SACRED - The new name in Action-RPGs. SACRED delivers a huge, elaborate world comprising 16 regions beset with heroic quests, battle-hardened warriors and horrific enemies. Ancaria consists of highly detailed landscapes, complete with villages and towns, and also features a day/night cycle with varying weather systems. Regions vary from forests and mountains to deserts, catacombs and ice-covered landmasses. More than three quarters of the world is open to the players from the very start - no unlocks needed.
SACRED Plus - Incorporates all of the feedback from the player community since the first release of SACRED. This includes an optimized interface, and many completely new features: two new regions, two additional main quests, new item sets and weapons, and many new creature types which make adventuring in Ancaria even more dangerous.
SACRED Underworld - Ancaria is facing a threat far greater than ever before. The now familiar world continues to evolve, with existing SACRED players able to import their old characters into the Underworld.

It has a Diablo or DnD click to move hack and slash play style but is completely open world, and I love that! Very simple and mindless, easy to learn, but with challenging bosses to randomly come across and lots of interesting monsters and quests. Lovely and diverse landscapes and regions which are fun and rewarding to explore and a decent storyline and lore to uncover as you progress. It's pretty cheesy sometimes and mechanics (if any lol) are very generic, occasional glitchs here and there, but I still really recommend it if you want something calm and slow paced. I can play for hours and be perfectly content, definitely one of my favorites for it's simplicity. :)

It has been a while since I last played this game. When I found it on steam for under $5 I had to buy it. Remeniscent of older D&D PC games such as Ruins of Myth Draanor or Icewind Dale this hack and slasher is filled with action and surprise.

For me - it's best rpg ever.
It's old, cool and awesome.
For its time this game was pretty original, it is much better than Diablo.
I'm playing this game even now...

FOR THOSE HANGING AT THE LOADING SCREEN WHERE IT SAYS "TYPEMANAGER" AND STUFF IN THE RED BAR: GO INTO YOUR CONFIG.EXE IN SACRED FOLDER IN STEAM AND CHECK THE "32 BIT COLOR DEPTH" OPTION. SHOULD FIX NP.

IF YOU ARE HAVING LOW FPS PROBLEMS ON MODERN MACHINES, GO INTO YOUR SETTINGS FILE and change TO THESE VALUES:

Settings.cfg
------------------------
GFX_LIMIT128 : 1
GFX32 : 0
FULLSCREEN : 0
FSAA_FILTER : 0
------------------------

YES YOU WILL HAVE TO RUN IN WINDOWED, BUT YOU CAN JUST SET YOUR DESKTOP RESOLUTION TO 1024x768 TO GET THE GAME TO FILL YOUR SCREEN, IT IS HARDCODED INTO GAME AND YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT.

ONTO THE REVIEW....

Regardless of what people say, it reminds me of an *updated* Diablo 2.

One of the things I didn't like about D2 was the linearity of the game, here that is taken out in favor of exploration.

The combat is iffy. Once you get used to it, it's not bad. No worse than D2's, really.

Lotta customization, and the classes feel unique.

Quests, quests, and more quests! One thing that was kind of a drag in D2 was that each act only had a handful of quests.

And the loot? Plenty of it!

If you liked Diablo2, you will like this.

And for $2.49 on sale, you can't go wrong.

9/10 (minus 1 for having to do all that trouble shooting for it to work, but really, that's not the game's fault)

One of the best hacknslash games of all time. Enjoyed it back in the day, and still enjoy it.
Spent countless hours with my friend exploring the massive world.

The expansions added some new characters, but none of them really felt like they fit in.

all in all, sacred gold is a solid experience.

Sacred is actually one of my personal favorite top down RPGs. Sort of taking Diablo's gameplay to a different level. The graphics for it's time are quite good and the general gameplay was very enjoyable.

The exploration in this game certainly pays off frequently as there are many thing that can help you on your quest that can only be found through thourough exploration.

All in all there really isn't a whole lot I can really say other than this game is awesome :3

Recommended for all fans of Diablo, Dungeon Siege or any other top down RPG.

This is a good game. The classes are good, and it has a very good loot system. My little wood elf has a wide assortment of special moves to use, and if anything, seems just a little over powered at this time.

This game appears to have a lot of depth to it..I am only about six hours in, and I am level 9. Not sure how long this game is..looks to be pretty lengthy.

I loved this game 10 years ago, but...

Resolution fixed at 1024x768. Window mode doesn't work properly in Windows 7, not even in XP compatibility mode.

Avoid this game today unless you have an old/small 4:3 monitor to play it.

Muddy graphics and the game doesn't launch. I knew I was in trouble when I had to install DirectX to play it. It gets stuck at "Type Manager" and then locks up the computer until you open up Task Manager to kill it. Thank God I only wasted $2.49 on this piece of junk.

Great game when I played it, but furious that it doesnt work properly on Windows 8 even on Compatibility Mode, and the fact that STEAM doesnt give refunds for games youve just bought that dont work correctly! MAD!

Welcome to the world of Ancaria, where basically everything is hostile, except you go into a town. Hack'n'Slay your way through a gigantic open world, with tons of small dungeons, side quests and a nice story line. Sacred Gold comes with the Underworld DLC including two new heros for Ancaria, the Demon and the Dwarf, and a lot more world to explore. Lots of play time is guaranteed, sadly the german synchronisation isnt avaliable on Steam.

game of my childhood, nothing to say the best hack 'n' slash i ever played, even more than diablo even though i spent more time on diablo than here but only because the sacred's online servers were shutted down but the open world, the easter eggs and the replayability of this game are the factors i think is better than Diablo.

A surprisingly good game. Though the plot and setting are as generic-Fantasy as it gets, the game's mechanics make it surprisingly addictive. An Open World Diabloesque, Sacred manages a good balance. It provides plenty of exploration and side-questing, without detracting from the main plot. The difficulty can be a little spikey in places, but good loot is frequent enough to help smooth some of those edges. Builds are relatively easy to construct, though the game has a few gotchas that could have been better explained. While not the best in the genre, it is surprising this did not get more exposure in its day.

I don't know how to put it - Long time ago tens of game candidates competed who would be the next "Diablo" and Sacred was one of them. Dream never came true, but nevertheless Sacred wasn't a bad game - far from it. Its incredibly huge and open world with hundreds of sidequests, clear and wide character develeopment system and countless amount of armors and weapons to collect make it addictive and replayabe and these features still live strong after all these years !!

Whether singleplayer or with a group of friends, the old classic action rpg "Sacred Gold" is still lots of fun to play and still one of the best games of its genre.

A huge vivid open world with lots of secrets to discover encourages traveling around and exploring, the character development is highly customizable with Combat Arts, self-selected Skills and Attributes. Apart from usual randomly generated loot, there are uniques and set items which encourages collecting, and equipment in general has so many different possible modifiers that you can highly customize your character in so many different ways.
There are five difficulties, you unlock the next higher one by beating the game on the previous. Each difficulty makes enemies deal a lot more damage and become tougher, but also improves the loot you can get from them. The game gets extremely hard on the highest difficulties.
I don't have this game in Steam for long, played it many houndreds of hours before (probably far more than 1000 hours over the years, actually), it's just awesome.

I'd say it's even worth the standard 10€ price but this is debatable, at a sale though I can only fully recommend it.
