Death Road to Canada - Rocketcat Games

This is likely the last update before launch! Thanks for all your testing!

I'm going to post our future update plans at the launch for this update, along with a big announcement.

TO ACCESS THE TESTING BRANCH:

  1. Right Click "Death Road to Canada" in your Steam Library

  2. Go to Properties

  3. Click on the Betas tab on the left of the Properties window

  4. Click on the dropdown in the top right, and change the Beta Participation branch from "None" to "beta - TESTBRANCH"

Current List of Changes:
  • Bugfix for the Duck Hunter, now its shots should properly shrapnel through everything

  • New art for all the new weapons, including Honcho's dagger.

Previous Changes this Update:
  • WE'RE BACK AGAIN

  • Special Gimmick Weapons Trader, who can sell 3 different weapons with unique mechanics, all involving RELOADS:

    • DUCK HUNTER: A shotgun with short range, but shooting zombies has shrapnel ricochet everywhere. Additionally, reloads a shell at a time, and fires them faster as long as you don't run out completely.

    • DOLT BIG IRON: A pistol that fires six shots, extremely fast if you hold ATTACK down. It then takes awhile to reload. You also fire much slower if you do careful attacks, so make sure to GO NUTS.

    • FLIP RIFLE: A strong rifle that fires MUCH FASTER if you fire it immediately after it reloads. Use the firing indicator over your head to help you figure out the timing.

  • 3 New Special Recruits that you can find in trader camps. They all cost 15 food:

    • VAN SMELT: A big game hunter whose rifle has both a headshot mechanic, and a distance bonus mechanic. Go for the LONG SHOTS and BIG HEADSHOT COMBOS. Past 20 or 30 headshots, long distance shots will explode for noticeable AOE damage.

    • HONCHO: A gunslinger who can dual wield ranged weapons, for double the carnage. He also has a +2 bonus to max shooting, and a no-drop dagger, for when you invariably run out of ammo completely.

    • POOL CHAMP: A pool player. The bar sport. He has a pool cue that is UNBREAKABLE, which isn't that impressive as it was in my head now that I've typed it. You can also TIPPER HIT zombies at the very edge of your melee distance, for a bonus.

  • A new TEST NEW STUFF option at the start of each game, that will give you easy access to all of the above.

  • FOR MODDERS

    • Trying out a new way to organize update files, so that they're more self-contained again. This should cause less problems for mods in the future.

Update Content
Just now, we made some updates to the game.
The content of this gameplay update is:
  • Now when the game is using a lower resolution display (such as windowed, or running on SteamDeck), the font of the F1 tutorial page on the right will be enlarged so that players can read it more completely.
  • The F1 tutorial page can be scrolled by mouse wheel, and for gamepads, it is by moving the right joystick up and down.

  • Fixed a visual display bug that caused some models to have jagged edges in certain situations.

Mafia: The Old Country - Official Mafia Team

Hello Mafiosos,

We know the family runs on loyalty and trust - and we’ve seen so many great conversations about Mafia: The Old Country. With the launch coming up on August 8th, we wanted to take a moment to answer some of the most common questions we’ve noticed from the community!

Is Mafia: The Old Country an open world game?

No, Mafia: The Old Country is not an open-world game. Enzo’s story unfolds in a structured, cinematic way, rather than choosing mission orders across a sandbox map. If you’re a longtime fan of the franchise, Mafia: The Old Country is structured similarly to Mafia and Mafia II, meaning that there will still be moments when players can leisurely take in the sights and sounds of early 1900's Sicily, and maybe even discover a few collectibles on the way.

Why did you choose to create a linear story game?
To quote Nick Baynes, President of Hangar 13, who shared this during the developer panel at PAX East: “With this title, we drew a lot of inspiration from the structure of Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II—particularly how their focused, linear storytelling resonated with players.” Our goal with Mafia: The Old Country is to deliver that same kind of narrative experience that feels distinctly Mafia, while introducing a brand-new story and setting.

With Mafia: The Old Country, we want you to feel like you’re playing through a classic mob movie. Your journey throughout the game follows Enzo’s descent into the dark criminal underworld of 1900s Sicily, with each tightly paced mission and cutscene conveying the weight of a gritty gangster drama. We can't wait for you to experience all the carefully crafted moments that tell Enzo's story.

What inspired the combat mechanics and design in Mafia: The Old Country?
Our vision for combat was to immerse players deeply in the brutal, often desperate reality of the criminal underworld in 1900s Sicily. This isn’t an era of advanced weaponry or easy brawls—it’s a time where every confrontation has weight, and survival often comes down to your will to live. The firearms of the early 1900s, for instance, are less forgiving than their modern counterparts. They demand a more deliberate use of cover, careful resource management, and knowing how to make every single shot count.

Knife fights are at the heart of combat in Mafia: The Old Country. In an era when many didn’t have easy access to guns, disputes were often settled the traditional way: with a blade. In 1900s Sicily, fights were personal, up close, and vicious; that historical reality shaped how we designed our combat system.

