Daredevil Design Update

Daredevil's Spirit has been replaced with a new resource - Stamina.

STAMINA

To go along with the Daredevil Event, this patch brings with it a design update for Daredevil himself!

Stamina is similar in mechanics to Power Cosmic or Solar Energy in that it always regenerates, but has a higher regeneration rate. It will automatically regenerate to full within a few seconds of being empty, so there's little to no downtime when playing Daredevil.

Stamina has no "single target spender", and his basics are tuned with less of a penalty compared to most. Stamina is strictly spent on rotational powers, Finishers, or area clearing abilities that may not be tied into the Combo point system. Daredevil's basics also quickly help Stamina to restore back to full (even faster than it's already quick regeneration rate).

MARTIAL ARTS

Staff Strike and Nunchuck Beatdown have received new animations. These two, along with Assault and Battery, have also received new affixes to make them better suited at filling particular roles.

Apprehend now generates 2 Combo Points, making it similar to Sliding Strike - a cooldown-based Combo Point generator that generates them faster than the basics. Sliding Strike and Devil's Due move into the Martial Arts tree to solidify the tree as "things that generate Combo Points".

Apprehend and Sliding Strike Area of Effect size increased. Both powers now have an 8 second cooldown.

As mentioned above, Stamina is structured to allow for 'basic' attacks to be the core single target powers, and as such, Triple Strike has been removed from Daredevil. The long animation for this power has historically been a problem in regards to Daredevil's ability to evade attacks, so sticking to his faster basic animations will allow him to cancel out of a combo quicker.

FIGHTING FOCUS

Radar Sense, Devil of Hell's Kitchen, Relentless Justice, Enter the Void, and Born Again have all been compressed into two passive/active powers.

Since most of the powers in Fighting Focus have been compressed, we needed to redefine what existed in the tree. Fighting Focus is now "all powers that do not gain or spend Combo Points", including Action Roll, Rebounding Club, Club Sweep, and two new powers.

Rebounding Club now holds up to 2 charges and applies Vulnerability.

Heroic Leap is now a level 1 power and does not scale with power points.

Club Sweep Area of Effect size increased.

NEW - Cable Swing - Daredevil has gained a new Travel power, using the grappling hook within his batons to swing around. This power has functionally replaced Swinging Assault, as it is a more reasonable and realistic manner of how Daredevil would get around an area with differences in elevation.

NEW - Relentless Justice - Stealing the name from a former passive, this new mobile area clearing power has been added to Daredevil. While channeling, Matt wades through enemies while skillfully manipulating nunchucks in a constant flow.

The new Radar Sense is located in the Fighting Focus tree, and contains all defensive affixes. The 'ping' that occurs when Combo Points are full no longer applies normal vulnerability, but instead causes the next Finisher or Tornado Kick to deal massive damage against that target. The power can also be activated to cleanse and become immune to crowd control. Radar Sense's specializations change up Daredevil's playstyle regarding combo points:

Combo Fighter - Specialization if you like Daredevil's current rotation and playstyle as-is. Adds a %-based damage bonus to Finishers, and a %-based damage bonus to Tornado Kick.

Drawn-Out Brawl - Specialization if you like the concept of combo points, but find the rate of gain too quick to manage. Makes gaining combo points slower, but massively increases the damage dealt by Finishers if they are used at maximum combo points. Choose this specialization if you want to see Finishers deal massive damage in exchange for using them a bit less frequently.

Street Fighter - Specialization if you do not like combo points and would prefer a more "standard" rotation. Combo Points are removed entirely, and finishers become standard cooldown layers. All finishers are treated as though you had 5 combo points in this specialization. Choose this if you were not a fan of Combo Points and would prefer to manage cooldowns instead.

ACROBATIC PROWESS

As with the other trees, we wanted to take this opportunity to reorganize his powers in a way that makes more sense to players seeing Daredevil for the first time. Acrobatic Prowess now contains all Finishers, as well as the "Finisher Finisher", Tornado Kick.

The new Devil of Hell's Kitchen is located in the Acrobatic Prowess tree, and contains all offensive affixes located in previous powers. If activated, it consumes combo points to create a buff effect, which is determined by a specialization choice. You can opt to go with the familiar Born Again and consume combo points to heal yourself, or change that to be a defensive or offensive steroid instead.

Jumping Strike now has a higher Critical Hit Chance per combo point spent. In addition to the leaping club-to-the-face animation, the power now has variance and can trigger an alternate animation inspired by Marvel's Daredevil series.

Whirling Club is no longer a channeled power, and has been added to Daredevil's Finisher list. It can still be used with no combo points, but will be more responsive as a single animation power. If you find yourself mostly playing in high area content, Whirling Club may be the Finisher option for you. It's Stamina cost is reduced with each combo point spent. treet Sweeper still remains as another Area finisher, but offers a higher defensive value in its built-in invulnerability state.

Tornado Kick (formerly Spinning Hook Kick) has no Stamina cost in the new world, making it a powerful free damage source, and always delivers a Brutal Strike. This power has also received a new animation inspired by Marvel's Daredevil series.

New Hero: Magik

Magik joins the hero roster of Marvel Heroes 2015!

Queen of Limbo and wielder of the powerful Soulsword, Illyana Rasputin - sister of the X-Man known as Colossus - was born with the mutant power to create portals through time and space. These portals pass through the alternate dimension Otherplace, also known as Limbo, a realm of grotesque demons and dark magic. This link to Otherplace allows her magical abilities to be significantly enhanced whenever she weaves magic arts while in this alternate dimension, but her mastery over magic has grown over time allowing her to cast powerful spells even while here on Earth.

