Europa Universalis V - PDXRyagi

Welcome to the first development diary for Europa Universalis V! EU5 is the fifth edition of a franchise that spans over three decades of development, but this time, we’re introducing what can be considered a revolutionary approach to world simulation and population management, moving beyond the abstract numbers of its predecessors to try and create a truly "living world.”

Spanning the centuries from 1337 to 1837, we hope to immerse players in a historically rich and dynamic world where every decision has tangible consequences for both its inhabitants and the environment itself.

The heart of EU5's living world is its "pops" system, which aims to simulate every single living individual that existed in 1337 at a granular level. Unlike previous version of the game, where population was a more generalized statistic, EU5 portrays individual working people, each with their own needs, wants, and roles within a nation.

Population Map mode of Hungary at the start of the game (1337)

These pops are the lifeblood of a nation; without them, buildings shut down, manpower is nonexistent, and colonies fail to populate. Managing your population effectively is a top priority, as they require feeding, work fields and industries, armies and navies to defend and expand, and even ready wealth for taxation and investment.

Burghers in Pest 1337

Each pop has an assigned culture and religious beliefs, leading to diverse populations in almost every location—with hundreds of religions and thousands of cultures in play, it's rare to have a completely homogeneous demographic split. Culture and religion are not merely cosmetic; they directly impact different game systems, such as cultural prestige, available advances, different mechanical behaviors, and the literacy of the population.

For example, a single social class, such as peasants, inhabiting a single location in Iberia, can be made up of various cultural and religious groups like Catalan Catholics, Andalusi Sunnis, and Sephardic Jews. Players must decide how to balance the wants and needs of their diverse population while navigating the friction that political, cultural, and religious differences can cause.

Demographics of Diverse Spanish province - 1337

Speaking of social class, these are categories in which the population is split, making it possible to promote and demote pops based on available jobs and demand. Different buildings employ different types of pops: Where burghers and laborers primarily produce goods for the economy, nobles and soldiers provide the defence, and clergy provide literacy. But their attributes matter as well—for example, a more literate clergy will also be better at converting other pops.

Promotions in Paris Mid game

The pops system makes EU5 feel more like a world simulator, where every choice shapes a nation's social fabric.

The dynamic nature of pops extends to their needs and their responses to player policies. Pops require essentials like food, clothing, and luxuries, which are integrated into EU5's reworked trade system, about which we’ll talk in detail in a future Dev Diary.

Pop needs in France mid game

With surplus food and general prosperity, populations will grow, and pops can even be promoted to higher classes, if the necessary jobs are available. Conversely, food shortages due to war or poor harvests can lead to starvation, shrinking both your workforce and military potential.

Pop growth in Spanish rural province mid game

Natural disasters and diseases, such as volcanoes or smallpox, can devastate populations, especially in densely packed cities, forcing players to balance population management with economic growth.

The fertile soil of naples does not come from nowwhere...

The Dangers Map Mode will help you navigate especially active seismic regions.

Neglecting pops risks inciting rebellion, while satisfying their needs boosts productivity. Happy burghers lead to thriving trade, and content peasants result in higher food production.

Beyond individual pops, EU5's living world thrives on dynamic interactions and historical events. Important historical occurrences like the Black Death or the Reformation trigger "Situations" with unique mechanics. For example, the bubonic plague might specifically decimate urban pops, forcing players to quarantine cities or lose trade income.

A world before the plague

A world devastated by the Plague

Keep in mind the Plague is a dynamic, following trade and crossing borders. Different playthroughs will yield different results and levels of pop loss! We also have game rules allowing you to randomize it's spawn date, spawn location, or turn it off entirely if you so wish.

Events will have impact beyond just flavor: Losing pops directly influences your gameplay by weakening your economy and military.

Pops are integral to EU5’s estate system. The nobles, clergy, burghers, and commoners all have their own ambitions and privileges. Granting these privileges will often influence multiple estates at the same time. For example, granting serfdom rights to nobles might oppress peasant pops, reducing their happiness while boosting nobles' loyalty. Conversely, freeing commoners could spark economic growth, but also anger elites.

Mobility of the commoners is sure to make peasants happy. But think of the poor poor nobles...

