Captain's Log: Day 63
My gunner still won't fire at my intended target. No matter how obvious I make my intentions, he insists on firing at random objects, be it a neutral bridge, a mountain, or our ally. I feel he's doing this in a petty attmept at attention.

My senior engineer will not repair a damn thing, and is passing of bad habits to the rookie. He insists on repairing guns we never use, refuses to put out fires, and never rebuilds the engines that he's let fall into disarray. I'm beggining to wonder if the man suffers from some undiagnosed mental illness.

The rookie, for his part, knows absolutely nothing.

Gunner's Log: Day 63
My captain is a horrible pilot, and never brings me in range of my targets, then insists that it is a result of my horrible aim and lack of attention. I'm half tempted to attempt a mutiny, to overthrow her tyrranical rule, but I know the engineers are too weak willed for such a task.

Our senior engineer seems content to stare at our engines while they are on fire, rather than attempt to extinguish them, and it is horribly annoying. I'm getting the feeling that he doesn't wish to fly on this vessel, and is attempting to bring us all down with it.

As for the rookie, I'm getting extremely tired of having to reload my ammunition because he's replaced it with some obscure new bullet type.

Senior Engineer's Log: Day 63
My captain is driving me insane. She has no empathy, and refuses to give me a commendation for my hard work. She expects me to be at every position at once, and will not hear it when I suggest we attempt to retreat for a few moments to repair our ship.

The gunner is being a jerk, as usual. He still doesn't believe that my fire extinguisher is broken, and won't stay at his gun while he has a perfectly good shot at the enemy. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ needs to stay at his own station, before he breaks something while attempting to fix it.

The rookie is useless. He never listens, and insists on trying to use guns that could not possibly be aimed at our opponents. Why am I always stuck with the incompetent crews?

Novice Engineer's Log: Day 63
After careful observation, I've concluded that nobody on this crew knows a damn thing about their job.

TLDR at bottom.

-Do you enjoy intricate team based gameplay, where you need to trust in the skill of your allies?
-Do you enjoy relatively easy mechanics that are tough to master?
-Do you fancy yourself a leader, that likes to communicate and see his orders carried out by real people?
-Do you love a game with a close tight community, where people follow the rules and everyone is willing to teach you?

If you said yes to any of these Guns of Icarus has a place for you.

-Do you not like having non transparent game mechanics? ( engines below 50% im looking at you )
-Do you not enjoy getting absolutely assblasted by people at the top tier of gameplay when you yourself are new?
-Do you not enjoy a shallow tutorial? Leaving your woefully unprepared at your class job ( Pilots )
-Do you not like NOT having an option to remove disruptive persons from your ship without having to remake a lobby?

If you said yes to any of THESE things. Your early adventures into Guns of Icarus are going to be a nightmare. Beware this is not a game that you will enjoy, on your own, with no friends, to help guide you into things. Although to be fair, the community is always willing to answer questions and help you learn.

I have played this game at the highest tier of play, as Pilot, Gunner, and Engineer. Theres almost nothing else like this game out there. Its intoxicating. Knowing that your ship is a well oiled death machine of personal indiviual skill AND complete trust in your companions. When I play with my clanmates, and we get matched up against other clans of equal footing, its indescribable. Sticking through the learning curve and getting to that lvl of play takes honest time effort and repition.

When I play for fun ( which is all I do nowadays ) I find that matchmaking is underperforming, claiming that a hidden MMR rating is used to match me up against people that have had this game for a couple days, whereas I've put over 1000 hours into this game. DISREGARD ALL PRETENSE OF MMR in public lobbies. There is none or near enough as to make no difference.

If you buy the game, find a clan of people that seem friendly and play often. and just learn the game from them. There are weekly and bi weekly tournaments that are streamed on Twitch, Community fights VS the Developers where the winners get FREE item choice from the store ( pretty awesome tbh )

Almost forgot the steam workshop, where player created items are hand picked by the community to appear in game, if your creative. You could put your hand to work designing cosmetic items that could charge for or let go up for free. Its your choice. In my opinion the process of created work waiting review VS getting it into the game takes way too long. Some of these created icons look simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and need to be in the game right meow.

Gonna wrap this up before I start rambling.

-New players are going to suck for a DAMN LONG time unless you get knowledge from higher lvl players.
-Hard to enjoy on your own, que with friends.
-This games community is the best I have ever encountered in 14 years of video gaming. ( besides new players spamming dumb ♥♥♥♥ in global, I promise you they are the minority )
-Easy to learn, difficult to master mechanics, ( when charged ammo is better in a mortar then greased )
-Community events out the ♥♥♥. Get free stuff.
-The top tier of gameplay is deeply rewarding on a personal lvl, and the memories of your triumphs will go with you to the grave.

This is just my TWO SILVER CENTS. that I decided to leave because I hate seeing stupid reviews saying Oh dis gaem is best buy it!

This review is long over-due

Why Guns is worth a Try.

It is a game of two halves, "lobbies of Icarus" and "Guns of Icarus". Both modes are worth playing. My hours consist of both modes. There are customizations for the ships and your player. Dyes HATS costumes can be unlocked as you progress.

Game modes; King Of The Hill, Crazy King, Death-Match.

Guns of Icarus is the most socially intensive game out there. Where "Team-work is King and communication is key". Think L4D/L4D2 but with more cooperation + friendlier and more forgiving Team-Mates.

