Rising Storm is the next game in the award-winning Red Orchestra franchise. Rising Storm goes to the Pacific Theater, adding more features, new levels, new weapons and new factions. The game will allow the player to fight across iconic locations from the famous island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945, as the US Army and Marine Corps fight it out with the Imperial Japanese army and Special Naval Landing Forces. Players will experience beach assaults, jungle fighting, close quarters night fighting and more across Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Saipan, among other iconic battles. The player is able to take the part of either side – American or Japanese – battling it out online in multiplayer on up to 64-player servers.

You can play as infantry, using a wide range of infantry weapons, or crew one of the many armored combat vehicles available in the game, from half-tracks to the most famous German and Soviet heavy tanks. Engage the enemy with everything in your arsenal, from your bayonet at close quarters up to the massive 122mm cannon on the Soviet IS-2. And if that isn't enough, find an officer and a radio to call in thunderous artillery strikes to shake the enemy loose.

Today Tripwire Interactive announces the addition of Steam Workshop support for Red Orchestra 2, making it easy to download or share custom maps and mods for your game.

While there isn't much available in the Workshop just yet, expect to see some top-notch maps soon, as mappers compete in Tripwire Interactive's “Counterattack” Custom Map Making Competition, on now. With over $35,000-worth of prizes, including a custom PC for the Grand Prize winner, we're sure to see some incredible maps show up. Information on the contest can be found here.

If you're interested in trying your hand at modding, or at participating in the mapping contest, the team at Tripwire has put together a handy wiki with documentation for getting started with the RO2 editor and publishing to the Workshop. The Red Orchestra 2 SDK is free for anyone that owns Red Orchestra 2, and can be found in the 'tools' section of your Steam library.
