"This is a quality piece of software. Even without the extra modules, this is simply amazing. The SU-25T is one of my favourite jets of all time, and it is brilliantly realised here, with so much content you feel guilty for getting it for free.

This only goes to show the confidence that DCS have in there Digital Combat Simulator, that they would give you so much for free. Stop reading this and go and download it now!." – Hubpages

"DCS World is a must-have for simulation enthusiasts who want as real as you can get in their home PC." – SimHQ

I spent 4 hours leaning how to start my plane then crashed on the runway. 10/10 would kill myself again.

Alright, so ehh... This review won't be something special, but I'll try to do my best.

I love simulators, military based ones tho. Most of everything, I love planes.

I started loving planes when I started playing Ace Combat Zero / Ace combat games.

All types, cargo planes, fighter jets or bombers. I love 'em all.

This game gives you 2 free planes. SU-25T [Frogfoot] and P-51D. Both special in their ways, depends on what military situations or time periods you like.

With both of those planes, you can have some pretty good experience and fun, with or without friends.

The problem is having only 2 planes availible. The rest of them are just accessable by purchasing DLCs.

I do wanted to cry about it, but when you think about it... The game is free. It gives you much more than just fun or experience.

Details, information, different editors, models, realistic sounds, manuals, HUGE map aswell.

It all takes a lot of time to create, people to find who are willing to work on the game, and last, funding.

This is an excellent simulator and I do hope they'll add more different planes you can fly, cargo ones aswell.

In 2 days, by just focusing on the SU-25T, I learned how to check everything before taking off, taking off, flying and doing some cool maneuvers, using the thermal screen and guiding rockets to the designated target... and landing it as well. Once you know the basics, the rest will be easy. Using dragging chutes when landing is pretty hardcore and awesome. :)

It would be nice if they could add a free helicopter and a fighter jet, giving us more roles that you can work on and improve your skills.

SU-25 is not a fighter jet. END. <-- (Just for people who wanted to argue that the plane is a fighter jet.)

Consider buying a DLC when on a discount. It will be worth it. You'll be happy aswell as a company that works on the game. :)

That's pretty much it.

Thanks for reading.

This is not a game, this is a simulator. If you are looking for a game go play HAWX or War Thunder.
Do not write a negative review only because it's too hard to play, it is intended to be this way.
If you like simulators then this is a must have guys.

Was going to play IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad, bought an X52 non pro to do so. Decided i'd try DCS WORLD and see if it really was that great.

Spent 27 hours this last week playing it as a SU 27 pilot. So what am i saying?

This is a great game, you need to give it a few hours to learn the aircraft and set the controls but when you know everything this is so much fun. I can't get enough of this game and i've only played the SU 27 so far.

Thank you DCS!

-Ignore my abysmal play time, I play the non-steam version-

DCS World... wow. TLDR: Great sim for those with months to kill.

Although I am not the most experienced pilot in the game, I still enjoy it... That is a bit of an understatement, I love this game.

Review without any modules purchased:
DCS World provides two aircraft for free; the SU-25T ground pounding beast, and the TF-51 Mustang. Ignore the Mustang, it's just there to introduce clickable cockpits, but it has no available weapons. The SU-25 is where it's at. For a primarily CAS and SEAD aircraft, the Frogfoot is surprisingly fast and manueverable. Load that bad boy up with only AA missiles and you got a veritable fighter on your hands, not that recommended however. The ground striking is where the SU-25 shines. Dumb bombs, guided bombs, rocket pods, guided missiles, you get a little bit of everything with the Frogfoot. Couple that with the incredibly easy flight characteristic of the aircraft, it is the perfect starter. As a completely free download, DCS is so incredibly worth it for those with just a little time to learn the keyboard commands.

Review with some modules: Personally, I own the KA-50 Blackshark, A-10C, SU-27, and P-51D Mustang. As a second aircraft to buy, I would highly recommend the SU-27 if you prefer a more CAP style of play. If you prefer a CAS playstyle, get the A-10A/C. A if you want an easier plane to fly, C if you want realism. The A-10C is amazing. That does not need to be said. When you start it up for the first time without any help, it is an amazing feeling. I'm going to try to stop gushing about the amazing modules and actually try to review the game with modules as a whole. It is so worth it. Sure, the modules are really freaking pricey, but they offer so much more depth to the game. You thought the game with deep enough with the TF-51? Try the A-10C. Often described as the most confusing aircraft to start in the game, although I don't see it. Flamming Cliffs 3 provides a litany of easy aircraft to fly. F-15, SU-27, Mig-29, etc... They all don't have clickable cockpits, but they are the best to just fly around and have a little more arcade-y fun. Want a proper realistic fighter experience? Get the Mig-21, Mirage 2000, or F-5E. Those are proper realism at it's finest. Although I don't own any of them, simply watching some basic flights on YouTube makes me really want them. The Mig-21 in particular. It's radar is literally cooled with the finest of Russian alcohol. It does not get more awesome than that.