EU5 tracks pop literacy and wealth through the game, influencing technological progress and trade efficiency. Advanced nations like Venice will benefit more from having literate pops to stimulate innovation, whereas nations with lower literacy will have a harder path towards reform.

Cultural and religious diversity add another layer of depth. Promoting a state religion might help to unify pops, but will certainly alienate minorities, exposing you to unrest and potential revolts. While assimilation is possible, it is a slow and costly process—you’ll need to spend precious resources like diplomatic finesse or military strength to ensure its success.

This intricate system ensures that every nation feels unique. After all, ruling the cosmopolitan Ottomans should be vastly different from managing the more culturally homogeneous Ashikaga Shogunate.

Cultural Breakdown of Japan mid game

Cultural Breakdown of Ottomans mid game

The world map in EU5 is Paradox's most ambitious to date, meticulously crafted from historical sources and reaching from 1337 to 1837 and featuring over a thousand playable nations. For example, the Holy Roman Empire is depicted as a myriad of tiny states, each with distinct pops and borders, with some locations and nations as small as single cities.

To make this granularity possible, the map is split into approximately 30,000 detailed locations, which serve as the base building blocks of this world. These locations can be anything from rural hubs focused on food production, to sprawling urban centers.

Beyond the settlements themselves, geographic features play a crucial role in gameplay. Each location is defined by its climate, vegetation, and topology. These three elements directly impact strategic decisions; for example, cavalry will dominate the flat plains, while infantry excel in hills.

The map's visual splendor enhances immersion, with seasonal changes like snow-covered alps in winter and lush Indian plains in monsoon. These changes are not just visual; they provide tangible game effects, such as blocking army movement or disrupting production.

Rivers and straits act as strategic chokepoints, vital for trade and defense, as exemplified by the Bosphorus when the Ottomans sought to secure trade routes.

Navigation of the world map is facilitated by an updated and advanced mapmode system. With over 70 different map layers, players can adapt their view of the world to zero in on whatever specific information they need. This includes familiar political map modes outlining national borders, as well as map modes for geographical and topographical changes, raw goods (RGOs), markets, and more.

Climate Map mode

Raw Materials Map mode (These are your "RGOs")

Topography Map Mode

All these map modes are organized into a new UI dock, complete with a search function and the ability to set advanced hotkeys.

One of the most important new additions is the Population Map, which provides a visual representation of granular pop data.

Start date, 1337A screenshot of the same population made mode from a game in 1770

Whether players choose to let their population starve while burning enemy farms, allow varied cultures to flourish, become an industrial powerhouse, or maintain traditional feudal values, their choices will have profound impacts on their pops' food, health, security, and even their willingness to fight for or against them.

A War Ravished location

After the location has recovered

In conclusion, we believe that the ambitious simulation of every single living individual from 1337, coupled with the vast and detailed map, is what truly sets EU5 apart, making it a deep and immersive grand strategy experience. The detailed pops system, with its cultural and religious depth, transforms every province into a microcosm of society, responding to every decision by the player. From the fractured Holy Roman Empire to the sprawling Yuán Dynasty, EU5's world feels alive and offers endless adventure, where players must constantly adapt and make choices to determine the fate of their nation and its people…at least, until the next game starts.

Train Sim World® 5 - DTG_Alex

Hello everyone - Welcome back to the second part of the TSW August 2025 roadmap! This time we'll be shifting our focus away from the core content coming with TSW6's launch, and looking ahead at the releases you can expect to come in the months beyond, from our wonderful range of partner programme developers, and a couple releases with the Dovetail Games team.

In case you missed it, here's a link to our TSW6 Roadmap yesterday, and some other helpful links that you may find useful:

This article will feature all-new information and details directly from each developer on their new add-ons, which hopefully gets you all excited for the future!

This article will feature a selection of images to suit the Steam formatting, but for all the screenshots and text, please read our full TSW6 Future Roadmap - August 2025 article on our DTL website.

Let's start with the 8 announcements from the Take A Ticket show this year:

Take A Ticket 2025

Birmingham – Crewe from All Aboard Studios

Officially announced as the first route add-on coming to Train Sim World 6, and the debut add-on for the All Aboard Studios into TSW, get ready to travel across a new section of the WCML!

