Bastion is one of the best games I have played and you have no excuse not to play it.
It combines a number of addictive elements that slowly get introduced to you. It has a witty narrator (think Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell) that hilariously narrates everything you do. You get a few weapons along the way and a shield at the start then your favourite RPG tools appear.
Let’s talk about the graphics. Amazing! If you have a higher resolution screen like me (2560 by 1440), checkout the Steam discussions to get a fix for it (look in properties, set launch options… and add -x 2560 -y 1440). It’s like you have been thrown into an artist’s water coloured mind and has painted his brush all over your brain. The music and sounds are fantastic. This is truly what gaming is about.
Bastion is a hack and slash RPG, you get and upgrade weapons along the way, and you have secondary weapons, special attacks, weapon upgrade tree, elixirs to improve stats, shrine to increase difficulty and mini games to master your skills. Even after that, you have a nice loot system that you’re always trying to find and there’s an excitement level because when you get something, it’s good and not just worthless junk!
The only area I can really fault with this game is its story, it’s not as interesting like most games (I want to know what caused the Calamity, but that’s about it), it doesn’t even matter though. You just want to play and have a good time.
Best thing about Bastion is it always had something new to show the player, it’s not tedious, it doesn’t get stale. It’s refreshing to see a game excite so much while having so much strategy to a hack and slash genre which people tend to have a habit of mindlessly playing.
Thank you Bastion, for being awesome! One of my favourite games.
