Reviews

"This is a quality piece of software. Even without the extra modules, this is simply amazing. The SU-25T is one of my favourite jets of all time, and it is brilliantly realised here, with so much content you feel guilty for getting it for free.

This only goes to show the confidence that DCS have in there Digital Combat Simulator, that they would give you so much for free. Stop reading this and go and download it now!." – Hubpages

"DCS World is a must-have for simulation enthusiasts who want as real as you can get in their home PC." – SimHQ

Hands down worst flying game ever! The controls are hard to learn and very backwards. The training is poorly made and half the time you cant hear the instructor. Its a good thing this game is F2P!

The graphics are great. Everything from creating missions to playing online is endless hours of fun. A little hard to learn the controls at the beginning, but definately worth it. 10/10

this is definately not a arcade style game, but if you are willing o do some research and practice it is really worth the effort. IMO DCS is without a doubt the best flight sim (al least that ive tried), escpecially the MIG 21.

If you enjoy ultra realistic flight simulators, have a joystick and are willing to pay a high price. Then get this game. I think everybody should try this game with the free modules, they honestly are a blast. If you like the Su-25T more then the TF-51D then I recomend getting the Flaming Cliffs DLC, All of thoes modlues still have realistic flight, but the cockpit is non-clickable. If you like the TF-51D then I would suggest getting basically anything else. I love flying the A10-C the most with its clickable cockpit. But I still enjoy flying the F15 from Flaming Cliffs. If you do not like either of them then I do not suggest buying any of the DLC. Also keep in mind, that this is a simulator, you are learning to fly REAL aircraft, so please dont complain that it is too hard.

Been a fighter enthusiast since I could walk and talk, and this game let's me live the dream of being a fighter pilot. Without a doubt the most detailed simulator I've ever played, flight or otherwise. I'd highly recommend investing in a good joystick and a Track IR for maximum immersion.

NOTE: I have hundreds of hours in the standalone version and recently switched to steam for convenience only to find that it isn't optimized that well for the steam clinet. I'm not sure what exactly it is but compared to the standalone version I suffer from slow loading of textures, serious hanging when I first join a MP server, and overall less performance than I would in the standalone. I'd recommend downloading the game from Eagle Dynamics website as it much more stable and optimized (from my personal experience). Either way, standalone or steam - if you're a flight sim enthusiast or a jet guy like me, you're going to love this ****.

The Free DCS World game is great, but the modules that are for sale here and on the ED website are absolutely phenomenal. When you purchase a high fidelity module you're putting yourself in the cockpit of the actual aircraft in a sense. Almost every single button you see in the cockpit is clickable, has a function, and needs to be utilized for proper flight and combat engagements. This is what sets DCS apart from all of flying sims and games out there. Each aircraft comes with a 150-250+ page flight manual that needs to be studied in order to master your machine, and it's a lot of fun to learn. It's very immersive being in the cockpit, selecting your weapons loadout, fueling up, doing your start up routine, and making sure all systems are functional before you begin your taxiing to the runway for take off. The game has a great communications system for ATC and AWACS that offer invaluable information before, during, and after your flight that adds to this immersion. Coupled with a very friendly and professional multiplayer scene this makes for a great experience for both novice and enthusiast sim pilots.

I can't give this game enough credit for what it brings to the world of flying and combat flight, it's something I will be playing for years. 10/10

Ultra realistic flight dynamics and controls, you WILL need to study the manuals for some time before you can even think about taking off.

The sound of being hit by a missile is terrifying!
The AI is brutal, they don't muck around.

The only down side is the game stuggles to keep up when you are flying low, at speeds of 500+, and I've got a very good computer which gives you a heart attack when there's a hill coming up :S

After hundreds of hours I finally started to learn how to land jets correctly, which involves, as I have discovered, not becoming a flaming ball of death at either end of the runway.

Very deep and in depth. This is A TRUE flight simulator, or more accurately: combat simulator. Flight dynamics are spot on. You go through a very complicated start up sequence to just start your plane, everything is manual! If you've seen real pilots start up a chopper or plane, flipping switches all over, checking various pressure guages, engine rpms, etc... That is what you'll be doing here. And every plane has a different load out.

The tutorial walks you through everything for the su25, and once you do the first few tutorials you'll get the hang of the game.

One handy tip is to right click on the game in your library then choose the game manual! It'll show you all the tools for landing, taking off, emergency procedures, and combat.

I got DCS with the Flaming Cliffs and MIG-21BIS addon.
It's true that it takes ages for them to design and release an aircraft, but the result is a very detailed cockpit and after a while a balanced aicraft that performs like you expect.

The learning curve is very steep, if you never got into military flight sims and have no ♥♥♥♥ing clue of tactics and strategies you will struggle alot. You will find yourself reading up on ECM-Jammers, Flares, Chaff, what you do when you get an enemy missile launch on you, etc.
You will spend hours digging and searching for every bit of information. You will go and buy a decnt HOTAS flight stick aswell as TrackIR cause this game is so awesome.
You will map keys after each fight cause you noticed: ♥♥♥♥, it would be quiet advantageous to have this or that mapped on my stick!

After playing this game you think differently about aircraft. Flew the SU-27 and did a pugachevs cobra once? Then you feel awesome as ♥♥♥♥. You will know how dangerous missiles are because the process is not just "Ohh let me pop some flares / chaff". You know you need to judge if its a Heatseeker or not and plan your defence on that.
You will begin to start to think like a fighter pilot. Sit in a large aircraft traveling the world: "Ohh that was a nice takeoff / That was a hard landing, glad the pilot nailed it". Why do you think like that? The pesky airline pilots calling themselves "captain" are laughable. You know better than them how hard it is to fly a plane and what they do is nothing compared to that.

10 / 10 after you play this game and someone would show you what buttons to press in your favourite aircraft you could fly it if you don't black out cause you're a gawddamn nerd that hates doing sports like me.
