Challenge yourself with new strategies and unique setups with the new “Outlaw Sectors” gameplay option and brand new maps for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. The variety of map sizes and designs will let you enjoy any kind of match you want, from intimate 1v1 duels all the way to epic 10-player brawls.

Gameplay Options

The lawless fringe is increasingly hostile, but for those with a criminal mind it's also rich with new opportunities.

Smuggling Specialization: Choose this planetary development to grab a cut of everyone's trade income - but at a cost. The increased corruption from this black market activity will reduce that planet's tax income.

Rampant Militias: Autonomous planetary militias will grow, raid nearby systems, and repopulate over time. Use them to help defend your worlds, or coordinate your attacks with their strikes for maximum impact.

Pirate Turf: Vicious when in their home sector, pirates can now raid multiple players simultaneously, drastically changing the art of the bidding war. And, just to make sure they are fully motivated to do what they do best, all credits spent on bounties will receive an automatic bonus.

About This Game

The Next Installment to the Award-Winning RTS.
While many were hopeful that diplomacy would finally end the war, differing opinions on what should be done, along with the depleted power of the controlling factions, has led to a splintering of the groups involved.

The loyalist members of the Trader Emergency Coalition adopt a policy of isolation, focusing on enhanced defenses to ride out the rest of the war. Those who rebel against the coalition take on a purely militant view, coming to the opinion that the only way to bring peace is by ultimately crushing all who oppose them - especially xenos.

For the first time in their history, the war creates a schism in the Advent Unity. The loyalists seek to continue their policy of revenge against the Traders, and to assimilate all others to the Unity’s influence. However, others amongst the Advent suspect that a corrupting influence from within has diverted the Unity from its proper destiny.

The divide created in the Vasari Empire is less pronounced, but just as severe to their people. With the Vasari now practically frantic to move on to new space, the loyalist faction abandons cooperation and decides to take the resources they need by any means necessary. Having accepted the need to work together, the rebel faction feels that their best chance for survival is to work with the other races and bring them along to flee the approaching enemy.

Take the battle for galactic supremacy to its ultimate level in Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion – a standalone RT4X game that combines the tactics of real-time strategy with the depth of the 4X genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate).

This game is by far my favorite and most played game currently on Steam. Even if you are not a fan of a RTS I highly recommend this game because there is so much content to it. For what you get by just purchasing the game itself is well worth even full price. There is something for almost anyone here and the mods make the game far greater.

Here is a list of my top mods for this game.
1.)Sins of the Fallen-(Compatible with Fall of Kobal) which is Battle Star Galactica.
2.)Sins of the Prophets-which is a Halo mod!
3.)Sins of a Galactic Empire-Which is obviously Star Wars

This game is very mod friendly and best of all features it runs on the system where if you have a friend who is hosting with DLC you can play with them and expirience the DLC first hand before you make a chioce to purchase them or not which is a system currently not being used by recent publishers.

Fantastic series of games - the whole Sins of a Solar Empire series, I mean. Great scale and a very casual pace, that allows you to weigh your options and think through the game. There is a rich and challenging technology tree, and there's variety in the gameplay and situations. Perhaps one fault is the lack of a good single player campaign or story of some kind. The game mechanics could also have taken into consideration things like orbits for planets, to make it a bit nicer. Overall, fresh even after 8+ years, and very fun.

I bought this game originally from Stardock 8 years ago, and eventually bought it again on steam. A staple of my library, always fun to come back to and the visuals are still impressive. The game has also seen extensive support, and 8 years after launch still received DLC from the developer. Also has mod support for even more customization and longevity. A truly impressive game, and unlike anything on the market.

*Excellent balance of 4x game elements in a real time setting ( On-the-fly game speed control available).

*Scalable combat that delivers tactical level strategy, to massive fleet engagements that span multiple fronts and star systems. Ships ranging from fighter craft all the way up to colossal titans and super weapons capable of wiping out entire planets.

*Multiple game customization options and victory conditions. Allows for espionage, economic sabotage, research and conquest victories, to name a few.

*Mod support

I have a hard time coming up with any negatives, but to be fair, the combat and empire management can get a bit unmanageable on some of the larger maps. I also do not play multiplayer, so I can't really speak for the community there. That said, I've put 200+ hours in this game on Steam alone,and probably as much on other platforms and have never grown tired of it. I real gem. 10/10

I like the idea of this game, 4X mixed with RTS. But I just don't like this game, I wonder why.
I hate double DRM, but it's not the reason.
This game lacks a complete tutorial or campaign/story mode, but well it's OK, I normally only play a few campaign battles in RTS games, then only play skirmish once a while.

As a 4X game, SOSE don't give you much time for planning. This game has a big tech tree, and in 4X games I usually take a few minutes to think about which tech direction I want to go at the beginning, but the realtime gameplay just doesn't let me. Well if you played a lot it could become as easy as muscle memory but still, if it is a 4X game, player should have some time for planning.

