I'm not really a fan of this game, for the game itself, but the roleplaying community is better here than on any other MMORPG that I have found. Smaller, but that means you get to know everybody. I recommend it for peopel who want to RP, but if you're looking for a game that'll be fun to level and do engame stuff, or PvP, I would look elsewhere.

I havent even played the game, and i instantly dislike it.Why?because even the installation is broken.Every solution that i found turned out to be useless. It keeps looping over and over again, wasting all my internet quota.Until the problem is fixed,i wont recommend the game.

On Steam i only have some 200h but that because i only recently downloaded it on steam. In truth ive been playing this game for over 6 years. I recommend this game to everyone, may not have the most amazing graphics in comparison to some of the new games that came out, but its story line, and huge map is amazing 10/10.

I played this game from open beta and loved it. After Mirkwood came out a few things in my life had me put LotRO on hold. I came back about 2 months ago and it feels like a different game. That being said, it's not a bad thing, just different from what I remember. Not dramatically different but enough to make it interesting. It is still one of the best MMOs I've ever played (going all the way back to Ultima Online before EA or whoever got a hold of it and ♥♥♥♥ed it all up).

The game follows the books pretty closely (and not the movies). So if you like Tolkien and are looking to get into a MMO, this is the right place for you. Even if you haven't read the books and just seen the Hobbit and Rings trilogies, there is enought in the game for you to say, "Ah, I remember that!"

The game is a little old but that doesnt take away from its charm. It being older means the the graphics are not all HD/3D/VR-esque but are not too bad in hindsight. The story and quests drive you to want to go to the next part of the game and leveling is not that bad. The quests make it interesting to the point that it doesn't feel like a constant grind. Not to say that there isn't a grinding element to it.....it is a MMO after all.

I'd give it a 9/10, just because I'm a fan of the books and they actually took the time to get it right.

One of the oldest and best MMOs out there. If you love stories in games this is a good choice. It has 100s of hours of stuff to do. The recent server consolidation means the worlds feel much busier and server choice isn't as important as it used to be. The game also has one of the nicest communities I've seen in any game. The free to play model is a bit unusual, it's not exploitative in any way but I'd recommend VIP for at least a month.

Now on the bad side: the graphics are a bit dated now but the landscapes can still be stunning. Combat animations are slow, which makes combat feel a bit sluggish. The game is also far too easy when levelling up, but this is fixed at higher levels.

Overall I'd highly recommend it.

Great story driven MMORPG that is very immersive. Also one of the very few MMOs that does Bards / Minstrels right.

The level scaling instances are amazing. Love leveling via skirmishes.

Needs more Aussie players on Crickhollow!

The Lord of the Rings Online is by far the Best MMORPG I've kind of played. I was a late to the game, but I subbed for a few months with some friends (and even more since f2p). The fellowship quests and group content is as solid as it gets for old school MMORPGs. A time came when new and shiny things came and Lotro was left behind for me and my pals, But I still go back every now and then. I love the rich lore/story, the fantastic graphics (even today they look good), and the truley epic settings.

LOTRO at first glance when playing is odd. I totally understand when someone says they just didn't like it. Yet at it's core, this game is as good if not better than any MMORPG made during it's time. It just does things a little differently. For instance it tries really hard to stick to the books (the I.P it draws from-not the movies) so there are no mages or wizard classes bc the only Wizards are the famous ones - (Gandorf, Radhadgas, Sarapmon). There are however classes who play like mages using knowledge of powders (Lore Master), ancient runes (Rune Keeper), and...music (Minstrel). There are no "hit points" or health. The green bar is morale, and when it reaches zero you die..so yeah its health, but not really, and some abilities are just silly like the crowd control Burglar ability "riddle" (in the heat of combat you tell a riddle and the enemy thinks about it for like 20 secs). Thats what Lotro does. It holds true to the lore of the book and the world it created. Each class is very fun and there are quite a few 'one of a kind' classes in Lotro. So often mmos copy paste classes. At the start of the game, the music is not great, your gear looks like barf, and you're screaming at enemies to do damage. It's different and these can push ppl away, but the music is optional, lotro has an amazing (before it's time) outfit/wardrobe system that is fully customizable with dyes and overlays, and screaming at enemies lowers their morale so get over it.

The main reason I don't play it very much is the lack of friends who will play it. Like many MMORPGs back then, playing with friends is a tricky and often demanding experience. Need to be on the same server, and need to be near the same levels. Servers have merged, players are a bit low, but It's still good and the Free to play model isn't horrible. You can do anything by grinding Deeds. The f2p model locks out questing zones and trait slots, and sometimes the paygates get annoying, but if you don't care to grind deeds it's really not that big of a deal. Especially if you make alts bc their deeds count towards the in game currency too. If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings in any form, nothing beats exploring and visiting all of the awesome iconic places you've only read about or seen in movies. Give it a try! I know I will as long as it's still alive.