AABS: "All Aboard for something special. Our first official release for Train Sim World takes you straight into the modern main line action of the West Midlands and North West with WCML Birmingham to Crewe – a fast paced, electrified corridor packed with energy, contrast and realism."

"This is the West Coast Main Line as it operates in the 21st Century. Your journey begins at Birmingham New Street, Britain’s busiest station outside London. From the deep platforms beneath the city, just two electrified lines carry you north, climbing out into the open air and into the heart of the Black Country."

"What follows is a powerful sequence of locations that define the region’s railway identity. As you pass through Smethwick, Dudley and Oldbury, the industrial heartbeat of the Black Country pulses around you. Then comes Wolverhampton. You rise above the city, sweeping across rooftops and see the iconic football ground in the distance before arriving at the high level platforms of this key interchange. Here, lines from Shrewsbury, Stafford, Bescot and Birmingham all converge, making Wolverhampton one of the most operationally significant points on the route."

"North of Wolverhampton, the scene transforms. The city noise fades, and you enter the broad rural landscape of Staffordshire. The run into Stafford brings open track, steady gradients and clear skies. It is here you join the core of the West Coast Main Line. Every detail has been built to reflect the current-day infrastructure."

"Your final approach into Crewe is a railway experience in itself. Long known as a major hub in the national network, Crewe features wide sweeping platforms, complex track layouts and operational detail at every turn. It is a fitting end point for a route defined by pace, presence and purpose."

The Class 350 Desiro is your main traction for the journey. This familiar and trusted unit appears here in all three subclasses – 350/1, 350/2 and 350/3 – each delivered with its own distinct livery, just as they would have been seen in 2019. From interior layouts to visual features and branding, every variation has been recreated for full immersion."

"Adding an extra layer of personality to the route is 350235, wearing its unique British Transport Police livery. You will see this eye catching unit throughout your drives, appearing across the timetable as it follows its real world diagram. There are more than 350 playable services waiting in timetable mode. With a full weekday of operations represented, you will take on everything from first light commuter runs to mid afternoon stoppers and evening express services. Whether running non stop from Wolverhampton to Crewe or stopping at every station from Birmingham northwards, every journey offers something different."

"The route is filled with detail. From football stadiums at Wolverhampton and Crewe, to hand placed industrial and residential scenery in Soho, Oldbury and Stafford, this is a railway environment that feels lived in. Almost 100 bespoke bridges have been created, custom overhead line equipment installed throughout, and every station built using real references from the period. WCML Birmingham to Crewe is more than just a railway line. It is a living network, shaped by the people, places and trains that use it every day."

We can't wait to get this add-on in all of your hands, and it won't be too long until we're hopping on our first preview event with the AABS development team. Stay tuned for more information, and keep reading for a second brand-new announcement from the AABS further on in this article!

Liberec – Stará Paka from Vector Simulations

We love introducing all new teams to our TSW partner programme, and today we're lucky to have two developers to share with you all! Let's start with Vector Simulations, who will be taking TSW to Czechia for the first time!

Vector Simulations: "Our first Czech Add-on for Train Sim World will accurately represent the route 030 from Liberec to Stará Paka, measuring 80 km with single track and based around the year 2018. The route is technically and visually very diverse, traverses multiple deep valleys with high viaducts and goes through 8 tunnels - In some parts, you can even drive 100 km/h! Thanks to this, it offers not only interesting driving profiles and gradients, but also a visually attractive environment. You can also find historical Hrubý Rohozec castle near Turnov."

"You will also drive class 750 - commonly nicknamed “Googles” due to its characteristic look - with some freight service. Climb steep hills with heavy trains, sometimes with single locomotive, other times with two or even with a banking locomotive. Explore a detailed model of the engine room and feel the characteristic scent of diesel and 1970s. The Class 750 will also feature four different liveries, VO67 radiostation, LS IV safety system, support of multiple-engine driving and a banking locomotive."

The new country list keeps growing, thank you to the Vector Simulations team for their details on the first Czech route arriving soon to TSW, how about we catch a flight to another new location?

