My review is based on all expansions, not really vanilla. I was attracted to this game due to its art style and cute little Chester. Little did I know this artsy survival game had more to offer than most survival games I've played. Unless you have ROG you're missing out on a lot of content. Don't Starve is far from forgiving, at times you might feel the developers had an evil laugh when coming up with ways to kill us helpless survivors. Don't Starve ROG feels like vanilla to me now, playing Don't Starve itself is not enough to give the game its justice, in my opinion. Don't Starve has a lot of depth, if you're more than just a casual there are so many different things to do on this game besides survive year one. (If you can make it past summer) I do wish, however, Klei put more effort into end game (other than caves OFC) I also feel SW is lacking as an expansion but all in all the price for this game in general feels awfully low for something so wonderful, I would've paid a lot more. If you don't like surviving on your own make sure you give DST a try, the community is great, I prefer Don't Starve over Don't Starve Together but that's just my cup of tea. PS, too the noobs, if you're sceptic due to one death causing your world to be erased, there are items you can craft or things you can find in order to have several lives, not only that, but also mods. The mod community for this game is HUGE, if you ever find yourself bored or feel like you need the game to be a little easier, you could try using mods. Some mods completely change Don't Starve, some make the game easier by adding items and characters, or tweaking things, other mods make the game harder. Don't Starve is a great game and the developers are fantastic and helpful.

Don't Starve, oh how I loved you so. For those first few games, you were everything I ever wanted: a game based solely around survival. However, after a while, things got... different. I found that it was impossible for me to just stay there and play it, despite my urges to give it another chance. I wondered to myself why I just couldn't find any more fun out of this game, and just left it in my library. I couldn't figure it out.

After a few months, I came back, willing to give it another go. I couldn't, again. This time, I began to realize what was so undesirable about this game.

In the beginning, when I first got this, I was impressed by the art, the quality, and the apparent need for every single thing in that game to kill me. I loved it. However, permadeath is quite brutal. The early game, aka the first few days, are very repetitive, and if you are new to this game, you'll be seeing a lot of it. The same basic things, build an axe + pickaxe, find gold, hoard carrots, etc. You repeat it so many times that the magic is gone; poof. The endgame, I know, is fantastic; there are so many different things to do. However, I never have the patience to get through the agonizingly repetitive beginning.

Moving on, we find the random world generator. Oh god, it has caused me so much misery. I saw another review cover this exact same thing, so I'll try to keep this short. The world is absolutely massive, and will take a lot of time to explore. However, it is all split up into different biomes, and those biomes can be quite massive too. If you spawn somewhere undesirable, it takes forever to find what you need. The last thing I want to do is go in a single direction for many ingame days, just to find some stone or gold. What's that? You want some manure for farms? Have fun trying to find the herds. I suppose I could edit how often things show up in my world, but what's the fun in that?

I can already hear you saying: "But what about Don't Starve Together, the wonderful multiplayer? Wouldn't a friend solve your problems and make it more enjoyable?"
Now, I got the main game and its multiplayer spinoff on sale as a bundle. To put it simply, a friend helped make some better experiences, but honestly didn't solve those main problems I listed above. Besides, in my experience, it causes inevitable frustration and hatred (being a ghost for 10 days because friend can't figure out how to revive me, accidentally possessing and burning our stuff, etc.)

In conclusion, the game CAN be fun for someone who is more patient than me. However, you have to sit through grinding the same things over and over again to get to the fun things, and the game certainly doesn't make it any easier to survive and... well... not starve.

One of favorite games. Visually appealing and has a great (dark) story. There's nothing better than trying to survive while the panic of winter approaches. Best part is Chester though. Reviewing just for Chester. 12/10 would recommend this game just for Chester.

Bought the game, sat down for a first play through.

"Ok, this is interesting, but it's not the best thing I've played. It's been like 20 minutes and I'm not that blown away-- *glances at clock*

It's ok.

Very good game, can be frustrating, you will die.... a lot. Good fun though,

Made me appreciate survival type games, wouldn't have looked wice at them before. When i first played this it was free on the playstation 4, having just built a gaming pc i decided i wanted this game first.

