story aspect of the game as well as the puzzles and very much enjoyed jumping in and out of shadows! Could only wish for it to have been longer and an more in depth story so it could cary on a bit longer but other than that pretty perfect really. I'd recommend it to those who enjoy something that isn't so full on as shooting games.

Simply to put it Contrast is one of the best games I've ever played. The story is amazing and the way the collectables build a deeper background story made me collect all of them. The little puzzles are just challenging enough to keep you intrested and won't drive you crazy. The soundtrack is amazing and the main theme is so beautiful I could listen it for days!

I dont think the mechanic is enough to carry the game because it gets rather stale very quickly. It really needs more polishing with the camera angels and the actual use of the puzzle mechanics.

The story wasnt awful but it wasnt good either. I really dont think youd miss out on much if you pass this one up.

Great game! I loved the mechanic of switching into and out of shadows. Projecting a light through a gear and then climbing its' shadow to an otherwise unreachable place was awesome. It is also a short game which is nice for us older players who have kids and a 40 hour work week. Great game! Good Story. Enjoy!

A puzzle game where you become a shadow to traverse shadows on walls to complete various objectives helping a little girl named Didi to solve various problems she has.

Pros:
+Clever puzzles
+Good atmosphere
+Interesting characters

Cons:
-Can be buggy at times
-Controls can be akward sometimes though this isn't a problem most of the time
-Very short

I did enjoy this game, but it ended far too soon. My advice: Pick it up during a sale. It is worth playing, just not sure if it's worth the full price.

It's good, but you should know what you're getting into. This is not a head-scratcher. This is not a sprawling adventure that will fill hours of your life.

This is a charming, light puzzle game that you'll finish in a couple hours (In my 3h of playtime I've even got all the achievements, and I had to replay a section for one of them). For its price, I think it's more than worth it, however.

Wow.
Contrast is one of those games that are unique in every way.
I am met with a noir themed game that I always crave & found myself playing a full run through of Contrast.

I really don't want to give away anything from the story as I thought it was brilliant and should be discovered by the player.

Enjoyed just about every moment of it (except 1 or 2 puzzles took me too many frustrating goes but I got it after about 10 minutes)

A great idea to jump between the 2D & 3D world (or should I say 4D).
Loved the music, just bought the soundtrack & will be reliving the 1920s atmosphere once again.

Definitely recommend to all gamers. For a game under 4 hours, you won't walk away disappointed.

What a strange and wonderful game. Pick it up on sale and enjoy the shadow mechanic. The puzzles are simple, but this does not ruin the game.

Game is good. Story could be better but you will like this game. Gameplay is not bad but could be better. I didn't see a game jump from normal life to shadows. Still I don't understand am I a shadow? a puppet? Or this little girl has Schizophrenia?

Beautiful game with beautiful music. Contrast is a great platformer with somewhat challenging puzzles. Most are pretty easy until you get towards the end, then they are quite hard to figure out. Although it is a short game (I beat it in 3-4 hours) I would still recommend it because it is still very fun. I did have a few glitches when I played like being shot across the room if landing on something at a weird angle but I think it only happened a couple times. Achievements are also pretty easy to get. I got most of them without even trying and found all the collectibles exept one.

This is Psychonauts played in a smoky jazz club in Dark City. Highly recommended.
Platforming puzzles only ever get mildly frustrating, and the story is interesting. The game is short enough to not outstay its welcome, and there is an interesting back story in the collectibles.
Worth playing for the Princess shadowpuppet level alone.