Lisbon – Setúbal from VirtuaVia360

As the second of our new partner developers, let's meet VirtuaVia360, who will also be bringing TSW to a whole new country, with the first Portugese route coming to TSW6! Let's meet the team behind the route:

Virtuavia360: "We’re Virtuavia360, a Portuguese company that has game developers and train enthusiasts, bringing the first ever Portuguese routes to Train Sim World. We are really excited to join the 3rd Party Program at Dovetail, to bring our vision and work to Train Sim World"

"Embark on a stunning 54km journey from Lisbon's bustling hubs to the outer commuter suburbs. Take in amazing views of the Tejo river, the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge, and the picturesque landscape of the Setúbal peninsula. This add-on is recreated with outstanding detail of the commuter rail experience across 14 stations, featuring the 3500 Series EMU and a true-to-life timetable."

"The route will also feature complete Portuguese signaling and safety systems, a faithfully recreated timetable according to real world information, and it will be the first add-on to introduce the 1668mm gauge to TSW!"

NEC New York to Stamford from Dovetail Games

Now, coming from our teams at Dovetail, we're excited to announce we're heading back to the NEC with more local New York freight!

Get ready for a choice between the Metro North and Northeat Corrdior routes, as you set off from Grand Central or New York Penn on the way to Stamford in the brand new Metro North M8 locomotive!

Stuttgart – Heilbronn from Dovetail Games

We're winding back the clock to the 2000s era, with another German route coming from our teams at Dovetail Games!

Get your hands on over 50km of Southwest Germany, featuring a mix of big freight yards and fields, and an extremely busy timetable to manage!

And whilst we're early in development, we have a couple WIP models to share today for both the new Wittenberger Steuerwagen and BR 140 locomotive included in the add-on! Please note, the colours on these WIP models are purely added for our artists to better understand proportions during development.

And of course, enjoy a Stuttgart-Heilbronn route map!

Tadami Line from Union Workshop

We premiered the first glance of the highly anticipated Tadami Line gameplay on the Dovetail Direct this year, which is available to view on our TSW6 channel.

Union Workshop: "The Tadami Line runs along the Tadami River, and its charm lies in the magnificent scenery of the changing seasons. The train passes through many bridges and tunnels heads to Oku-Aizu. The scenery outside the window is refreshing. Many domestic and foreign photographers come here to capture this breathtaking scenery. It was even selected as the top of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Autumn Leaves Railways" by a national media."

"The areas along the line not only have beautiful natural scenery but also nurture unique local culture. One of the pleasures of the journey is to immerse yourself in the nostalgic scenery and experience the daily life intertwined with legends and stories. The Tadami Line inherits the history of the mountain village, the food culture, and the exquisite craftsmanship, and continues to protect people's reunion and separation. Don't forget to get a craft called Akabeko as a souvenir, which will feature as collectibles in-game!"

"In TSW Tadami Line, we are offering the classic Kiha40 DMU. The Kiha40 DMU was once one of the most common diesel trains in Japan. The Tadami Line started operating Kiha40 in 1979 and all trains were retired in July 2020. We offer three classic liveries, including Tohoku local colors, National Railways orange, and Niigata colors."

Crewe – Preston from Just Trains

Finally, to end our Take A Ticket announcements - let's hear about the newest route coming from the Just Trains team!

Just Trains: "This busy section located in North-West England includes the historic railway town of Crewe, as well as a multitude of branches which will allow you to explore a number of lesser-known areas, such as the Deepdale branch north of Preston. With varying speed limits and track arrangements you'll constantly be adjusting to the line ahead whether you're driving a 100mph express or a 45mph freight. This immersive route will take you back to an era when the West Coast Main Line was truly alive with a huge variety of traffic."

"Take charge of the powerful electric Class 86/4 Locomotive on high-speed Passenger and Freight runs between Preston and Crewe. Drive the upgraded Class 20/0 with numerous external improvements including a Headcode box variant. A star feature is its all-new slow speed control for precision merry go round coal operations. Enjoy the much-improved Class 47/3, a brand-new subclass, which along with external changes and cab modifications also features the slow-speed control operation which can used when moving the brand-new HAA coal hoppers and upgraded HEA’s which includes a new livery and enhanced weathering. The HEA’s were used on household coal duties. For passenger operations the Mk2d corridor coaches are supplied in TSO, BFK and FK variants along with a Mk1 NEA and RBR Restaurant Buffet car."

