What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

The Temple Of is an evolving experience. It will need as much feedback as it can receive as development continues. The game is designed to be greatly influenced by its players - why not include them in its production?”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6 months. Development has progressed enough to allow for open public feedback, but is not yet ready for full release. Some features (including an in-game marketplace and potential tomb customization options) must wait till the foundation is stable. Half a year should be enough time to iron out the kinks and identify which aspect of the project should be highlighted.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“This project is about a bond between community content and procedural generation at its core. These things take time to adapt to one another. The algorithm for level generation must be perfected and player made tombs (incorporated into the level design) must become more accessible.

Player-Made Tombs: At the moment, the player-made tomb designer is only accessible (one instance at a time) after beating the twentieth tomb. Players should have access to this tool from the start. The building blocks at the player's disposal within the designer will be (If Things go according to plan), eventually, tied to the overall gameplay experience (ie: the player finds an ancient artifact, the player can either sell it in the black market or add it to their custom tomb). Disclaimer: While the improved and more accessible version of the Player-Made Tomb Designer is a part of the plan, there is no guarantee that it will be eventually included

.This, coupled with fixed bugs, optimization, and player/tomb customization (guns, skins, tomb style/culture, tools, etc) from the "curator" menu are part of the plans to be included in the full version

All features listed below are planned ideas, but are still subject to change

.Curator - player and gameplay customization

.Black Market - marketplace to buy and sell Curator or Tomb Designer items

.Tomb Designer - a level designer to customize rooms that get added to the global tomb generation database

.Multiplayer - Two or more players can work together to complete the game and reap the reward”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This phase is all about public feedback. What features are fun and which are aggravating? This project is years in the making. Time for it to see some light.

The game's foundation has been laid. Full gameplay (start to finish) is already present. There are procedural content additions on a weekly to monthly basis. The Player-Made Tomb Designer is included at the game's end (hard as that may be to reach). An adventure with countless weapons, puzzles, natural disasters, treasures, monsters, and environments (fully procedurally generated) has already been built.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The pricing will increase after Early Access is over. The time to begin (and assist with) the adventure is now.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Any suggestions, discoveries, or feature requests can be emailed to admin@thetempleof.com. A reply is not guaranteed, but all emails will be considered and reviewed.”

About This Game

The Temple Of

The Adventure Begins

The Temple Of is a Roguelike Dungeon Crawler game. It is 3D, procedurally generated, and packed with ancient horror around every corner! Use your torch to find secret passageways, treasures, and mysteries all while avoiding (or seeking?) the supernatural. Explore ever changing environments, from dusty and forgotten tombs to subterranean jungles.

Upgrade Your Equipment

You will need to use a plethora of tools, including pistols, machine guns, maps, and explosives to gradually navigate yourself to the Temple's core. Everything you carry can (and will) be upgraded as you progress. Better grenades blast through tougher caves. Better guns tear through mightier foes.

Beware the Curse

From the moment you enter the tomb, darkness will follow. The game's difficulty is a value (the curse) that is directly impacted by the decisions you make. The higher the curse, the spookier (but more rewarding) the game becomes. Creatures (and treasures) will become more abundant. The difficulty (Curse) can be controlled.

Seek The Truth

Knowledge is also a value that can be accumulated. As knowledge is found, doors are opened, powers bestowed, and ancient languages translated. Search for answers, solve puzzles, earn rewards, advance further beneath the temple.

The Final Question

Each player who escapes the twentieth tomb is taken to a room where they can virtually contribute to the game's development. Players are given the opportunity to design a chamber to be added into the procedural generation algorithm. Any idea, spanning from a room full of mummies to a dungeon loaded with treasure, can be built.
