The Outer Worlds - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

The first story expansion for The Outer Worlds won’t be taking you to a relaxing corner of space for some well-earned relaxation. No, there’s no rest for the wicked in corporate space so you’ll be headed to an old research asteroid to find out what the heck has gone wrong. As you can bet based on the title, Peril On Gorgon will dunk you into the thick of it. You can catch one of the early quests in a new developer commentary video showing off a bit of the expansion coming in September.

Two weeks ago, Mediatonic challenged popular gaming brands and personalities to a charity bidding war. The prize would be a Fall Guys skin dedicated to the one that pledged the highest donation to gaming accessibility organisation Special Effect. The contest has run its course and Mediatonic have declared a $1 million (£748k) group pledge the winner.

Earlier this year, Alice0 mused that it would be weird if Sony didn’t bring more exclusives to PC and by golly it looks like they were listening to her specifically because now they’re having a proper think about it. Sony now say they will “explore” bringing more games by Sony-owned studios to PC players.

We’ve heard just about heck all about Gods & Monsters since Ubisoft announced it with a cinematic trailer in 2019 and then delayed it earlier this year. More information about the open world Greek god-saving action game may be forthcoming, well, soonish. Ubisoft might be changing the game’s name to Immortals Fenyx Rising when they reintroduce it.

As tired a phrase as “they must be hacking” is when getting bested in competitive shooters, sometimes other players really are cheating. There will be fewer of those now, at least for the time being, thanks to a lawsuit brought by Activision against a website selling cheat tools for Call Of Duty: Warzone and other Call Of Duty games.

Crusader Kings III - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

The way I’d summarise Crusader Kings 3 depends heavily on where you’re coming at the game from. If you never played Crusader Kings 2, but were always interested, then I heartily recommend this extremely long, in-depth strategy/RPG hybrid about managing the successive lives of a dynasty of medieval problem people. It’s very complex, but it does a better job than its predecessor of explaining itself, and offers more rewards along the learning curve. Similarly, if you tried CK2 but bounced off, now would be your cue to come back for another bite of the turkey leg.

If you have played CK2, however, then I honestly don’t know what to say to you. You might find that CK3 preserves the best of CK2, while losing some of the irritations. Or you might find that it has preserved the general structure, while losing the magic. Which end of that spectrum you skew towards will depend on what details of CK2 your particular devils resided in.

The more I see of Minecraft, the more I’m convinced that we all live in a simulation. Possibly one that’s also inside Minecraft, and running some fancy shaders. I don’t make that claim lightly. Like all conspiracy theorists, I have proof that you cannot dispute. Prepare yourself for a reality check. Below are some dazzlingly intricate pieces of computing, but rendered entirely inside> Mojang’s blocky world-builder. And if Minecraft is capable of running in-game PCs, then we’re all just Creepers waiting to explode.

Sundays are for going for a run, drinking coffee out of doors, and looking forward to a few days respite.

For Polygon, Jay Castello spoke to trans streamers about why they need better discoverability tools within Twitch. This is a good example of how basic decisions of a platform holder can have sweeping consequences for communities.