"Set in 1986 the route has our most intensive and varied Timetable to-date, featuring a wealth of passenger services, postal trains, end to end freight trains, shunting operations and light engine moves, along with excursions, all merging to provide a wealth of variety. Tackle the challenge of running Merry-Go-Round Coal trains from both Bickershaw and Parkside collieries to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. Of course, you will be able to route-hop to join up with the other Just Trains routes making Crewe-Preston a valuable addition to your West Coast routes library."

AABS: "All aboard for a modern main line experience. Developed by All Aboard Studios, the brand new BR Class 805 is arriving in Train Sim World, bringing with it cutting edge design, authentic operation and the excitement of next generation intercity travel."

"Introduced in 2024 by Avanti West Coast, the Class 805 is a five car bi mode unit that can switch between electric and diesel power. It was designed to replace the ageing Super Voyagers and now runs services from London Euston to destinations across the Midlands, North Wales and beyond. With quieter traction, lower emissions and a fresh, modern interior, the 805 is built for the future of rail."

"In Train Sim World, the train has been recreated with precision and care, based on real world references and operational knowledge. From the clean lines of the Avanti livery to the modern cab packed with interactive features, every detail has been considered. All sounds have been refreshed using direct recordings from the Hitachi AT300 fleet, provided by the excellent SamTSM, delivering a rich and immersive audio experience that brings the train to life."

The BR Class 805 is coming soon to Train Sim World. Are you ready to take the controls? Stay tuned for more information in the coming months, and we look forward to sharing new screenshots and details from the AABS team!

DB BR 420 from TSG

TSG have a new update from the DB BR 420 loco add-on since their original announcement, discussing new details and features coming with the release. Let's hear it from their team:

"The other two are for the newly announced DTG route Stuttgart-Heilbronn. Since that route plays around the year 2000 we decided to have a further traffic red one of that older train to better fit the route. Both liveries were running there at that time. Technically, not much has been changed with the new variants. Of course, the "retro" versions will not have LZB or EBuLa and are equipped with the older style radio."

TfW Class 142 Pacer from Just Trains

Let's hear again from the Just Trains team, this time on their already announced TfW Class 142 loco add-on, coming soon to Train Sim World 6!

Just Trains: "The Class 142 Pacer was the de-facto commuter unit from 1985 to 2020 across many routes in the UK. The 142 series was British Rails attempt to produce a low-cost unit for the railways and was literally based on a road bus chassis which meant that it had no separate bogies, having the axles bolted directly to the chassis rails."

"The Just Trains TfW Class 142 Pacer not only features these livery transformations but includes numerous changes both internally and externally to bring the unit up to being period correct. Externally the upgrades include the 2-door bi-fold entry/exit door, LED headlights, sanding unit along with numerous other small details."

"Internally there is a new seat design and layout featuring a new authentic maquette. In the upgraded cab there is a GSMR radio, operational DRA and TPWS along with other functional enhancements overall. Hear the custom created announcements spoken by a native Welshman as you arrive at the stations. Designed for use in the Dovetail Cardiff Network route, the Just Trains TfW Class 142 features an additional timetable which is set in 2019 and takes advantage of other DLC that you own including the Rivet Games WMR & XC Class 170 Pack."

Santa Fe Gameplay Pack from High Iron Simulations

Let's check back in with the High Iron Simulation team, who are close to releasing their Santa Fe Gameplay Pack for the Cajon Pass route.

High Iron Simulations: "The pack will bring Santa Fe railroading of the early 1990s to California’s famed Cajon Pass route and feature two notable locomotives, the workhorse AT&SF Electro-Motive SD40-2 in blue-and-yellow freight colors, and the powerful Santa Fe General Electric C40-8W in the railroad’s legendary “warbonnet” red-and-silver livery."

"Freight equipment will be highlighted by three all-new types of freight cars: A Santa Fe two-bay cement covered hopper, Santa Fe three-bay ribbed-side covered hopper, and an example of the iconic 86-foot auto parts boxcar."

"The pack promises a robust – and authentic – operating experience. More than 250 timetable services and five scenarios will feature mainline intermodal and freight trains, switching, and locals. The services are closely based on actual Santa Fe freight schedules of the era. Additionally, Union Pacific freight action on Cajon Pass will be represented in an extra layer using UP equipment from the Sherman Hill route Add-on."