Not everyone's cup of tea, and some may find it hard to get into, but very enjoyable game

"Oh, i just bought this gam-" -Killed by a Bee.
"Ok, one more try" - Killed by a Bee.
"100 days!, 2 giants, 4 seasons, I'm invincible!" - Killed by a Bee.

The Tim Burton style fits this game perfectly, with a bit of survival, and fighting.

>You will fight Giants, Spiders, Metal Chess Things

>You will find Berries, Carrots, Bunnies

>You will have to kill the Bunnies to get Morsel, Pigs/Beefalos/Tallbirds (yes, birds that are, guess what, TALL) to get Meat, Spiders/Merms/Werepigs to get Monster Meat

>You will have to cook all of them if you want to survive.

>You will have to build a shelter if you want to survive.

>You will be INSANE, totally INSANE.

>You will see things. A lot of things.

>You will starve.

>But most importantly... YOU WILL DIE. A LOT.

One of my absolute favorite games. It's quite a challenging game, especially until you get the hang of things. It's a dark, twisted survival game where pretty much everything is trying to kill you. You've got to scavenge, build things, and defend yourself, all while trying to pay attention to the environment (weather) and the fullness of your stomach. The developers also seem to be constantly updating the game and adding huge amounts of awesome content for free. It just keeps expanding and you just keep wanting to play again and again. Highly recommended!

October 2014 Edit: Multiplayer is coming to Don't Starve! It's currently in closed beta at the moment, but should be coming along eventually!

Don't Starve is one of the games I will never forget!I'm sure you ask yourself why? Let me explain:
When I saw the game I were like ,,Naahhhh I'm not going to buy this.'' but a few days later I looked a second time and tought ,,Why not?It looks funny. And it says you can celebrate with your piggy friends.'' that was when I bought it. I can tell you I got addicted to the game. The first day I played 12 h's. I told my brother and my friend they should buy it. They did it and got addicted, too. I think nearly every Computer can run the graphics and the the characters are funny, too. With every game I started a new story war born. For example I started my first game and forgot to make a fire when the night came up I died and I was like ,,Why?I should have know''. And I learned with every new day that the game hates me. The game likes to punch you in the face. And the community is amazing. In the forums you can see artist, storywriters, survivers and so on. Pretty fast updates with new content to explore and even merchandise. It's a tip for everyone who like survival games. You will love it.

Graphics: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Sound: 10/10

I hope you enjoyed my review. If yes press the like button :§D

Do I recommend this game? Hell yes. Every single time you start a new game file, it's an entirely random generated world where nothing is the same as the last. You can play this game for weeks and still not discover all its secrets. It's a sandbox strategy game that keeps you on your toes for anything and everything that's trying to kill you. And believe me, there's a hundred and one monsters who all want your face on a platter.

1. Always have a means to make fire. Always.
2. Pigs are your friends. Build your base near them.
3. Spiders are not.
5. Beefalo herds are awesome. Fill your pockets with their endless poo. Great fire fuel.
6. Prepare for periodic hound attacks. Make spears and tooth traps.
7. Pick flowers.
8. Not starving is the LEAST of your worries.

Spiders will murder you.
Hounds will murder you.
Bunnymen will murder you.
Trees will murder you.
Tentacles will murder you.
Shadows will murder you.
Giants will murder you.
Penguins will obliterate you.
Bees will f**king destroy you.

And that's only if you don't starve first.

A great, fun game to play in your free time.
Includes deaths features like:
Tree Giants of Meanie-ness
Going Insane
(The funny thing is, most of the time you don't die from starvation...)

No matter now much food you save up, no matter what clothing you create, and no matter how long your beard is, a frog is all it takes to destroy your life and make you rage harder than Leonardo DiCaprio at an Oscars event.
9.5/10 Love it.

This survival rougelike is excellent. You are trapped in a cruel, randomly-generated world where everything wants to kill you, and left to fend for yourself in the wilderness. You will start off with nothing, collecting supplies to make a fire and survive your first night. The goal is simple -- survive for as long as possible.

The randomness of the world generation keeps it fresh for every playthrough. There are countless ways to die, ranging from freezing to death to getting mauled by a tentacle. Once you die, you will be forced to start anew, which can be frustrating.

I seriously love this game, and it really is worth picking up. You should also pick up the DLC which adds a lot more challenge to the game. This game is EXTREMELY addicting.