Star development and ecnomics are simplified a lot compared to other 4X games. More like RTS: Build mining drones, improve the population, build factories, build defence platforms. And then, build as many ships as you can.

Diplomacy seems totally broken. AI hates you at the beginning if you are a different faction. In most 4X games when you meet alien ship, the first thing is a greeting, but here when your fleet meet theirs, they just start firing at each other AUTOMATICALLY, and it hurts relationship. You have to research technology to communicate with AI, before that you may already at war, and even when you finished that technology and offer AI pacts and trades, they just laugh at you and refuse. The only thing you can do to improve relationship is complete their missions, which are usually to attack others, so there is actually no peace play. (If you don't complete them, relationship also gets worse) And AIs just gradually become friendly with each other, because they don't do missions.

As a RTS game, SOSE's battle is very slow paced. It could take a minute to move from one star system to another, with normal game speed setting. And you can only move through certain lanes. So it could take minutes to send reinforcement, and when your fleet gets there the battle is already over.

The fleet battles themselves also looks boring: you move fleets into a star system that has enemies there, and ships just automatically move to each other and start firing. You can control ship movement and manually choose target, but it doesn't help that much: Ship maneuver is super slow compared to projectiles and lasers attack range, you always fight in open space, and often get surrounded at the point you enter a star system. You can't see formations in traditional RTS games here, it's mostly just numbers and rock-paper-scissors that matters: You get more ships, you win. One ship type is stronger against another, you build right things, you win. Furthermore, you upgrade to more advanced tech and get more big ships, you win. Once the battle starts, you can only retreat your fleet, or watch the result. That's good if this is a pure 4X turn based game, but RTS elements are added in, and doesn't work as expected.

The graphics isn't bad, it's quite good considering this is released some years ago. Problem is, you don't have chances to really see details like the screenshots above, if you're playing normally. You would take half your time watching the star map. Clicking on systems to build ships and upgrades. And another half, controlling your fleets moving from here to there, (and this can also be done in the star map interface) and micromanaging fleet battles. Even when you zoom into a star system to control your ships, they look as small as ants. Ship attack range is super long compared to their size, when you zoom in until you can see details, you can't do anything but only watching.

Combining 4X and RTS looks like a good idea, but the 2 elements turn out to be conflicted with each other in many aspects. I think this game did its best, but I don't see it solves all the problems. It's like they put a simplified RTS and a simplified 4X together, and I can't enjoy either of them.

To start im gonig to have to lay in this disclaimer, I easily have over 2000 hours in this game so you cant go by the 120 hours steam thinks I've played. So when I saw that this was on sale this weekend being an old player since the original game I just had to leave my opinions. Which arent relevant because this is simply just the best and most amazing space RTS that has since been released since sliced bread. If your going to get this game and play dont sell yourself short, just get the whole DLC package with it. It is easily worth every penny even if you have to sell your children to afford it. I'm not even going to get into the uh-MAZING StarWars:Interregnum or StarTrek: Armada 3 mods there are. Well maybe a little. StarWars: Interegnum adds the Rebels and the Empire into the game along side the original 3 factions with INCREDIBLE balance while ST:A3 is a total conversion... (you guessed it) startrek mod. Interegnum easily takes the cake being the best mod available since it supplements the vanilla in ways I've never seen mods for other games ever do, plus there are about a dozen great minimods for it.

Sins is truly one of the best strategy games ever made. Played 100's of hours before I even bought it on steam; thats right this game is so fun that I have bought it twice. If you are looking for a epic 4x game, look no further.

If you like large scale RTS battles with units strewn about the galaxy this is the game for you.
Sins offers a wide selection of maps to choose from as well as a custom map generator. Large tech trees and very interesting races with unique play styles.

Its a huge scale Space RTS with a Star Trek Mod, a Star Wars Mod, and a hopefully successful Warhammer 40k mod. It features fleet action in the hundreds, planet counts into the lower hundreds, and best of all it runs on lower scale toasters.

Buy the damned game already.

if you want a guarunteed good strategy game, you can always count on stardock, this is the best real time strategy game i have ever played, been playing for a couple years now and its still addicting, no other strategy game even comes close to having this amount of depth to it, all other companies that develop real time strategy just need to move the ♥♥♥♥ over, the winner was decided 8 years ago

Best game ever since i use to play Star Wars Empire at War. This made me get that feel back and lots of mods you can use. Using Sins of the Prophets made me now feel like im playing Halo Wars with Space Battles.
Its hard at first for those who are new to the game. Though playing, watching youtube videos, and practice (even though you may lose). It is a fun game to play and lots of modding out their for you to make it more of what you want.
Like: Sins of the Prophet (halo), Star Wars, Mass Effect, Star Trek, and many more.

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes games like these.
