Version 1.4.8 Release Notes

New content:
  • Novice Deathmatch: Novices will now be placed into games versus AI ships. They may opt out at any time, but this will give them a safe place to learn the mechanics of the game. This also makes novice games easier to make since they require half the number of players as from before.
  • New game mode: Skyball. In this sports inspired game mode, compete against your opponents by dragging a cargo barge into their goals to score. Steal the ball by ramming into each other for dramatic plays. Run the ball or defend your own goal!
  • New 4v4 Paritan Rumble! Try not to crash :P

  • Decals:
    - Wrought Iron Manticore (Free, created by Skletch)
    - The Valknut (Free, created by Technoholic)
    - Profiled Pup (Pay, created by ashenlion)
    - Steam Rose (Free, created by Huckleberry Finn)

    - The Liberator (Pay, created by Hue C. Sosnitsky)
    - Kabuto Musha (Pay, created by nebe)

    - Bohemian Dreadlocks (F) (Pay, created by philsip)
    - Picklehauber Pith (M) (Pay, created by A_Harmless_Fly)
    - Picklehauber Pith (F) (Pay, created by A_Harmless_Fly)

  • Revamped VIP rules to count escort kills towards the goal score. VIP kills now count for more.
  • No double reports of player joining/leaving if s/he is a clanmate and also on the friendlist.
  • Lochnagar changes: guns that drop to 1 ammo now do not completely destroy the gun, reverting to more familiar mechanics. However, for clip sizes greater than 1 the same proportional damage per shot still applies. The philosophy remains “repair while shooting” vs. “shoot now, rebuild later”.
  • Lowered intensity of gun effects, projectile trails and flare effects on dark maps.
  • Added notification for the store if steam overlay not enabled.
  • Increased Default Joystick Deadzone for better compatibility.
  • Changed perma-healthbar to 10 tick.

  • Fixed white texture because of painted detail map on Squid player ship
  • Fixed shadow artifacts on Dunes lightmaps on low quality settings.
  • [Linux] fixed rendering artifacts on terrain on some GPUs (primarily Intel HD cards)
  • Engine damage sounds were missing.
  • Reimplemented animations on the Mobula.
  • Fixed fog becoming bright when in both tar smoke and other clouds
  • Colliders on the Squid ship have been changed to prevent snapping, warping, and falling through the floor in some places.
  • Removed highlighting on targets that are in-range when the Tutorial Text option is on.
  • Cooldown ticking sound getting stuck
  • Fixed various unnecessary differences between shader quality settings
  • Fixed rendered fog distance to be more consistent with culling distance on low-visibility maps (e.g. Anglean Raiders), to prevent ships from vanishing while not yet in fog.
  • Fixed several cases of character “rubber banding” when just barely bumping pieces of ship geometry
  • Fixed different shades of fins on different shader quality
  • Fixed voice chat icons/text being under the gradient background of the map
  • Fixed typos in pilot tutorial
  • Fixed workshop decal icons having different background color
  • Removed unnecessary rope on Goldfish
  • Fixed Conductor costume repair animation issue
  • Fixed graphical glitch with Bowler hat
  • Fixed particle effect positioning issue with Hades
  • Fixed soft particles issue on Northern Fjords
  • Fixed an object placement issue with Traveller theme on Galleon
  • Fixed decals hard to see in store in some cases
  • Fixed missing “crew” tab at match end screen
  • Fixed unnecessary “Recruit from Queue” button in lobby menu when a match already started

While I do recommend the game, it is not as active as it once was two years ago. Server population hovers below the 100 mark, and you will be lucky to get a full lobby. New players get decimated due to the fact the only people they meet are veterans who have been playing for years. Highly enjoyable when playing with friends. Guns of Icarus has friendly devs and a great community of about 8 people.

9/10 wish people actually played this game.

im not a fan of arena or pvp type games but this game is great because it focuses more on team building and strengths then it does on pvp it teaches yiu the importance of working as a team i dont recomend the game however for those wgi dont have mic's as this game heavily relies on voice chat all around this gsme is great and by far one of the only online communities that i have found to be extremely helpful to new players ans old players alike

Don't get me wrong, the game is very good and an amazing team experience, but... there's not that many people playing it. I would recommend it, but I'm afraid that you would have to wait extremely long queues to get to enjoy it.
If despite of what I say you want to acquire it, a microphone is recommendable to talk with the crew of your ship.

