Edge of Space - LadyAijou
Hey ArkCoNauts!

We are thrilled to announce that you can now opt in to the new multiplayer first look, through a beta branch build on Steam!! This is to allow the players to help us track down the worst of the bugs, and be sure we have a good smooth build before we fully integrate it with the main build. Be aware, this build will be more buggy and will have things still feeling somewhat “under construction.” as we finish rounding it out. That being said, we’re excited to hear all of the feedback from the community as you get your first taste of the multiplayer experience!

Hey ArkCoNauts!

The last couple of newsletters have been all about the multiplayer, and for good reason: it’s one of the most anticipated aspects of Edge of Space and we are pleased to announce that it is coming in FEBRUARY! That’s right, the wait will soon be over. An exact date is coming soon, but get your friends in the game with this limited time 20% discount promotion that is currently running through our Facebook page:

But today, we’re going to shift gears and let you in on what else is coming in the next patch. It’s huge, a game changer, and represents the most comprehensive overhaul of the gameplay since the Rebirth patch last year. We’re sure plenty of folks have been wondering if this long, arduous wait was just for multiplayer alone. Rest assured, that isn’t the case at all.

Tutorials! Real, in-depth, in-game, hands-on tutorials that teach you the game as you play. The tutorial placeholders in the current build will be replaced with a series of tutorial missions, each of which takes you through different gameplay skills. Tutorials will cover everything from jetpacking to crafting, mining to command centers, and so much more. Power upgrade platforms will become a bonus to your character, taking you beyond the basics to even more advantageous gear. However, they will no longer be critical to the game; meaning if you can’t find them, you aren’t failing to progress.

On the heels of tutorials come many other new features, play mechanics, and gameplay content, taking Edge of Space from the core foundation of the game concept, to a living gaming experience. Players will be introduced to many new things, including placeables, foundries, and other surprises that we won’t spoil for you just yet!

Lastly, a couple massive pieces of content will be implemented in this patch that has got us so excited! It's not quite ready to share just yet but any fans of the genre are sure to enjoy it. Any guesses out there?

This is an exciting time for us as we continue to plow through the work for this patch, and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come together very soon. Stay awesome, and we’ll see you next time for ArkCo news!

Hope everyone is surviving the longer time between patches, we know the waiting is hard! Rest assured, the game is progressing very well, and we’re continuing to integrate multiplayer to bring it all together perfectly. We now have alternate worlds system functional as well as the power grid, two of the more complicated features in EOS. Most of the work ahead from here is just completing the long list of things that have to be connected to multiplayer, and then moving on to stress testing. We’re very happy with the steady progress we’re making, and we’ll continue to keep you guys in the loop as we move forward.

While Paul plugs away at that, Jake is busy bringing more of ArkCo’s creepy critters to life and getting them ready to make an appearance in game. We’re looking forward to seeing the world of Edge of Space brimming with more life, even if it IS deadly!

On the community side, there is a lot of excitement coming as we anticipate multiplayer, and we’re going to have plenty of fun with that! If you and any of your friends have been waiting to get into the game now is the time! Our Divisions members are scrambling to decode the messages they’re receiving, hinting at an upcoming mission for them. We’re happy to see more of our users jumping in to find out what it’s all about. There is most definitely a purpose to the “transmissions!” If you’re not in a Division yet, stop by the forums and get in on the fun.

  • Swapping out current light system with a slightly simplier one temporarly. This is to solve an issue were a number of users would experience inconsistant but frequent freezes while playing the game.
We are moving to full focus on multiplayer and will return and focus on solving this issue after, but we wanted to remove the crash
  • Optimization in the rendery loop
  • Added First Achievment
  • Memory Leaked Plugged

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, we just wanted to throw out a quick patch to resolve some of the issues players have been experiencing, as well as turn the logging all the way up to help provide more information on other issues currently out there.

  • Fixed a freeze that was caused by formation growth getting into a bad state. Hopefully this will resolve some of the freezing issues people are experiencing.
  • Ensuing Growth events dont happen at the same frame, will reduce studders.
  • Cranked up the logging in the release build, in an effort to better debug issues players are currently experiencing.
  • Disabled the telnet console (it was used for debugging) and could cause performance issues as well as crashes in the right configurations.

Happy Holidays everyone!