HST Farewell Tour & GWR Remaster from Grump Dog Games

Finally, to end our Partner Programme updates section, let's check in with Liam fromm Grump Dog Games, famous across the community for their work on the West Somerset Remaster, and get the latest as they take on a new add-on, and continue work on their upcoming remaster.

What is the HST Farewell Tour pack?

Liam: "The HST Farewell pack is made as a tribute to the HST’s final years in service with GWR as well as a celebration of 200 years of modern railways. The pack includes some of the most iconic liveries worn by the GWR Class 43’s along with expanding the gameplay with new features, such as manual coupling, toilet flushing on the Mk3 coaches and Mk1 HST barrier coaches for stock moves."

What features does the HST Farewell pack include?

Players will also be able to hand place end of train lamps on the Class 43s, Mk3 coaches and the barrier coaches."

GWE Remaster developments since the last update

Liam: "Both the HST Farewell pack and GWE Remaster are coming along great and should hopefully be in the hands of players later this year. Work has also started on the next addon by Grump Dog Games but that’s all I can share at this time."

Just take a look at this fantastic before and after shot for the GWR Remaster!

Common Community Questions

As we wrap up the second of our TSW6 Roadmaps, I wanted to address some of the top areas and questions we're getting from across the community, so that we can help support you all as we approach the release of Train Sim World 6.

Q: Is Caltrain Content returning to TSW?

Yes! Within the first month after Train Sim World 6 launches, we’ll release unbranded versions of the following add-ons. If you already own the Caltrain-branded versions, you’ll be able to download the unbranded versions for free on the same platform and account.

  • Peninsular Corridor: San Francisco – San Jose

  • MP36PH-3C Baby Bullet

  • MP15DC Diesel Switcher

Q: Will there be Regional Bundles this year?

For TSW6's launch, we won't have the Regional bundles we've created for past TSW titles, simply because the Free Starter Pack now offers an easier method to claim these bundles, and it helps us simplify our store pages by reducing the volume of options available to players.

After the full launch on September 30th, you can gain access to TSW6 by claiming the Free Starter Pack, and then purchase any of the three core routes/deluxe locos as separate add-ons, which should offer you the same outcome as our regional bundles would, and hopefully make it an easier experience to understand.

Please see our Purchasing TSW6 FAQs for more store-related questions & answers.

Q: What is compatible with Train Sim World 6 on the Epic Games Store?

Regretfully, we will not be able to make all Epic Games compatible content add-ons available for players upon release. The Epic Games Store will only support a curated selection of the most played compatible content. Therefore, you may not be able to access everything you purchased in previous games. However, access to any content you have already purchased will remain in the game you purchased it for.

View the list of compatible content for the Epic Games Store .

We appreciate this will be frustrating for Epic players, and at present, we can’t provide a timeframe for when this content might be available on TSW6 – if at all. Please assume, for the purposes of where we are right now, the list as it stands is what will be available. We are working closely with Epic and our teams to support the best experience for players on this platform, and will let you know when we have anything new to report.

Q: Can you tell us more about the TSW6 Core Features?

We've seen lots of questions from across the community about how the new core features are implemented, and how they will interact with previous TSW compatible content.

Find a full breakdown of our answers in the Core Feature FAQs.

Enlisted - [CM] Ungorisz

Commanders! This time, we're kicking off preparations for the upcoming major update with pre-orders for unique versions of well-known vehicles featuring additional decorators. The "Heavy Assault" bundle includes two premium squads with BR IV tanks, the Soviet IS-1 and the German Tiger H1 with additional camo netting and track armor that will help you in both ambushes and direct confrontations.

IS-1 ('45) (USSR, BR IV)
A Soviet heavy tank manufactured from late 1943 to early 1944, designed as a response to the German Tiger.

The IS-1 is armed with an 85 mm D-5T cannon - hence its original designation IS-85 - and a 7.62 mm DT machine gun. Its crew consists of four tankers.

It comes with additional track armor that protects the most vulnerable parts on the sides of the turret and the lower front plate, as well as camo netting on the front, sides and gun barrel.

Tiger West (Germany, BR IV)
A German heavy tank, renowned for its superior armor and incredible firepower compared to other tanks of its time.

It is fitted with the deadly 88 mm KwK36 cannon and a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun. Its crew consists of five tankers.

