Was cool for a while. I put 15 hours into it because over the years I kept reinstalling it and having to redo all the missions. It is fun and not very hard playing alone until you get to a massive difficulty spike in the next to last thief mission where it is strikingly apparant that this game was meant to mainly be a co-op/multiplayer game. In which you won't find anyone to connect to online because it's so old, so either search the forums for someone to play with or have a friend that also has the game. Also, if you do play co-op or mp, voice chat is basically a must. Without voice communication to closely work together, it will be a mess. I mean missions are certainly doable just fine without it but the game is a much, much more fun experience if you can communicate with voice.

6/10 okay for a while

This is Quite a long review but nevermind...

I was and still am a huge fan of monaco but i had onlt completed it on the xbox, and i mean 100% unscathed, bring the bleach all levels completed with all trophies but 1 which was multiplayer and after about 1.5 years i gave up.

Then when i bought monaco on the PC i thought it would be nice to try it but i feel the zombies mode has ruined the aspect of monaco, not in the sneaky-ness of it because now you have to be even more sneaky but from the fact the zombies mode seems quite... off for monaco as it is set in france, meant to be a game about stealing (zombies still is but does not feel the same) murder if you can do it silently using a wrench or 7 and getting those SWEET trophies is still there but doing it against the watchmen, THAT HELICOPTER! (you know the one if youve played the game...) and the dogs feels like its proper thievery but against zombies its just collecting coins, a faded screen and 2 zombies called margo and pierre (im assuming the two computer people) just grunting and walking past zombies.

*RANT ENDED*

But other than that Monaco is a game i will for ever cherish, for its story of which for all my life has never beaten my love for it

SOOO... i highly recommend you purchase monaco but if your into completing it as in multiplayer, single player unscathed and cleaned out from head to toe get the xbox version for i think it is better!

A masterpiece
This game at first is very confusing. I had buyers remorse I thought until I gave it a second chance. A true hidden gem on Steam this game is! If you like simple puzzle games and like stealth games you will absolutely love this game!

8.5/10 Story could be better, I know the story of the game isn't it's selling point but I would like better reasons to rob a bank instead of to satisfy a spoiled redhead XD Some robbers are just clearly a better choice than others. You can get confused on what is a door, or a window, etc.

Summary: Hidden gem on Steam that gives you tons of replay value while being a 2d blocky game.

Very enjoyable game, as long as your goal is to collect all of the coins on a level, especially with other people on voice chat as all hell breaks loose. Just completing the objective and escaping is not the way to play this game as it makes the game trivially easy since none of the objectives are particularily hard to get.

This review prepares one mentally for Monaco's negative points. It is a great stealth game which I highly recommend but these are some things which you should know before purchasing. I can sing the praises for this game in the voice of a singing skald but that defeats the purpose of a review.

-----------------------
Graphics
It is confusing distinguishing what the icons on the map symbolize and the lighting looks like a complete mess. It takes quite awhile (at least 5 hours) just getting fully accustomed to the visuals of the game.

Difficulty
The game has a very gentle learning curve that only gets hard toward the end of the second campaign. This can be a problem for some players as there are a lot of hidden mechanics which isn't taught anywhere and you have to figure these things out on your own.

For other players, the first half game is extremely easy just brute forcing your way through. Don't be too hasty in shrugging off the game as the difficulty ramps up towards the latter half. There are countless challenging workshop maps too.

Workshop
There are over a hundred good custom maps available in the workshop (if you know where to look), this is the reason the game has a tonne of content for hours of fun. While the editor is great and easy to pick up, the lack of players will mean anything you make is left for dead.

Anti-social Hosts (Aka. Why you should not get Monaco)
The 'community' is pretty dead and newer players have a tendency to kick strangers out of a lobby even if there are vacancies. Unfortunately, most hosts are unbothered to have these games in private.

If you do get the game, it is best to at least have a friend or two to join you. Chaos in a party is what makes Monaco great. There will be more players during the summer sale so grab the game then.

Colour-blindness
Colour-blind mode doesn't help much and it's a game where colours are used to differentiate things easily. :P

-----------------------
TL:DR
Grab the game if it's on sale, it's a steal stealing stealers stealing money like a monkey, with a monkey.

Great graphics, great music, a great experience. Some levels can be frustrating if you're a perfectionist like myself, but what's a game without a little frustration, amirite? Would replay new levels 10/10.

Solid multiplayer game.

This game has both local co-op and online, though not both at the same time. It's a fun game that can both be played as a strategic heist game, or a fun run through a guard infested building. It works well as a multiplayer, or single player, and can be enjoyed equally in either mode.

Personally I find it best in couch co-op though it can be frustrating. Some of the mechanics are a little annoying. (sight doesn't work as you expect at times), and a few rooms feel like you need certain abilities to "cleanly" get away.

But where else are you going to get a mole to dig a tunnel through a wall, to allow a hacker to hack a light switch to disable a security laser, then let the lock smith unlock a safe, while the lookout is watching for guards.

Manaco is a good stratagey/stealth game. I suggest you and a couple of buddies play this game together but its not neccasary. The art style is unique and the music fits the atmosphere. Not very plot heavy but I would still recomend.

Since Steam opened up Chinese region, a large number of Chinese players entered Steam. They no longer play pirated games, but pay for genuine games. Based on the huge population and excellent quality of the game, adding Chinese language support is clearly a win-win option, with a low cost in exchange for unparalleled reputation and substantial revenue, game makers really should consider it carefully. And as far as we know, compared to the quality of the game, the Chinese players prefer pay for the games which have Chinese language - even though it is not particularly good.