Truly a hidden gem among the steam clutter. Seriously, this game needs more players. This game's community is surprisingly well-mannered and helpful, even to new players. Getting kills in this game feels earned and like you and your team truly accomplished something. Teamwork and Communication are KEY in this game and i encourage you to either go in with your friends with mics or do your best in text or voice chat with randoms.

This game requires coordination and teamwork. It fosters comradeship and requires leadership.

Pilots also have to have a sense of direction and the common sense not to fly straight into the sodding sandstorm. Or crash into mountains/wrecked cities/obstacles.

I love this game. It's fun, thrilling and does wonders for teambuilding with my community. The other players are friendly, helpful and fun to talk to, although you do sometimes get that bad egg who is quickly put in their place by others.

I have happily pre-ordered Alliance, and I'm keen on seeing what comes next for Guns of Icarus and the Royal Alexandrian Fleet Air Service (AFAS).

Highly enjoyable game with immersive battles and diverse ships and weapons.

Unfortunatly, despite this being true, the game, much like a dark souls NPC (hue reference hue), is also hollow and dieing.
As I write this, it physically pains me to sh*t on this game. Appart from some repetitive parts, this game is more than worth your money, IF you want to play with 2 people out of the 12 players remaining. I am literally depressing myself for writing this, but now you will rarely enjoy this game, IF EVER. The only thing that could even be close to a reviving quality to this game would be the alliance DLC coming out, but EVEN THEN the vets of this game, myself included, wont even care about the DLC, considering that most of us bought the captain's edition and more stuff, and throwing even more money at this game is simply a losing bet.

To sumarize, this game is a ghost town of wonderful, but unrealized dreams and creations that, pardon the pun, sank to the bottom of the sea before it could be saved.
So please, let this game die in peace...

Awesome blimp on blimp combat game. I seriously don't understand why there aren't more people in this, the only conclusion i can come up with is that people have played too many 'i, and i alone, am the hero.. teammates are just meat shields' games and can't take being in a game that actually requires teamplay to win.
So the bad thing about this game right now is that players peak at about 350 on weekends and hover around 150-200 during weekdays :(
The good things, everything else. Plus PVE is coming in soon which will make it fun for people with their own crew to play solo on a drinking night or whatever.

An amazingly fun and addictive game that will either keep you on the edge of your chair or have you sending your keyboard flying through the window when an engineer doesn't do their job. The only real down side to this game is it has a small player base. In the few days I've had it I've only seen it have 319 people online at once. Also it has an amazingly attractive tip box. (You'll get it when you play the good)

I really love this game. I wish I could recomend it, I really do. There used to be 300-500 players on at once, but now you can barely find a match. This is one of my favorite games ever made, but its just dead.

Great game to play with friends. Requires communication and teamwork to succeed. Pretty good graphics, my computer had no problems running it at all; no stutters or lag. community is so far pretty small. Would defnitely recommend this game to friends.

This is the best game I have so far, as a captain I have the hardest job, keeping us from crashing, getting blow up and shot down, aiming the list goes on, now anyone who says never yell at you people that work for you, they will get you killed. Always remember, All your crew are idots, even the top level ones, always yell its the only way to not die a death of dead by ground/boom/fire Now engies (They are the dumbist) are you best change of not doing the ded, make sure you yell very loud at these people, that happens to be the only way they you don't die Now your gunner (Luckly for me I have friends) They are the killy killy guys, make sure they are always on guns with nice bullets, and ready to do the bang bang, as a captain you have to yell, steer, and shout and thats it. ~a passing candy

Guns of Icarus;

In it's current state it's still a very fun game, playing with friends and working as a team to keep your ship in the air can be stressful yet very enjoyable.

In a time on Steam where developers are abandoning games because they're losing players or to work on new projects. Guns of Icarus still receives updates addressing balancing issues, fixes and everything you would expect when you purchase a game, Well done Muse Games, well done.