Perhaps will be editted as experience is garnered.

DCS World is a "free to play" complex Flight Simulator. It worked on Win 10, looked great, sounded great, played ok. You can fly an SU-25 "Frogfoot" Russian Ground Attack jet for Free. It has a pretty detailed tutorial for that plane, broken up into sections and has an english voiceover. The Frogfoot has Russian text and voices in the cockpit, so not easy to figure out by looking. DCS also has a TF-51D Mustang Trainer plane for free but there is no tutorial for it, and it is a different flight model from the SU-25. This flight simulator is Detailed and has a steep learning curve. Has Instant Action, Create fast Missions, Missions, and Campaign. Has multiplayer action also. You can fly with the keyboard and mouse.
DCS World has Mission and Campaign editors so you could get missions from other players to play. It is also VR ready for Rift and Vive headsets. You can buy more planes, helicopters and campaigns for this game.

Try it, if you like complex Flight simulators.

This game is an absolute gem. DCS World is a true flight simulator that even incorporates modern AA and AG combat into it. I am absolutely positive that this is the best flight simulator made to date.

Just to address one concern of others. When you download DCS, you recieve a free aircraft, the Su-25T (Frogfoot). It's a very capable aircraft and enjoyable to fly. Where people get upset is that there are lots of DLC module aircraft that you have to pay for. The thing people don't understand is that this game is made by a business and they have to make money. When they spend 3 years developing a module, a 2.99 price tag isn't going to cut it. The fact that they sell some of these for $10, especially with the low playerbase of the game is astounding. Instead of complaining that you have to pay for these aircraft, praise them for being so generous.

EDIT: For some reason DCS only counts the time in game on my steam account as the time the game is launching. I really have at this time (30/09/16) approximately 230 hours.

Amazing simulator with insanely detailed DLC aircraft. The game includes 2 free aircraft to try out and get your feet wet. If you are interested in combat flight sims this is as good as it gets.

My Steam game time does not accuratly reperesent my actual time in game as most of it has been on the non Steam version of the game...

This game is amazing. The attention to detail is incredible. The ir missiles even lock on to the sun. If you want a game that gives you the feeling of really flying a millitary aircraft look no further. This game has it all... I can't even imagine playing this in VR.

This game is Very well optimized and can (in theory) be played with just a keyboard. I would highly recomend getting a joystick. It will greatly enhance your experience. You don't even need something exspensive either. I started with a Logiteck Attack 2. Then a friend swapped me for an Extreme 3D pro. Both are very cheep joysticks. The 3D pro is really all you need and it's like $30 on amazon. A true HOTAS is definatly the way to go though and after a lot of reaserch I will be getting a CH fighterstick, pedals and pro throttle. Hopefully I will have my DIY trackir hat built here soon and will no longer have to use a mouse to look around. The thing is though, even with the cheap control setup, the game is tons of fun. I would try the free Su25T first. Give the game a fair shot. I actually thought it was stupid at first and quit playing after like an hour. I came back a year later and started learning off youtube. It hit me. The game was incredible. From there on out I put in hundreds of hours. I got FC3 and had fun with the jets. Then I stepped up and got the Ka-50 and A-10C on sale. Very good purchases. Yes they take some time and willingness to learn but they really aren't that hard. The aircraft are setup logically. Once you learn the basics all the advanced stuff will click into place. Multiplayer is great and lots of fun. Finnaly... GIVE THE GAME AN HONIST TRY. ACTUALLY ATTEMPT TO LEARN THE SYSTEMS AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE TECHNICALITY OF IT ALL. YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE AND A NEW TYPE OF GENRE WILL OPEN TO YOU!!!

ps. Set curves of like 20-30 on your axises. It will make flying a ton easier. also... Slow smooth motions. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. :)
