What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“STARSHIP: EMBER REACH is a single-player spaceship-building and space-combat game. We are using Early Access to improve the playable combat, ship construction, progression and user experience with player feedback. Our focus is to make the current single-player game more reliable, clearer to learn and better balanced.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have not set a fixed duration or a 1.0 release date. The length of Early Access will depend on progress with stability, performance, progression and the single-player campaign, as well as player feedback. We plan to share progress and any revised release expectations through Steam updates.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to refine the single-player campaign, improve onboarding, mission balance, ship construction and weapon feedback, and address performance and stability issues. Additional content will be considered based on development resources and player feedback. Multiplayer, a persistent online world and additional large maps are not included in the current version or promised as part of this purchase.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Windows version is a single-player game with ship construction, tactical missions, free flight, recovery and equipment progression.

Four ship classes: Eight 200-meter ships span Assault, Cruiser, Battleship and Carrier roles. Assault ships have a temporary movement boost; cruisers have a temporary weapon and turning boost; battleships can trade mobility for damage reduction. Carriers deploy six drones with attack, interception and repair modes. Player drones and drone skill cards are carrier-exclusive, and the formation must be deployed before additional drone cards can be used. Deployed drones pursue detected and locked targets within 13 km and fire within their own weapon range.

Ship building and combat: Fit weapons and ship systems, inspect the frame and armor, coordinate independent weapon groups and use the tactical radar. Combat includes guided missiles, a charged ultimate weapon, visible armor damage and detached fragments. Weapon range, cooldowns, charge time and line of sight matter. The flight HUD includes repairs and forward/reverse speed settings.

Home port and equipment progression: Dock at a space station using its extending mechanical passage. Recover materials and equipment during sorties, return to port, and use fabrication, upgrades, synthesis and dismantling to develop your build.

Commander progression: Earn mission experience toward level 50. Six talent branches contain 96 nodes, with three separately configured loadouts and talent reconfiguration at port. The in-game codex covers weapons, enhancement cards, skills, ships, enemy ships, drones and facilities.

Keyboard and mouse controls, local save/load, and English and Simplified Chinese interfaces are available. Mission balance, onboarding, usability, performance and stability still need refinement, and players may encounter bugs. Please make your purchase decision based on the current content rather than future plans.

Early Access Save Notice: As content and save systems evolve, some updates may require a save reset, resulting in the loss of some or all progress. We will make every effort to preserve your saves and progress, reset them only when necessary, and provide advance notice whenever possible.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to keep the game's base price unchanged throughout Early Access and when version 1.0 is released. We do not plan a price increase for the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can report bugs and discuss combat, ship building, progression and usability through the Steam Community discussions or the support contact listed on the store page. We plan to use reproducible bug reports and gameplay feedback to help prioritize fixes and improvements, and explain notable changes in Steam update notes.”

About This Game

A note from the developer

This is the initial Early Access version of STARSHIP: EMBER REACH. I am working hard to improve ship structures, battle damage, explosion effects and gameplay, while continuing to refine language support and other parts of the game. I will do my best to bring you these improvements as quickly and carefully as I can. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as development continues.

Build your starship. Choose your combat role. Bring what you recover back to port.

STARSHIP: EMBER REACH is a single-player space game about modular ship building, tactical combat and equipment progression. Refit your ship at a space station, take it into missions or free flight, and turn recovered materials into your next upgrade. Choose from four ship classes with distinct abilities, command carrier drone operations and develop your Commander through a branching talent system.

Four ship classes, four ways to fight

  • Assault ships — Vector Burst: gain a temporary boost to speed and turning to reposition in combat.
  • Cruisers — Tactical Overdrive: temporarily increase weapon damage and turning performance.
  • Battleships — Fortress Stance: reduce incoming damage in exchange for lower speed and maneuverability.
  • Carriers — Drone Deployment: deploy a persistent drone formation and switch between attack, interception and repair modes.
The fleet includes eight 200-meter ships across these four classes, including Kestrel, Star Manta, Bastion Lion and Beacon. Player drones and drone skill cards are exclusive to carriers. The current carriers deploy six drones; deploy the formation before using additional drone cards. Deployed drones can pursue detected and locked targets within 13 km, and fire when they reach their own weapon range.

Build, equip and recover

  • Inspect your ship from multiple angles, place weapons and ship systems, and work with its frame, inner armor and outer hull.
  • See armor damage and detached fragments during combat, then return to refine your configuration.
  • Coordinate independent weapon groups, select contacts with the tactical radar, and manage range, charge time, cooldowns and line of sight.
  • Use guided missiles and a charged ultimate weapon alongside your other equipment. Manage repairs and forward or reverse speed settings through the flight HUD.
  • Recover materials, collect equipment and cards, and use fabrication, upgrading, synthesis and dismantling to prepare for another sortie.

Return to your space station

Approach an available docking port and initiate the docking sequence. The station's mechanical passage extends to meet your ship and retracts before departure. Your ship and the station remain visible in the home-port view as you prepare for your next mission.

Develop your Commander

Earn Commander experience through active mission time. Progress toward level 50 and shape your play style through six talent branches: firepower, armor, shields, mobility, drones and tactics. The talent tree contains 96 nodes, with three separately configured loadouts. Preview a path, apply it when ready, and reconfigure your talents at port.

Learn your equipment

An in-game codex covers seven categories: weapons, enhancement cards, skills, ships, enemy ships, drones and facilities. Use it alongside the workshop to compare equipment and plan your next build.

Early Access and save progress

The current game supports keyboard and mouse controls, local saves, and English and Simplified Chinese interfaces. Development continues, with further work planned on stability, performance, onboarding, mission balance and usability. Please read the Early Access questions above for the current scope and development plans.
