I've played this game on and off since it'ss beta and it's soaks up so many hours of my time. Typically they have Welcome Back bundles and the events are pretty good. I would recommend it to my friends, but usually we just joke about going back and playing Maple again. Still... good way to spend a couple of hours just mindlessly grinding and doing quests.

This was my first MMO experience back in 2006 way before there were the 30+ classes there are today. It started with 4 classes with 2-3 branches each. It's changed so much and yet I still play. This is the ONLY MMO that can keep me coming back. The combat is simple and the skills are flashy. A lot has changed in 10 years but it's still the same 2D side scroller I remember.

It won't let me play on my steam controller and it says I can, the keyboard settings are too complicated, and there are way too many worlds and characters to choose from.

Repeat after me; "I am not bored enough to start playing MapleStory again."
However, if you ever are bored enough to play MapleStory again it has most likely changed so much since the last time you played it that you experience it brand new again.

If you are looking to try MapleStory for the first time I would go into it with the mindset of "This game is meant for children, but that doesn't mean I can't have fun playing it." Because the graphics, dialog, and even the animations are very childish but it is a fun game that will eat all your spare time for roughly two weeks, and then it will sit in your library for a few months. Then you'll delete it, then re-install it roughly one year later and repeat the process.

Actually pretty fun if you got time to burn in your day or friends/guild members to grind/chill with.

Money/Gearing is not that bad if you know/learn where to farm or have friends to spare you some starting money or guilds who are willing to take you into their runs.

Class diversity is massive, a little too massive, it can get overwhelming, since there are the base Explorer jobs, the Cygnus Knights who are Explorers but easy and focus on specific styles, then we got the Heroes(who recently got reworked) like Luminous you uses Light and Dark magic, Evan the dragon tamer, THEN we got the Sengoku's, Hayato and Kanna, AND ♥♥♥♥ING THEN Demon Slayers, basically A LOT of classes to choose, though some are obviously easy to gear/use than others(looking at you Luminous)

Overall, if you are okay with hard farming/grinding, go right ahead and hit the game, hell there is a server specifically for players who don't want to rely on cashing, called Reboot.

Ah, MapleStory. My very first Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game. Where should I start? Ah, well, as a naive 14 year old teenager, I figured this was the most amazing thing. I noticed that my sister had installed it on the toaster of a tower we had at the time, and I joined at around 2 weeks in on the Dual Blade class' release date. It was a remarkable experience to say the least. Everything was alien and I had no idea where to start. Distributing stats where they did not go and purchasing ridiculously gear that was not needed was only the beginning of my journey in MapleStory. I met a valuable friend who I still know up to this day, and is probably the only good thing I received from this tarnished game. I will admit, it offered an unforgettable experience, but looking back now, I already grew out of it, or rather, the game grow out of me. Its updates pushed me away.

Before you assume I am one of those, "Big bang ruined MapleStory" people, note that I played even after this update. In fact, I played on and off with months of intervals at a time, thanks to real life things going on, until right before the RED update. I expanded my horizons and played other MMORPGs that my friend dragged me to. However, despite all those things, MapleStory kept calling back to me. I would often quit due to frustration and I realized the game was just not the same anymore with the introductions of so many new classes and the changes that were given. Mind you, I like change and embrace it, but MapleStory was one of those things that were given TOO MANY changes, and that alone was enough to drive me away. Eventually, it got to the point where I just stopped playing. From months at a time, I would get this nostalgic feeling to go back and pick up the game again, but then I realized how much the game urges you to make multiple characters, to work as much as you can on them for link skills and the like, and frankly... that was too much to fit into my daily life.

MapleStory was great game in its, however, the folks at Nexon have horrible customer service and the term, "Balance" means nothing to them, not to mention the North American community itself is pure cancer, full of idiots and immature children who just started growing their first chin hairs. I for one, no longer crave this game and if you look at my playtime hours, I indeed picked it up one last time and thought, "Yup, I totally grew out of this game", and was finally able to let it go.

  • Stays true to being massive and having tons of things to do.
  • It has over 30 classes to choose from.
  • Has the ability to drag you in and never let you go like a true MMORPG.(If you are into that kind of thing)
  • First 20 level tutorial offers a chance to change your character's cosmetics to one of your choosing. (Hair and face)

  • Mini-game system is a horrible alternative for player versus player content.
  • Community is dead, not even megaphones about guild gossip and over priced items that you will never get exist.
  • All the real good players left a long time ago
  • It is too much of a money sink for temporary cash shop cosmetics or gambling for permanent clothing. You are darn lucky that your equips actually CHANGE your character's looks, albeit ugly.
  • It urges you to create multiple characters to take advantage of their set bonuses, thus wasting more time in the game.
  • Potential system separates the neckbeards from the whelps.
  • Broken economy

Played it since the start. Has been a really good time waster since I was a wee child.
All the casuals have left.
Only Large Guilds, Newbies and Addicts are left.
Unless you can find some friends (Or bring them yourself) the late game is abit of a pain in the ♥♥♥.

9/10 fondest childhood memories.

One of the best MMO RPGs back in the day. Not as popular nowadays, but still pretty fun. A huge variety of classes to choose from, each with their individual special abilities. The artwork is great and overall fun game. Also has a good story/plot. It is now very newbie-friendly, so anyone new can pick it up easily. Some parts gets grindy, however.

Maplestory is a game that I have played for AGES! I love it and I keep coming back to it. There are always new classes, quests, zones, and events that keep making this game fun! I know a lot of people are turned off by the 2D gameplay, but I like to think it add to the charm of the game! TLDR: It's GUD!

I've played this game since I was 10 years old when it came out in america.

The best way to describe maplestory is a deep, deep hole out in the woods.
When you are bored and looking for something to do you fall into this hole.
At first you are scared, you panic and try to get out of the hole.
But slowly, you begin you like it in the hole.
You spend thousands of dollars on making this hole cooler, nicer, and do more dps.
You meet friends, lovers, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥s inside of this hole, it begins to feel like a community.
Then high school girl drama will go down, and you will sell all your gear and quit.
You will struggle to climb out of this hole. And finally....you're out.

You go back to the way your life was before, and you become happy again.

After a couple of months...you feel this craving...this...hunger...
You miss the hole. Sure, the hole has its ups and downs...but you...you were safe in the hole...you were...home...
So you go back, and thus begins the never ending downward spiral of your life.

10/10 would quit and play again.
