Hack, Slash, Loot - Oddball
The first major update in 8 years is finally here. This update features some seismic changes to the internals of the game, the biggest of which is the 64 bit changeover that Linux users have already been enjoying are now available to Windows and MacOSX users. The MacOSX version is also completely gatekeeper Catalina compliant.

Don't fret though, not all the changes are internal. We also have new characters, new enemies, new items, new artifacts, new features, a new achievement, and even an entirely new quest for you to get your teeth into. There are also plenty of quality of life improvements, and I have brought a lot of the features from the mobile version over to the desktop. The Steam version is now the definitive version of Hack, Slash, Loot.

Sadly there have been casualties and the 32 bit version is now considered deprecated and will not receive further updates. I'm sure you can appreciate that this is a major change and there may be a few teething problems so please bear with us. A full list of changes/fixes/additions can be found bellow.

Main additions
  • New quest - The Isle of Weeping Woods quest added. Originally designed for the initial release it was mothballed due to time restraints. Well it's back now!
  • 12 new characters - Originally released as a dlc for users of the old forum they are now part of the main game. Some are joke characters and some are game breaking so use them wisely.
  • 7 new artifacts - These include the 3 from the mobile version and 4 completely new artifacts. Happy hunting.
  • Guldar artifact set - If you have collected the complete set of Guldar artifacts you can now select the whole set as your starting artifact/s.
  • Health restores when entering new level - This was a feature added to the mobile version to encourage players to leave the level when their health is low. It worked well and so is now in the desktop version too.
  • Miss bonus now visible - When a character misses they gain a bonus to attacks until they hit. The bonus stacks for each miss until they hit. This has always been a hidden feature of the game. It is now an official feature and visible in the log and in attack previews.
  • True ultimate warrior trophy - The ultimate warrior trophy was supposed to need all stats to be over the threshold during one quest, but it was broken. Sadly it was broken for too long before I noticed so I left it how it was. Enter true ultimate warrior, the way it should have been. I hope.
  • Global stats - The global turns/kills/deaths/quests are now tracked through Steam. This will take a while to completely sync up.
  • Quest difficulty - Hovering the mouse over the quest name in the menu will show its difficulty. The difficulty also shows in the log when starting a quest.
  • Artifact hint text - Hovering the mouse over artifact icons in the menu now shows their stats.
  • Dmg/res/vuln type hint text - This fixes the omission of the stat from the character preview when hovering the mouse over the character names/icons.
  • New level alternative music - There is now a chance of getting an alternative track to play when entering a new level.
Internal changes
  • 64 bit compile - The game is now rewritten for 64 bit machines.
  • New audio system - This change was made for the Linux build and is now live for all versions.
  • New Steam integration - The Steam integration has now been rewritten. This allows Linux users to join the Steam fun and also some other additions such as global stat tracking, syncing local stats, etc.
  • Changed artifact storage
  • Fixed image warnings(colour format)
  • Added chained feature actions
  • Allow non-equipped special items
  • Fixed fullscreen mouse coords on MacOSX

Hack, Slash, Loot - Oddball
I have added a 64 bit Linux version of Hack, Slash, Loot to Steam. This should fix the audio issues 64 bit users were experiencing.

IMPORTANT: You'll need to delete the ~/.HackSlashLoot/Data/linuxaudio.txt file in order for the game to rescan for audio drivers.

Head over to the discussion boards if you have any issues. It's tested on Ubuntu and SteamOS, but obviously there are many more flavours of Linux and I couldn't test them all.

Hack, Slash, Loot - Oddball
I have added the Linux version of Hack, Slash, Loot to Steam. It is missing the Steam specific features, most notably Achievements, but in all other ways it is the same as the Window and Mac OS X versions.