Do I need to play the previous Mafia games to understand Mafia: The Old Country? No. Mafia: The Old Country is something of an origin story for the Mafia series, plunging you into the turn-of-the-century Sicilian underworld where it all began. It's a brand-new story with new characters; a standalone narrative designed to enrich you in the origins of organized crime.

Whether you’re new to the series or have been with us for a long time, you’ll be able to experience Enzo's storyline from a fresh perspective. No prior knowledge is needed to navigate Enzo’s world. However, if you've experienced the sagas of Tommy, Vito, and Lincoln, you might just catch a few subtle nods to the wider timeline of Mafia. What will those nods be? You’ll have to play through the Mafia franchise to find out.

What makes Enzo a unique protagonist compared to Vito, Lincoln, and Tommy?

Tommy Angelo, Vito Scaletta, and Lincoln Clay are all men who were irrevocably shaped by American cities while navigating different eras of organized crime in the United States. Each of our protagonists in the Mafia franchise found their way into organized crime through a different dark path. Lincoln Clay, for example, was fueled by an all-consuming need for revenge, while Vito Scarletta was enticed by the promise of wealth and power. When we forged Enzo Favara’s story for Mafia: The Old Country, we returned to the birthplace of the Mafia to explore a motivation that is far more fundamental: Freedom.

Enzo’s journey begins not with a choice, but with a primal fight for survival. Having been sold into the brutal forced labor of the Sicilian sulfur mines as a boy, he endured a stolen childhood until a path opened to salvation. To him, the path into the Torrisi crime family doesn't represent greed or vengeance; it offers the one thing he's never had—a chance to shape his own destiny. The sacrifices he'll face, and the kind of honor he might find or forfeit, will be uniquely his own, born from an entirely new struggle far removed from the motivations of our previous protagonists.

Will there be an "Online" mode or a Multiplayer mode?
Mafia: The Old Country is focused on delivering a cinematic, single-player story experience. At this time, there are no plans for multiplayer or online modes.

Will the game have DLC?

For those who want to descend into Sicily's criminal underworld in style, the Deluxe Edition offers a variety of bonus items for your collection. As for Story DLC, we are currently focused on making Mafia: The Old Country a complete and gripping narrative experience from start to finish, one that feels like a full, satisfying saga on its own. That said, we're always listening to what resonates with you, looking toward your thoughts and suggestions for what you’d love to see in the world of Mafia.

How is it similar/different to other games in the genre?

Every Mafia title is about becoming a gangster within distinct periods of organized crime. It’s a focus that carves its own path in the narrative genre. With Mafia: The Old Country, we continue that tradition and game direction, and we curated a story where you play through the most foundational period of all: 1900s Sicily, the birthplace of organized crime itself. Playing Mafia: The Old Country is like playing through a classic mob movie, featuring high-stakes chases, brutal gunplay and knifeplay, tense life-or-death situations, and more. We're immersing you not only in a setting of historical authenticity, but also in a compelling story about loyalty, betrayal, and sacrifice.

What is the purpose/reason behind burning the Mary card?

The burning Saint card is inspired by an initiation ritual, believed to have been used by the Sicilian Mafia. The burning of a holy image—often of the Virgin Mary—was a way to pledge an oath of loyalty. This act symbolized cutting ties with one’s old life and making a full commitment to the Mafia. It also served as a warning that breaking the oath would come with serious consequences. We recreated this ritual during Enzo’s initiation as a nod to that history and to highlight the weight of the choice he’s making.

Who is making a return?

During our live Developer Panel at PAX East, Game Director Alex Cox hinted that four characters might appear in the gameplay of Mafia: The Old Country. While we can’t disclose any specifics, be sure to let us know down below who you think they are!

Will you show us more gameplay footage before launch?Yes, there will be more opportunities to get a glimpse of Mafia: The Old Country’s gameplay as we approach launch! To stay up to date on the development of Mafia: The Old Country, make sure to follow our social channels for the latest updates.

We'll share more about Mafia: The Old Country in the lead-up to launch on August 8, so be sure to stay tuned. The loyalty you've shown the Mafia legacy is not taken lightly, and we appreciate you joining us on this journey.

We've poured our hearts and souls into crafting an experience that honors the franchise while carving out Mafia: The Old Country's own path. We truly cannot wait for all of you to experience it.

Thank you, and remember: Family Takes Sacrifice.

ASYLUM - CordesLLC

Well, well, well, look at this. You thought we forgot about updates, but nooooo... All of us were still working hard to put ASYLUM in pristine shape!

This is a sizable changelist. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's the sum of the parts what matter this time around. There's got to be something you were looking for. All the reports you sent have been taken into account and addressed. We're very close to tackling pretty much all (yes, ALL) of them!

