No sooner has Sea Of Thieves found its sea legs that Rare and Microsoft announce a perplexing decision. One of the game’s big selling points was its easy PC to Xbox One cross-platform play, but will soon offer the option for gamepad-using Xbox players not to cross the platform strait into Windows waters. It’s understandable – the game has a strong PvP element, and mouse and keyboard may give players the advantage, especially in the upcoming Arena mode – but it’s still a little sad to see the idea floated at all. Below, Rare’s Joe Neate details the decision in a developer blog video.

FOR HONOR™ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Last year saw For Honor reborn to stand with Ubisoft stablemate Rainbow Six Siege, and today marks the third-person team brawler’s first major update of 2019. A war-torn harbor map is available for all to play around, but the most interesting half of this update is the Black Prior hero, available in both boy and girl forms. A dark knight that straddles the gap between Visigoth and Modern Goth, liking black leather, looking moody, they fight in ways that their more chivalrous friends probably tut disapprovingly of. Take a peek at both the map and character below.

Mosh Pit Simulator - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Virtual reality, some might tell you, is the future of emotional interactive storytelling. Whether that’s true or not, we should remember that VR has also great potential for fannying about like a big idiot. Lo, the clouds do part and Mosh Pit Simulator doth descend into early access. It’s a goofed-out physics sandbox from Sos Sosowski, maker of the manic McPixel, and a game where bugs became features became inspiration for sillier features. I’m not gogged up so I shan’t be simulating any mosh pits myself but punching boneless people into space, attaching objects to objects they should not be attached to, growing huge, and smashing a city sure sounds like my bag.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 Complete Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

For a while, I was a bit worried that the PC version of Valkyria Chronicles 4 would forever be missing some of its console-version DLC, but Sega have finally done us good. The final two add-on chapters launched this week, and are free for anyone who pre-ordered the game or bought any other bit of DLC. A United Front With Squad 7 and Advance Ops add new side-chapters to the game, and allow you to recruit six of the heroes from the first game to your squad along with Squad 7’s tank, the Edelweiss. Good to see the crew back together, even if it took a while.

Videogames! That s the topic of this week s podcast. Okay, you got us, we couldn t be arsed to prepare a theme. But we have been playing with a lot of these glittering videowotsits. Graham comes on to discuss the teeny-weeny strategy game Wargroove, which is out tomorrow. And John has been enjoying the company of penguins in Subnautica: Below Zero. Meanwhile, Brendan has been traipsing carefully around in Resident Evil 2, trying to escape a big man in a hat.

Praey for the Gods - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Not every enemy in Praey For The Gods is an enormous hairy Shadow Of The Colossus-styled monster, but there’s enough of the big brutes to make me excited for today’s early access debut. The crowdfunded work of three-man crew No Matter Studios, it’s undoubtedly inspired by Team Ico’s spectacular boss-hunt, but also integrates a bit of Zelda-like exploration armed with glider and hookshot. There’s a little bit of survival sandbox in here too, with the player hunting for food and building fires for warmth between giant hunts. See the launch trailer below.

Say what you will about red and black being a PC gaming cliche. I kind of love it. From gaming headsets like the HyperX Cloud Alpha to laptops like the Alienware m15, I’m of the firm opinion that more bits of gaming hardware should be swaddled in the best colour known to man (red, not black, you understand). LucidSound’s LS25 headset is another such headset that subscribes to this excellent outlook on life, with its striking red stitching, frame and LucidSound logos all looking very lovely indeed against its black padding and the spun metal finish on each of its 50mm ear cups. But has this so-called ‘esports headset’ got what it takes to compete with the very best gaming headsets? Let’s find out.

For almost half a year, parts of Destiny 2‘s world have been trapped in a time loop, our actions and adventures having no real impact as the same events unfold every time the three-week cycle starts over. While rotating quests is standard for many MMOs, and indeed Destiny 2, the curse cycle of the Dreaming City is actually a story quietly unfolding. You may have missed this if you don’t play regularly and listen to all the quest dialogue, but everyone there knows we’re trapped in a Groundhog Threeweeks loop and it’s getting grim. Change may be coming.

HITMAN™ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Katharine Castle)

HDR on PC continues to be a bit of a mess these days, but provided you haven’t been put off by the astronomical prices of the [cms-block]s for HDR or, indeed, the ongoing debacle surrounding Windows 10 support for it, then the next step on your path to high dynamic range glory is to get an HDR compatible graphics card.

Below, you’ll find a complete list of all the Nvidia and AMD graphics cards that have built-in support for HDR, as well as everything you need to know about getting one that also supports Nvidia and AMD’s own HDR standards, G-Sync HDR and FreeSync 2. I’ve also put together a list of all the PC games that support HDR as well. There aren’t many of them, all told, but I’ll be updating this list with more titles as and when they come out so it’s always up to date.
