As we promised, update 1.1.0 is here.
Here is the list of changes:

- Fixing bug where permanently unlocked abilities were lost upon quitting the game
- Adding option to invert Y-Axis, both on controller and mouse
- Controller support - we add full controller support for Warlander
- Removed 60 FPS limit - the new limit is 120
- Minor fixes

Hi everyone,

With Warlander's launch, some of you pointed out several issues that were interfering with the game experience.
We are working to resolve them, and we believe that the update will be ready and released on Monday.

Here is the list of changes for version 1.01

- Fixing bug where permaabilities were lost upon quitting the game
- Adding option to invert Y-Axis, both on controller and mouse
- Controller support - we add full controller support for Warlander
- Removed 60 FPS limit - the new limit is 120

After years of handling broken armor, swords without batteries and extra arms, legs or heads, we are almost there.
Only a day stands before you and the path of destruction and slicing of Techno Order’s soldiers and champions.

The Forest is almost awake and with it, the Old God is ready to bestow blessings upon the players of Warlander.
Your journey through the world will be hard and long and enemies will be stronger and more dangerous as you progress.

Fear not, however! Your enemies may have numbers, but their technology is inferior to the powers of nature.
Energy swords may cut through flesh, but the strongest bark will outlive and outlast them in the end.
Their armor may be strong and durable, but it will be covered in rust eventually, claimed by the Forest once again.

Beneath all that equipment, lies the flesh.
The only purpose of the flesh is to sate the Devouring Tree.

So, flex your muscles, do several push ups, stay hydrated and be ready to kill everyone and everything on your way!
Your path to vengeance begins tomorrow - 5 PM GMT / 9 AM PST sharp!

Brave warriors,

The awakening of the Forest is not complete without the Old God speaking to its worshipers and enemies alike.
Last night, in dreams of friends and foes, a cryptic and foreshadowing message appeared.
Its importance may elude Druids and Technos for now, but for you, the message is clear:

Warlander will be released on February 26.

Carve your own path in a procedurally generated world, full of dangers and opportunities alike.
Aim precisely and slice through the flesh of your enemies in a unique take on stamina-based combat. Become stronger and more skillful, either by chopping your way across the battlefield or by using abilities to turn the environment into a deadly weapon.
If you die, you will be returned to life - at the cost of your progress and experience. Your road to vengeance starts again…



The price for the game is set at 15 USD/EUR.

Hello everybody!

Following the months of silence, the Forest comes back to life – slowly, but surely.
Our team spent this time working hard to finish the development of Warlander.
Swords were crafted, trees were planted, enemies were trained and many other amazing things were built and rebuilt left and right.

After all the toil under the keen eyes of our Druid and Techno masters, we are proud to say that the game is nearly there.

We are proud to say that all this hard work paid in another way: there will be no Early Access for Warlander – the game will be released in its completed form, as a full experience.

A bug or two might appear, but that's why we believe that you - dwellers of the Forest and Techno Strongholds– will let us know about it, so we can squash it!

The day of release is coming, but we'll talk about the exact date next Thursday.

Expect to see more and more videos, playthroughs, reviews, and similar activities in the weeks ahead, as we approach the release day.

Our team at Clock Drive Games is hard at work on this blessed day - from fine-tuning the combat and AI of enemies to creating stunning arenas where you can slice and dice and drawing 2D visuals that will help guide you on your path of vengeance. But! We took some time off from our busy schedule to enjoy the spooky festivities with you. After all, even the Clans celebrate All Hallows Eve as a form of ancestral worship…



Pretty village, pretty flames eh? At least the fires dispel the night’s cold and you can toast a marshmallow on ‘em!

Greetings all!

Ever since the announcement of Warlander's genre shift from an action-adventure to a roguelike game, people from our community have been posing a question - what impact has this had on the game’s story? We will explore this topic in this blog post and offer all the answers that we can, without wandering into the spoiler territory, of course.

The original story for Warlander was developed while we envisioned the game as an action-adventure. Stories in these types of games are often linear, featuring plot twists with deep emotional impacts, character and relationship development - all of which make them more akin to an interactive movie. The story itself is presented with a cinematic feel in mind, told through a series of cutscenes, dialogues interspersed with gameplay, and lore notes scattered throughout the game’s world. Warlander was no different in this regard.

Roguelike games run on the basic premise that multiple runs are required to finish the game and this greatly affects the way stories are told in this genre. Often, roguelikes are almost completely devoid of any storytelling except for the barest of contexts (Slay the Spire) or the broadest of plots (FTL or Dead Cells). Recently a roguelike game called Crying Suns has been published, which features a mystery plot as well as the additional exploration of narrative, mostly in the form of world-building. All these have both conditioned and inspired us while planning and recontextualizing the story of Warlander for the game’s new roguelike genre.


Place of healing and contemplation for the tired Bruce

The previous story of Warlander was based on two pillars. The first one was a relationship between Bruce - the protagonist - and Ferguson - a sentient sword. During the course of the game, their relationship developed from an agent and a handler to uneasy allies to friends and comrades in arms. The second pillar is Bruce’s present and future, including all of the reasons he’s fighting for, all of which are closely tied with the fate of his people. This story was envisioned as linear and could not be translated into a genre that is as non-linear as roguelike is, not in any way that would do it justice.

But, we were very hard at work developing the world and characters of Warlander and we want to share it with you. In addition, all of us in the studio believe a game is richer if it offers a context to explore and a plot to experience. Thus, we decided to craft a new story for the roguelike Warlander. Of course, this story features the same protagonist and his sentient sword, but the focus is different. Instead of dealing with the present and the future, the new story deals with Bruce’s past.

We cannot offer much more without any spoilers, but here’s a little tidbit to pique your interest. At the very beginning of the game, Bruce is risen from the dead as a revenant of vengeance. He is an amnesiac, remembering little of his life except for his name and the fact that he is a Clansman. On his road of revenge, Bruce will be able to find fragments of his shattered memory which will help him not only to remember who he is but also to learn all that he has forgotten about his own world. These memory fragments will be delivered as lore notes, written from Bruce’s perspective. We can roughly divide these memories into three categories: about Bruce’s past and the Clan lore and origins, about the Techno Order, their rise to power, beliefs and the tyranny over the Clans, and about the Druids, their beliefs and history. The last category hides a surprise because not all of the knowledge about the Druids originates from Bruce’s mind...


What memory of Bruce's past does this village hold?

The relationship between Bruce and Ferguson is still present in the new version of the story but it is not at the forefront and it serves more to add additional flavor and context to the world. While seeking revenge, Bruce and Ferguson might stumble into certain events or encounter characters or monuments that will trigger a dialogue between the two. These dialogues will offer the players more insight into the world of Warlander and its history.

Of course, there is more to the story and the plot, but talking about that would take us to the spoiler territory. Suffice to say, we are upholding one of the traditions of the roguelike genre and the new story of Warlander holds a great secret for the players to uncover...
