If it was not for the game the SEGA CD would not sell really well in the same concept where Rob the Robot sold the NES back in the day. The SEGA / MEGA CD was a rididulously priced add on for its time and it produced some good gems and known for their hillarious novelty. The developer of this game from what I read online built this game from scratch to make it HD. They did a very good job of building this game. However, I can't understand why the Japanese Intro when you start a new game does not have any lyrics to it. Because of the Smooth Framerate you may have difficulty passing certain points of the game. The worst part of the game is Stage 2-3 (I think is Collision Chaos) The Smooth framerate makes it next to impossible to go up to the top and defeat Dr Robotnik) You need real skill to do this. It was easier in the Sega CD Edition. This game is a worth addtiion to your collection but its not a true emulation of the original game like the Sega Genesis indivudal titles are. You have been warned.

Sonic CD may look on first try as a repeatative game, but it is not. Every zone in this game has its own unique ideas which are executed well. An extremely great soundtrack( play it on JP ) and many secrets to find. Sonic CD is a hidden gem that should at least be tried by any Jump and run fan. The combination between the secrets, the great level design and the soundtrack is it worth to give it a try!

Rating 8/10

Sonic CD is a 2d plaform adventure game.

For the game who do know what sonic is about... very simpel... you are blue hedgehog and he likes to go fast !!!
This is a perfect port from the original Sonic CD from the '90 era.
I've played the original and this new version has so many improvements.
Not only sounds as graphics are much better now you have the option to play ase other characters and have more than 1 saves.
Alle video's are high quality now and this makes the Sonic CD game complete.

I've played all the old games and I think Sonic CD is one of the best from the Sega Mega Drive Era
Controling sonic characters feels very smooth and you have the feeling of real speed.
Race your way though the levels to defend the evil !!!

Great updated Sonic game and plays very good.
I give it a 8/10 score.

Simply the best Sonic game of them all.

I was lucky enough to have a SegaCD growing up and got to experience this game "back in the day". And I can confirm this is a phenomenal port. It was rebuilt from the ground up but stays perfectly true to the original. Perfectly. Then it goes above and beyond by adding extra cotent, unlockables, all versions of the soundtrack, etc. Just absolutely phenomenal work. Lots of love went in to this and this game deserves every bit of that love. Add in a more than reasonable price of $4.99USD and this is a steal especially in a packaged deal or sale.

This game has the most replayability of any 2D Sonic. The deepest gameplay concepts. The best sound and music. Best cutscenes. AND the best sense of speed, which is Sonic's main claim to fame afterall!

Its a shame so many fans of Sonic have missed this title over the years. But with this version existing on Steam you're out of excuses! Buy it.

Like Sonic? Like platformers? Like rad 90's soundtracks? Like bright, colorful detailed levels? How about time travel? This game is for you. It's not only the best Sonic game, but also one of the greatest platformers from the 16 bit era. Unlockables, Time Trial, both American and Japanese soundtracks, and a smoother video filter warrant a purchase as opposed to emulating, especially since you can grab it for a few bucks.

The PC port is so good that in the controls section it shows the Sega CD controls. It has potential 8/10.

Being a huge fan of the classic Sonic games, I can safely say that this game was a lot of fun to playthrough and I can’t believe it has taken me this long to play it

Also I loved the Tidal Tempest Zone because it felt a lot like the Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1

-Cons
Very ♥♥♥♥ing creepy secret message in this game, if you have a kid or lil brother to show it to, I don't really recommend it...
There's a really disturbing face that you can see if you get a code, as a teen or adult, it'll probably startle you or even scare you for a while.

LOL, no offense, but thrill junkies can buy this game since that scary content is in it, or, just look up the face.

AUDIO: Amazing                                              AESTHETIC:
MEMORABILITY:                                              WORTH:

PROS: This is one of the most solid ports I've ever seen; Text file/Instruction manual info, -both- the JP/EU soundtrack options, other gameplay modes. Everything works as intended and a little extra is given. Clearly the people involved cared about the project. The game itself is one of the very last -great- Sonic the Hedgehog games. The past/present/future system is very neat and can be disregarded, or used to obtain different endings. The game is colorful and both soundtrack options are superb.

CONS: The level design in this one is kind of all over the place. Around here is where they began to lose the idea of what made Sonic flow so well in previous games, and that's really bad for the time travel system that requires you to reach and maintain max speed. Motion-sickness is also pretty bad for this one since they began to explore vertical worlds.

OVERALL: Many would say this is the best 2D sonic to date. Others would say it's one of the worst of the series. The game has its flaws, but has great traditionally-animated cutscenes and beautiful levels. If you like Sonic, it's worth a shot-- You'll at least walk away with an absolutely amazing soundtrack.

SCORE: 8/10

22 years later after a leap forward of the evolution of gaming, Sonic CD remains one of the most exceptional classics. The way the "elements of gameplay" are mixed, applied and executed into this game creates an experience that retrieved the meaning of "platform". How this Retro game relies on the pace and the time travel with the great soundtrack is just very "innovative" and helps renew my motivation to playing. This is one of the games that very easily can define an era of plaformer. GUARANTEED!

2D Sonic is always the best you can get from the blue hedgehog, especially the outings on the Megadrive/Genesis. The MEGA/SEGA CD add-on was a disaster but brought arguably the best Sonic game of them all in Sonic CD. Brings the best of what Sonic 1 & 2 done best and tweaked the working formula to achieve the best of both worlds. With time travel features to make each stage have a different feel to it in past, present and future versions of each zone there is a lot more to explore than usual.

On top of being one of the best Sonic The Hedgehog games, it has one of the best soundtracks of all-time which would almost make the game worth playing alone. In a VIP list of what Sonic games are actually genuine top quality, you wouldn't be wrong putting this as the pinnacle of the series just above Sonic 2.

WOW!

I am blown away. This is probably one of the best platformers I've ever played. This is the one true Sonic game where it simply gets everything right. The soundtrack holds a disco-style theme to it, and the level design looks shinny and futuristic. Each level has about a dozen ways to progress through it, and the layout will change from a "future" them to a "past" theme which I found quite weird but cool either way. The game is quite short so get it on a sale. Props to Sega for porting this old classic over to Steam. It runs flawlessly

Sonic CD is a childhood favourite. I realy enjoyed this game and I think you will, too. It's much better than Frozen. This is a game of sneaky shortcuts. There is a hidden surprise of oozing salted caramel and raspberry coulis. Jeremy Piven has probably has the hardest job in the movie, playing the triple roles of Sonic, Amy, and Dr. Robotnik. As I mentioned before, the music is kind of cheesy. But anyway, great visuals, great music, it's just an all around great game. It was fun, it was cool, it was packet, it was 999. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. It's fun for ages 8 to 80. You should buy it now before it's sold out.
