A tax reform proposal unveiled this week suggests giving research and development tax credits for companies, but also says the R&D credit should be withheld from makers of violent video games. Like many we've seen at state levels, the "Tax Reform Act of 2014" proposed by the House Ways and Means Committee doesn't specify what criteria it will use to determine violence in games.

Where do Affordable Space Adventures come from? Well, little Timmy, when Knytt creator Nifflas and Spin the Bottle dev KnapNok like each other very much, they get together and make an exploration game controlled by a heads-down display on the Wii U touchscreen. As you might expect with such a special game-baby, it'll probably stay living on Wii U.

The Academy Awards are this weekend. You might recognize it as the award show that always runs about two hours too long and makes you wonder why you're bothering to watch one of the world's most boring award show. I can't imagine Ellen DeGeneres is about to change that, either, so I guess this weekend is a prime opportunity to catch up with your PC games. The nominees for Best Bundles are Amazon for its Rockstar sale, GameFly Digital for its free Spec Ops: The Line with purchase of already-discounted 2K Games titles, Green Man Gaming for its 2K Essentials Bundle, and Humble for their Indie Bundle. And the nominees for Best Publisher Sale are Amazon for Rockstar, GameFly Digital for 2K, Gamestop for Sega, and Humble for Deep Silver. Check out the full list of deals after the break.

The fallen Queen of the Vaal has arrived to take her bloody revenge in the upcoming Sacrifice of the Vaal mini-expansion for Path of Exile. While some MMO expansions will focus on adding to the endgame scenario, Grinding Gear Games will spread out the content throughout the entire game, for both veterans and newcomers alike. The story is that the Queen Atziri of the long-dead Vaal civilization has risen again and is bringing corruption to the Wraeclast continent. The exiled must bring the corruption under control, while also sending Atziri back to the underworld from whence she came. As one might imagine, Wraeclast has become an even more dangerous place.

PopCap's odd Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare launched on Xbox One this week. The odd shooter spinoff of PopCap's original strategy IP was initially thought to be a joke, but it's been a resounding success so far. The team that made the game is now being dubbed "PopCap HD," and they're working on a brand new game.

Naughty Dog isn't quite done with The Last of Us yet. While they recently shipped Left Behind, there's still one more piece of DLC coming to Season Pass holders. As expected, the next update will add new maps, new weapons, and new skills to the online multiplayer mode. However, there's one bit of unexpected campaign content as well: a new difficulty.