As this is not a FPS your ping does not have a huge impact on the game. Have played up to 356ms the game is still playable & match winnable.

GOIO Player-Base is Small and incredibly friendly. We teach the "Scrubs" (new-players) as often as we can. Those whom seek to really learn get our valuable time + they learn so much as we have been where you are. Past that we Work hard to best our peers. A player can even try out against the Muse developers team and if you're on the winning side, you can get Free Store items (not bundles).

Expect people to be salty but not Rude. It is a SteamPunk game about being on-board an Airship. Trolls are dealt with swiftly, but mostly they're new players finding their feet. There is a Code of Conduct you agree to. We like all players to adhere to it. As this keeps the game harmonious. Those whom seek to push the edges find active Mods who deal with any conflict swiftly. But not in an over-bearing way resolution is better than conflict.

Roles are an Engineer (my main class), pilot or a gunner (least important class (imo) only needed for ammo and gun arc buffs) on-board any airship; from a Speedy Squid to the Slowest Pyramidion or the Multi-Manticore Hwacha Galleon. Doing Battle against other airships for control of resource points (Crazy King), or the total destruction of the enemy team in DeathMatch. It is brutal, there will be salt, you will have commands barked at you, it is nothing personal. "REPAIR the HULL!" But the Satisfaction Can always be heard come match end. A good Captain will always pass round the virtual Bottle of "Seppuku-Das Moonshine" comments in crew "how did we pull that off? That was F***** Amazing! Are common-place after a good match. Every match ends with "Good-Sportsmanship" the victors congratulate the losers and many of us offer a Rematch.

The main reward of sticking to it; is never being without a game.

Should have listened to Imortan Joe. Do not, my friends, become addicted to Icarus. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!

Have any Questions feel free to ask anyone in Global or here. We are all really helpful.

Update: The best comment will be gifted a copy of Guns Of Icarus if you don't have it. or a little something something

I have been meaning to write a review for this game ever since I first purchased the game in the summer sales of March 2014. That summer was very steamy... I played non-stop, trying to figure out how to play.

What is the game about?
Well, as far as I can tell, you are a survivor in an apocalyptic reality in which Airships are the main method of travel, merchant transportation and assault. You are a crew member among a crew of four destined to survive and rule the barren wastelands assaulting all who oppose you and defending land from those of seek riches.

Sound Cool? Well, lets descend further shall we?

What ships are there?
I am glad I had to ask myself this question, I truly am because I love piloting, In game, I am always using the different ships and experimenting with different loadouts. There are many different ships!

What a strange name for a ship? What does it look like? What is the main purpose of such a mysteriously named ship?

The Mobula, is a majestic beast - my personal favorite ship. To keep this review *Cough* somewhat short... here is a brief description:

The mobula is a badass pillow with 5 guns all facing forward... in a pillow fight, this ship will deal a lot of damage to you from mid to long range.

Well... that was brief... any other ships?

Wow! am I a philosopher? I am asking very nice questions to myself... Here we go!

Pyramidion - Ramming Pyramid of Justice, Kerosene and Moonshine for the brave.

Spire - Spire? More like Umpire! this ship is a tower of guns with 3 standard and 1 heavy weapon on the front! This ship is powerful if used effectively!

Galleon - A Gallon of heavy artillery! This ship is slow, tanking yet effective at disabling with 4 heavy weapon, this ship can be used in many combinations with heavy weapons, you just need to practice and test them all.

Squid - To Squid or not to Kid? that is the question right? Maybe not but this ship is neither a Kid or Squid... Fact. This is a fast, maneuverable ship which can be greatly used for disabling!

Goldfish - erm... not a very menacing name compared to other ships? what does it do? What this ship lacks in a fearful name, it makes up for in power, do not be deceived by appearances, this ship looks beautiful and has a heavy weapon on the front. This ship is great for dealing a knockout punch with the front gun and then a few side swings with side guns to finish the opponent. A Great ship for new players.

Thats alot of ships? anymore? Let me finish! There is one more

Junker - woah... sounds a little... bad. This ship is a very good support vessel, with 2 standard guns either side and 1 standard gun on the front, this ship can be greatly used to provide support for other ships or to be used to unleash hard hitting attacks on enemies!

ok... thats all the ships...

Thats cool, what about guns? maps? and Tools?

Well my friend, that the beauty of this game? There are many forms of information within the game which will help answer any question. There are a metaphorical tonne of books in the game to have a read for some lore or statistics related to guns, Maps and ships!

Other than that there are also yellow people!

I mean Community Ambassadors! These are people of volunteer as part of the community to provide help for everyone in game, regardless of level and such. You can ask anyone with a yellow name for help and they will assist you!

Are there any other people?

Yes! There are blue people... Colourful.... Blue people are Moderators who, just like Community Ambassadors or CA's for short, will be able to help you. they will also do their best, just as the CA's do, to make the community, a great community.

I love the Guns Of Icarus Community. I have been apart of it for over a year now, I am also now a Community Ambassador. Find me in Game under the alias - The Mann and I will provide you as much help as I can provide.

To all those reading this and thinking... am I insane? Well... you will need to find me in the skies to find out.

To conclude... Guns Of Icarus is a great, developing game and I am sure, you will enjoy it too.

See you in the skies my friends and foes.
