I just realized I have never reviewed my favorite MMO before. So why is it my favorite? Because it caters to every single play style you can think of (soloers, duoers, groupers, raiders, casuals, hardcores, etc...). It has so much content you will literally be blown away by just how much you can do in this game. It comes out with a nice sized expansion every single year along with weekly updates to the game.

You want story? EQ2 has VERY deep lore. I don't follow the story, but I know there are books upon books of the lore EQ2 currently has.

Want quests? There are currently nearly 9,000 quests in the game. And they ain't all as simple as "Go kill this and return" type of quests. A lot of quests can take hours if not days to complete, very epic stories. Many types of quests including Hallmark, Lore & Legend, Language, Crafting, Heritage, Epic, Access Quests, Missions, the list goes on and on.... Not a single player has ever completed every quest in the game. Far from it actually.

There is SO much to this game, I don't want this review to get long. Just check it out! Its free. Restrictions are far from bad, its one of the less restrictive f2p games on the market.

The least flawed of all the MMORPGs presently out. If you are a fan of the MMO genre, you absolutely must try this game. It sucks you in from the first click and doesn't let go. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all here and representing the best there is to offer in the MMO pride.

I didn't even get to playing the game itself. After making a character the game told me that my character customization was invalid and I'd have to make a complete new different character. Didnt bother trying again. I won't tell anyone not to play this game because the gameplay itself might be great and others might not have this problem, but for me this is a huge letdown.

This game might be a good game, if Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) would actually let you play it. To play, you need to get a (free) account with SOE. Chances are, however, that when you then try to log in, you'll get a 'Wrong Username or Password' error.
Theoretically you'd then submit a support ticket, but to do that you need to log in to their website—which is exactly what you can't do because of the aforementioned error message. SOE's suggestion on their website: create a temporary second account and use that to contact Support. Guess what: you get the same error, so you still can't file a support ticket. Same thing with a third account and the fourth account (for which I pretended to live in the US, in case it might help).
SOE Support doesn't have an email address, but if you can't log in, you can either contact them by phone (which adds up quickly if you have to call from abroad), or contact them through Twitter (@SOEHelp). Unfortunately, the help they provide through Twitter is limited to 'contact us through our website.' Yeah, very helpful if being unable to log in is why you try to contact them in the first place.
I've spent almost two weeks trying to get some actual help from SOE Support. Then I gave up and removed the game from my computer. I'm sure the higher-ups will be thrilled to hear that their support staff has cost them a customer.
So, there's a good chance you won't be able to play EverQuest II at all, and if you're one of the fortunate who do get to play it, don't expect any help from SOE Support.

One of the best if not the best free rpgs out there.Definitely in the league with WoW! It has one bad side tho(a little one):It might seem a little weird and slobby at the start and you might not be able to understand the basics at the very first time but when you come to think of it,its not complex at all...Its just kind of different.I surely suggest this game to any rpg fan out there!Hope it helps!

Played this for several years before it went F2P. I've yet to find an MMO that I've enjoyed more. Only problem coming back is that now my level 90 character is virtually unusable since his tier gear is locked for Premium players. While that has personally driven me to try other MMO's, EQ2 remains a fantastic MMO with a rich world and, at least when I played it, solid mechanics. I highly reccomend it.

I love the EQ franchise, and played this when it launced in 2004. It's so nice to revisit an old favorite. I enjoy it so much I am, as of this posting, subscribed and reaping the membership level benefits. Can't get enough!

Everquest 2 is in the same league as World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and even the new Final Fantasy MMO, but none of these other games are so evolved they’ve revolutionized the overall experience. This results in an overload of similar content presented through different layers of graphics, lore, classes, creatures and underlying support systems (such as crafting and raiding). Don’t get me wrong, many of the games have “unique perk features” (e.g. GW2 allows you to dodge attacks), but these perk features don’t qualify as bringing MMOGs to the next level of gaming experience.

EQ2 trumps the competition when it comes to overall content, playability, many features and functionality; and in some cases far beyond the other games.

1. Mercenary, which is like having another player with you, a single character can solo most of the dungeons and heroic areas/monsters of the game. This opens all players who use a mercenary up to the majority of the content without having to look for a group and rely on others to play.

2. Alternate Advancement, a system that allows the player to decide what percentage (up to 100%) of their experience they want to go to this secondary point system, which opens some new skills.

3. Quests, EQ2 has an unique balance of presentation for it's quests. The players can quickly and blindly click through things to move on through the next step whereas players who are heavy into a storyline/lore can interact and engage with the NPC. The rewards are also well designed and refined imo.

4. Guild, EQ2's guild system brings their players together, sharing their accomplishments and keeping them connected better than any other MMO. The guild system with automatic notifications toward the player's achievements, level gains, and finding valuable items. It also has a built in Voice Chat which works great. EQ2 has the best Guild system out of all mmo games. Period. EQ2's guild system also have the Guild Hall (home of the guild). No other mmo game comes remotely close afaik.

Five years into playing this, I have yet to find another MMO that immerses me in quite the same way or has the variety of content for all playing styles. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.