The update today is particularly noteworthy because it marks the last of our localization tweaks. All 11 languages should be in top shape now. However, please do let us know if you bump into any other inconsistencies or typos.

Also, lots of people have been writing to say how much they enjoyed the game. Thank you very, very much for those kind words! There's still a good deal of discussion about the story and conclusion, so be sure to check out the Steam forums for a number of tips in that long thread. Fans are still discovering nuances and different interpretations. It's not all about cosmic horror, y'know.

  • New: Language fixes across the board! So many of them it boggles the mind! As promised, we revised all 10 localizations besides English and everything should be in good shape now. If you do spot more stuff that needs our attention, please let us know.

  • New: When using a gamepad, the ubiquitous B button now turns back menu pages and puts it down when you're back at the index. This might seem like a minor thing, but it's a pretty cool usability improvement for those of you who check your records often.

  • Fix: No more oversized hand cursors. Some of you were experiencing large hands under certain resolutions. We thought you liked big hands, but clearly we were mistaken. For the small group that enjoyed them (🙋), the big hands shall be dearly missed.

  • Fix: Better handling of available resolutions for you to choose from, now ordered properly in the list too. Those of you who love fiddling with our artistic vision will have a great time now. Weird resolutions begone.

  • Fix: Some text pop-ups in the menu, especially for perusing achievements on smaller screens, should now look and behave properly.

  • Fix: In fact, the whole menu should be more consistent now, no more funny stuff. Top notch UX. Ye, we use fancy words to make the changelist more impressive. But if you feel like the menu is still acting up, let us know and we'll sack the menu.

  • Fix: Bruno no longer says a bunch incorrect lines depending on when you speak with him. Naughty Bruno, he clearly needs a raise.

  • Fix: Also, fixed some occasional weird animations with Bruno. After all this time, the guy deserved some extra love.

  • Fix: More suitable first time settings when installing the game on the Steam Deck. Now when you're done fishing rare species in Cast n Chill you can come back to our cozy ASYLUM.

  • Fix: Volume levels should work correctly now. The menu will honor your settings. Or should. Heck, maybe the menu needs a raise too.

  • Fix: Some of you experienced an everlasting sound of water flowing, even after restoring saved games. But it's not you, that was a bug after all. Relax, you can leave the asylum.

  • Fix: Proper keyring sounds! The keyring you're carrying should make noises only when you have it in your inventory. Again, it wasn't you. That is, unless you're hearing strange noises when you quit the game. If that happens, please come back to the asylum.

  • Fix: The subcategory labels in the Library should make sense now. No, that wasn't a hidden clue. Please stop looking for hidden clues.

  • Fix: There was incorrect feedback when using the valve for the last time. It's no longer incorrect now. You could say it's... correct.

  • Fix: Potential crash when advancing to 3AM related to achievements and a poor DLL that for once wasn't our fault.

  • Fix: Menu no longer closes automatically when deleting a saved game. Apparently some of you hated this. We kind of enjoy annoying you, but in the end we're making a product under the established rules of capitalism and happy customers are fundamental for the vicious system to thrive.

  • Fix: There was a wrong feedback while looking at certain windows in the Chapel after a certain series of events transpired. Last time we checked they're no longer wrong.

  • Fix: There was yet another wrong feedback when manipulating certain items in the Museum. According to our intelligence reports, they're no longer wrong.

  • Fix: Similarly, solving a puzzle involving the Chapel should be less frustrating now. Again, happy customers, etc. etc.

  • Fix: Better interaction with reels in the Therapy Room, automatizing some of the process in case you want to watch those absorbing tapes over and over again.

  • Fix: Some texts in Russian were being cut off because of an improved font. Not anymore!

  • Mac: Better handling of fullscreen for you fans of Mac. This should be the very last specific Mac bug we have in our queue, unless something else comes up. Let us know!

  • Build string: version 1.2.3044 (test with CTRL + V).

Stranded in Space - Wildman Dev

Hello there. Hope everyone is doing well. It's been a while, hasn't it? Let's get right into it.

Progress on Day 20 is coming along nicely; I estimate the update is around 80-85% complete now.

There's not too much left: For rendering, I've got the Elysium scenes, and two normal scenes to finish. For writing, I've got some laptop stuff, and several toward-the-end-of-the-day scenes left to complete.

The update itself is huge, which has become the standard since around Day 13. There are well over 20 scenes within Day 20, many of which are based off previously made choices. Within all of this, there are several very important scenes to the Stranded in Space story.

Given the importance of Day 20, I'm trying not to feel rushed with this update, though I know it's taken the longest of any update in the game's history, which I am not happy about in the slightest.

With all of that said, the release month for Day 20 on Steam is September. I'll be able to provide the exact window as I get closer to finishing the remaining work.
To the fans of Stranded in Space on Steam, I genuinely appreciate the interest in the progress of the game. I see your comments, reviews, and general excitement—the enthusiasm motivates me and keeps me working hard.

Day 20 is not so far away.