The tank is covered with an extensive camo net that adapts to the color of the underlying camouflage. In addition, there’s extra track armor on the front plate and the roof of the turret, plus the mortars on the hull, which could get in the way of the cannon, have been removed.

Pre-order bundle

Purchase the "Heavy Assault" bundle before the major update is released to receive exclusive pre-order bonuses: two nickname decorators.

If you're playing Enlisted on console, you can get these bonuses by purchasing the "Heavy Assault" bundle within 14 days of the update’s release.

Pre-order bonus: “T-34 turret” nickname decorator and “Tiger turret” nickname decorator.

GO TO THE STORE!

See you on the battlefield, Commanders! May the new vehicles bring you many glorious victories!

Hello, everyone.

Tokatonton: One-Armed Blacksmith's Steam page surpassed 1,000+ wishlists within 24 hours of opening and is still climbing. We won't forget the love you've shown and will work hard on development.

While a short post can't fully express our gratitude, we're working hard to prepare a short demo to showcase at this year's Tokyo Game Show. We hope to meet you in person soon as well.

Thank you!

shapez 2 - gamedrivenl

Hey everyone!

Alice here again for this little status update whilst the rest of the team are still recovering from Gamescom and working hard on 1.0. Let’s jump right in :)

Gamescom recap

As mentioned in our last devlog and across socials, the tobspr team was at Gamescom last weekend. They manned the stand in the Indie Arena Booth, where so many of you visited and had a go at shapez 2. It was a massive motivation boost to hear your positive comments and compliments about the game, as well as getting some much-appreciated feedback on where we can improve.

You also seemed to love the merch we had to give away (you could have at least left some for me…). We had 500 stickers, 300 pins, and 200 keychains and you guys snapped them all up like they were going out of fashion. So, one of our biggest learnings for next year is to triple the amount of merch we have on offer…

Also, people LOVED the magnets. Stay tuned, because although these aren’t available to order yet, they will be soon! We've now got a newsletter you can sign up for below, where we'll be keeping you updated when the magnets are ready. We expect them to sell out fast, given the interest you guys have shown so far.

shapez 2 in orchestra!

I teased this in the last devlog (just couldn’t hold my excitement), but we were waiting on the HQ video to share it fully with you.

A few weeks ago, something wild happened: shapez 2 was performed by a full symphony orchestra!

We teamed up with Dyson Sphere Program for their Cosmic Harmony of Light and Strings over at the Jaguar Shanghai Symphony Hall. The fact a whole live orchestra learned and played one of our OST tracks still blows my mind. It’s one thing to hear a cool piece of music in game (thanks to Peppsen for putting it together), it’s another level to hear it with live instruments in a concert hall with an audience.

Check it out here:

1.0 status update

Of course, the team is still hard at work on the 1.0 update. Here are some updates for you.

New game mode

One of the main, most exciting things we’re bringing to 1.0 is the new game mode (currently called ‘Factory Mode’). Basically, it focuses on building huge, permanent factories, in contrast to the current mode where the build > demolish > rebuild mechanic takes precedent. This is something that’s been requested the most above all else, and we’re super excited about what we’ve got so far. It’s progressing well, but there’s still a lot to be done. We hope to get some beta builds out soon for early testing.

As a little teaser, here’s some WIP footage of the rocket animations (pls don’t tell Max I’ve shared this):

Modding support

We’ve mentioned this previously, but ICYMI: 1.0 will have modding support! After gathering feedback from our community, mods will use the Steam workshop. If everything goes to plan, we’re hoping we can do some sort of closed beta around October.

We’re considering holding a modding contest with prizes up for grabs - let us know if this is something you’d be interested in.

Achievements

Taking in your feedback on achievements (as well as a pretty rigorous in-house approval process), we’ve got a decent shortlist and we’re making good progress with the technical implementation.

Release date

Now for a bit of disappointing news I’m afraid. I know we’ve said previously that we aimed to release 1.0 in November this year, but that’s looking more and more unlikely. We want to make a game that’s worth the 1.0 label, and we just don’t feel it’s up to par yet. Especially with the new game mode - this has to be worth the wait.

Whilst we can’t give a definitive date yet, we’re now aiming for somewhere around early April 2026. Of course we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading, and I’ll catch ya in the next one.