Magik is a Mental damage hero that can cut down her foes with her Soulsword, summon a legion of demons from Limbo to fight by her side, and cast a variety of incantations to destroy her enemies or enhance her own fighting abilities. Particularly potent magic reserves a portion of her unique resource called Command, and this resource can be allocated in a variety of ways to customize Magik’s powers to fit your playstyle.

Illyana is a force to be reckoned with in any dimension, and now she joins the world of Marvel Heroes to stop those that tamper with forces beyond their understanding before it damages the fabric of reality itself!

Defense & Dodge Changes

The defensive systems in Marvel Heroes have been revamped with the goal of making defensive itemization more rewarding, noticeably impacting your survivability when you make the choice to equip a defensive item such as Shield of Perseus.

We’ve created a massive thread with the philosophies behind why the changes were made, a further breakdown of the math behind the system, and a list of all relevant changes to powers and items. That thread can be found HERE. The most important features of this system update are:
  • Enemy damage lowered 40% across all of Marvel Heroes
  • Dodge once again mitigates 100% of damage when you successfully dodge an attack
  • A new stat, “Deflect Rating”, has been introduced. This rating increases your chance to ‘deflect’ an attack, reducing damage by 50%. The affix has replaced Projectile Deflection Chance, but works for all attacks - not just projectiles.
  • All hero defensive passives have been adjusted to include two of the three defensive stats: Defense, Deflect, or Dodge Rating. The two layers a hero has by default also come with a multiplier to those ratings, so further itemizing their core defensive stats will have increased effect. Some heroes have received additional changes to their defensive mechanics, such as heroes with ‘Shield’ effects. For a full list, see the linked thread.
  • As a result of the changes to base defensive passives and the calculations, some players who did not itemize for any survivability may notice their character sheet mitigation listing a lower value. This is expected, as enemy damage was lowered. A lower floor and a higher ceiling means that each defensive item can increase the effectiveness by a higher amount. Overall incoming damage has been reduced, even if your character sheet mitigation is lower than it was prior to the patch.
  • Many items and some Omega nodes have been updated to offer more defensive stats, and more will come with future updates.

NEW HERO: WAR MACHINE

Our 50th playable Hero James Rhodes - A.K.A. War Machine - joins the hero roster of Marvel Heroes 2015!

War Machine is a Physical damage hero with a plethora of melee & range options allowing you to dictate the rules of engagement. NEW TEAM-UP: CARNAGE

Carnage joins the Team-Up roster for Marvel Heroes 2015! Cletus Kasady’s run-in with an alien symbiote during a prison breakout changed his life forever, merging with the symbiote to become the agent of chaos now known as Carnage. Capable of forming the surface of the symbiote into all manner of deadly weapons to satisfy his appetite for destruction, one would be wise to exercise caution, though he is currently willing to work for the side of good… at least for now.

52 REVIEW: CABLE & NEW COSTUME

Cable's design review fleshes him out more and takes greater advantage of his background in the Marvel comics universe. He's no longer just a guy with a gun, but instead has viable ways to play him that take advantage of his psionic abilities and his lesser-known use of a psimitar. For more details about Cable’s Level 52 Review, head over to our Cable Level 52 preview forum post! He's also got a brand new costume just for this occasion, his Marvel NOW! costume is now available.

Ant-Man is Now Playable!
GET SMALL
Just like the new Ant-Man feature film and comics, Marvel Heroes 2015's Ant-Man has a number of powers that allow him to rapidly shrink in size. From tiny uppercuts that knock opponents up to amazingly fast punches and kicks, Ant-Man hits far harder than his tiny size. He also changes dynamically when using his powers, so you get the feel of Ant-Man's rapid size-changing capabilities.

GET STRONG
We spent a long time trying to figure out what to do with Ant-Man's synergies. As a commander of ants we toyed around with stats to do with summoning, but we ultimately came up with an entirely new level 50 synergy that we hope you'll love: +1 Strength. That's right, if you level up Ant-Man to 50 you get +1 Strength for all your heroes if you take his synergy. Tap into the hidden strength of the ant!

GET LEGIONS OF FOLLOWERS
Ant-Man wouldn't be worthy of the name if he didn't have the ability to command his insect legions. To this end players can summon up to 10,000 ants just by fighting, and then "spend" the ants on powers such as "Fistful of Ants," which creates a giant fist of ants and smashes your opponents. One by one they may not be powerful, but under your command these insects really ruin the bad guys' day.

Consolidated Difficulty Modes
The Story section of the game has had difficulty modes consolidated such that players will level from 1 through 60 by completing the story. To make grouping easier, there is no longer the concept of Normal/Heroic/Superheroic difficulties during Story Mode. For questions, visit our FAQ

Odin’s Bounty Returns
Odin's Bounty features an amazing bonus loot game mode rotation. However, instead of bosses having boosted loot, they will now drop Chests of Odin's Bounty. These chests are loot boxes that you can collect and then open later for an epic lootsplosion! Chests of Odin's Bounty have a high chance to contain Runes and Odin Marks, as well as a chance to drop the Mysterious Crimson Box, which contains rare boss-specific artifacts. Odin's Bounty Boosts are back as well and now include an increased jackpot chance! Check out the full rotation schedule.

Vote for the 2nd Unannounced Hero of 2015!
We've got one last unannounced playable Hero left in 2015 and we want you to be a part of the decision! Choose from Green Goblin, Magik, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Kahn), Nick Fury, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), and Wasp! Vote today at our Fan Vote!
